Dog Latin's 'Eureka Moments' Playlist poll pt II

Following on from this thread where we polled the first 50 entries and 'O Superman' won.

This section picks up just as I was entering adulthood and in my fresher's year at uni. A good a place as any, as this marks the point where I think I became a proper music nut and spent way too much of my student loan on CDs. Thank the gods for Audiogalaxy, and later Soulseek for allowing access to a plethora of stuff I'd previously never had the chance to be exposed to. It ends around 2005 when I was in my mid-20s.

Vote for your faves!

I admire your project DL, and your picks are wonderful.

I've pondered this because of your threads, but I don't think that I could do it: list 'Eureka' songs of yore. Biggest 'problem' I feel with the exercise is the unreliability of memory, and time. I'd probably overlook songs that were Eureka for me at the time, or herald songs I now feel were Eureka but at the time weren't? Know this sounds mental, but this bugs me, were I to do this. (I can name a few dozen unfuckwithables, sure, but couldn't come up with such an extensive list as yourself).

In A Beautiful Place... is definitely on my list though. I remember everything from when I heard it first. Seeing snow slowly trickle down out my bedroom window, shone on by orangy streetlight. The empty street looking like a film set. I feel the bed covers I had then, the headphone cord tugging slightly, the scent in my room, the glowing feeling on my face from having been out that freezing winter night smoking weed with friends and immediately going to bed in a warm room. Everything. And it's one of the very few songs of which, upon hearing for the first, I did not just know was Eureka, but felt and sensed it wholly. Magical.

Several of these were Eureka songs for me too. Rain Dogs and If She Wants Me for sure.

Really interested in your Elvis choice, it being a fairly obscure one of his.

I voted for the Selecter/"Celebrate the Bullet", love this video of them performing it on the Old Grey Whistle Test:

xp I went through a big but short-lived Elvis phase. could easily have picked 'The Wonder of You'. I generally prefer his later stuff rather than the early r'n'r stuff. 'I'm Leavin' is such an amazing song. Kinda dark and Lynchian. Doesn't really sound like anything else he's done.

Lot of great stuff in there, got to be Rain Dogs though.

I remember waking up one day and decided I had to own "Stranded in the jungle" The Cadets. One visit to Discogs, and a wait of about a week, I had a copy of the original single. Didn't cost much.
