i live in the future (australia). that was last night.

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 17 January 2004 07:05 (twenty years ago) link

Got stuck at work until 7. Escaped, went to Six Arms with friends. Much geek conversation about probabilities and random number generators. Ate fish & chips, made dinner plans for tomorrow, drove a friend back to work, drove home, got an incredibly bad headache. Am now distracting myself on ILX while hoping that the Advil will kick in at some point. I think overall I've had far better Friday nights.

lyra (lyra), Saturday, 17 January 2004 07:18 (twenty years ago) link

Woah what an evening I had. Dyed my hair brick red while drunk (and made a mess of the bathroom). Took a "cold tablet" that had so much fricking pseudoephedrine in it I was still buzzing this morning. Got drunk, went with the boi to a goth club for the first time in stupidy months. I hated the music, but met heaps of friends I hadnt caught up in ages, including one ex-friend who wont talk to me so I collared him and asked him why he still had a problem with me and I think I might have said "you look like youre about to cry" in a rather mean tone, I think he sort of went away thinking I was a moron.

Met a guy Ive known online a while but not met in person and proceeded to call him "hot" while sitting next to my b/f (haha, luckily he not only didnt care but agreed with me). Ive a feeling I was a bit of a hopped up speedy drunk git but hey, I had fun.

We got the same cab driver home as the one who drove us out there, totally by chance. Freaky. Apparently when we got home we sat on the couch, started to watch Futurama and I passed out. I was left on the couch to sleep and I woke up disoriented some hours later, wondering why the hell I was in the loungeroom on my own, heh.

Birrov a lark, really. I now feel incredibly seedy and am eating microwave popcorn and hoping I havent given myself lung cancer from the metric buttload of cigs I smoked.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 17 January 2004 07:29 (twenty years ago) link

I worked until 8:30 and now I have to go to bed so I can go to work tomorrow at 8:30 in the morning to finish some shit for fuckheads. FUCK FRIDAY NIGHT.

I did the same thing I've done for the past couple days: absolutely nothing. Not eating or sleeping well, just kind of sitting around dazed. Lame, I know.

the surface noise (electricsound), Saturday, 17 January 2004 10:14 (twenty years ago) link

I hadn't gone roller skating in several years. It was an interesting experience. One thing I found out that I hadn't been aware of is that -at the rink at least- roller blades are for absolute geeks. The stuff that people could do (even really little kids!) on proper skates though was fucking amazing. I think there were so abnormally many rollerbladers at my hometown rink 'cause of the strong hockey presence in that town. Tonight convinced me that all those people in my home town were fools.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 17 January 2004 10:22 (twenty years ago) link

Like that guy doing the splits on skates up there, people actually did that! And this one guy was like the fucking roller skating king, he'd do this thing where he'd raise up and balance on the front wheels only of his skates while really quickly crossing his feet back and forth. It was like the perfect combination of ballet and crip walking, but on skates.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Saturday, 17 January 2004 10:23 (twenty years ago) link

Had some Indian food for dinner, went shopping for the week ahead, came back home and detoxed from the week. This weekend could be full with social things or could just be empty, but in under an hour I'm off to my regular Saturday morning gardening thing so I'm happy there.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 17 January 2004 15:43 (twenty years ago) link

"got into an argument with simon trife over labia" - can you elaborate on this jess?

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 17 January 2004 15:52 (twenty years ago) link

All with Sarah: Went to the video store, returned movies and checked out "Klute," went to taqueria place we'd never been to before, bought way more food than necessary because we were really hungry, came home and ate while we watched most of the movie. Then went out to the Empty Bottle, which it turns out is like a 10 minute walk from our house, and saw three bands: Bang! Bang!, the Sights, and the Modey Lemon. The first was ok, the third were pretty good but were blown away by the Sights, who were fucking awesome. Drank some really cheap beer. Saw two incredibly drunk guys, one who looked like Moby and one who looked like Kenny G, make fools of themselves by dancing drunkenly and dorkily in front of the band. Walked home with tiny pieces of ice flying into our face, finished watching Klute, went to sleep.

NA (Nick A.), Saturday, 17 January 2004 16:09 (twenty years ago) link

IMed w/ bf, watched not-so-good movie abt monster mutant bears on AMC, drank too much, passed out

tweemu (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 17 January 2004 16:19 (twenty years ago) link

What did you think of the keyboard/2nd guitar player for the Modey Lemon, NA? He didn't used to be part of the band, and I think they were better without him.

I gave two classmates a Dreamweaver tutorial and then we ate curry chicken and rice and washed it down with loads of wine. Then they had to leave because the fucking tube shuts at fucking midnight.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 17 January 2004 16:24 (twenty years ago) link

I've never seen them before, so I don't really have anything to compare, and I'm couldn't really tell which one was the newbie (I guess the guy who wasn't singing) because they looked a lot alike. It did seem like they were both pretty much playing the same thing, sometimes one on keyboard and the other on guitar, so maybe they just wanted to be louder? We only stayed for the first half of their set; like I said, I felt like they were pretty much outshined by the Sights, who were pretty incredible despite their generic name.

NA (Nick A.), Saturday, 17 January 2004 16:29 (twenty years ago) link

modey lemon rocks. that's cool that you guys live so close to the empty bottle. that's where i saw jonathan fire*eater for the first time. *swoon*

I would check out Garageband except we already shelled out like $300 for Logic Audio, which is way too complicated but kind of makes me feel smart and like I'm actually doing something impressive except I have no idea what I'm doing.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 January 2004 03:06 (twenty years ago) link

Logic Audio 6, it's pretty nu. We bought the cheapo version first (express?), but it doesn't run on OSX.

Invited a bunch of friends I haven't seen in a while to my (relatively) new apt. Surprisingly, almost all of them showed up, so it was quite packed--I was assuming about a 60% response and therefore invited lots of people. Turned into a full-blown party. Drank Miller High Life and some ass-nasty Stoli Raz that someone brought over. Played Balderdash at one point. Bed about 4 am.

Had the best night! A friend came over & we had some yummy food & lots of red wine. Then we had our own disco where we danced loads. Then about 12 we went to a party (where my boy was) & on the way we swigged wine from the bottle & sang Primal Scream songs at the tops of our voices. Chilled at my friends house (where the party was) & chatted for hours about crap due to me being hammered. Got home about 4 in the morning & watched Trisha with one eye closed! Then we all went to bed. I started chatting to J, but must have fallen asleep as I woke up the next morning with my head under the duvet hugging my knees with the light still on. It confused me when I turned the light out & it was still light in the room! ahhh crazy times!

I'm kinda nervous but more excited, as I know lots of people will be coming out for this. I love that this band is very improv oriented but not at all a "jam band", it's the kind of thing I've been wanting to do for quite some time. Then when we get done I'm gonna drink gin & tonics and proceed to make a fool of myself in front of a great many awesome girls that I won't end up making out with by the end of the night.

Hm, probably sleep. I've already been out three nights this week and want to zone for a bit.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 January 2004 18:08 (twenty years ago) link

Watched Bad Santa after classes. Then went to the pub at half 3 and drank til 8. Settled some differences with an old friend. Going getting some food after this post and then watch Scary Movie 3 I think.

Go home, kill some people in Unreal maybe. Say hi to the girlfriend. Go to the gig. Eat a free Chilean Churrasco tuna steak & avocado sandwich (potential highlight of the night). Play jazz gig. Go home, sleep.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 23 January 2004 20:07 (twenty years ago) link

Went to the ICA for some Deep&Meaningful sortofplay with dry-ice lighting and a soundtrack of heartbeats, and then home to laze about, look up cake recipies, and contemplate watching my shiny new Infernal Affairs II VCD.

cis (cis), Friday, 23 January 2004 22:37 (twenty years ago) link

I will: Put on Golden Boy & Miss Kitten. Make some dinner. Drink one extra 3 glasses of wine while cooking that shit. Get in trouble with girlfriend when she gets home. But not too much. It's NYC, so it's goona be cold. We'll go to a Brooklyn bar. But we're kind of poor, so won't stay long. If it's not late, we might watch Spinal Tap (weirdly, she's never seen it). If it is, cuddling under the covers.

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 23 January 2004 22:43 (twenty years ago) link

Dinner at a new tapas restaurant with friends. Then either retire to a nearby bar, or go see The Fog of War at the Music Box.

Friday night happened. I played a good gig and had a good Chilean tuna steak sandwich. Girlfriend went out with friends and isn't home yet. Dizzee Rascal is great when drunk for some reason. Guess I'll go to bed.

It was great walking home in the rain last night. It was the kind of rain that gets to you regardless of wether you have an umbrella or not. There was a moment when everything was so silent and it felt like I was somewhere else completely. I wasn't drunk.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 24 January 2004 11:50 (twenty years ago) link

Well if it's any consolation I'll be making a fool of myself too. And five hours earlier to boot.

This proved to be horribly true. I have bruises on both knees, blood under my right foot big toenail, and I have somehow aquired an orange feather boa.

Earlier in the evening I remember my friend Leon and I discovered a piano disguised as a table in the bar we were in. I can't sing, he can't play. We did a jazz version of Three Blind Mice, with me perched on the edge of the piano, cigarette in hand. A girl told me I looked like Jessica Rabbit. I was made up at the time, but now I think she was either being sarcastic or as drunk as we were.

I am a hungover girl who aims vomiting.

Anna (Anna), Saturday, 24 January 2004 13:25 (twenty years ago) link

Is it a nice orange feather boa?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 24 January 2004 16:44 (twenty years ago) link

It is actually. I think it came from my friend C's office where we went when the bar shut (central, more booze, good stereo, cool stuff to play with.) We were playing on a scooter. I wiped out twice. This is where the bruises came from. Great evening out. I can think this now the hangover has abated slightly.

Anna (Anna), Saturday, 24 January 2004 17:04 (twenty years ago) link

ha ha, Jessica Rabbit. i bet you can do the voice and everything...

I am so tired, I drank loads of guinness and told the barman in my local he looks like a hen, and everyone calls him "the hen". It's true but he's an ok guy I didn't need to hurt him really! Funny though

Does he look like a hen?

Anna (Anna), Saturday, 24 January 2004 18:37 (twenty years ago) link

Completely. You should see him walking around picking up empty glasses!

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 24 January 2004 20:41 (twenty years ago) link

I watched the film Mike's Murder. Debra Winger plays a bank teller whose having an on-and-off affair with a guy who ends up getting killed in a drug deal. She's not quite ready to admit he's gone and ends up learning more than she should about his life. Winger did a great job. I also ordered a bacon and extra-cheese pizza, which they burnt. I still ate most of it.

Tonights activities include cleaning the cat boxes, folding laundry, and eating leftover spinach and mushroom quiche. Spouse-to-be is at his lolbatchelor party, so it is just me and the cat.
