"Goodnight", like around half of The White Album, is a parody, with none of the harmonic sophistication usually associated with Paul.

However, I forgot one Paul song in my worst-of list. The awful "Helter Skelter" is probably ridning very high in that list.

That one didn't sound like The Beatles. "Sub Rosa Subway" did though. :-)

He shouldn't.

Paul McCartney has always best at ballads. That's when he is at his melodically and harmonically most exciting. His rock'n'rollers are sound like The Beatles didn't actually happen at all, and that nothing had happened musically since 1957 or so.

(i was one of those "savoy truffle" fans, and i think it's an underrated bit of witty, concise 'classical' songwriting)

"Cry Baby Cry" is another strange one, especially since Lennon disavowed it in one interview
the version of "Across The Universe" on Rarities is the one to get

In the case of The Beatles, "Tomorrow Never Knows", "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "I Am The Walrus" will be forgotten in 100 years. "Yesterday" and "Hey Jude" and "Michelle" will not.

The other songs all suck.

Are 'I'm Only Sleeping' and 'For No One' the universally loved beatles songs that get no attention? They are surprisingly high on that consensus list.

A fairly spontaneous list that could change significantly day by day, except for #1 which is an eternal favourite. I don't really value Lennon songs THAT much over McCartney songs - it's just the way the list turned out. And personally, I prefer all three of Harrison's much-maligned "sitar songs" to "Savoy Truffle."

"Calling Occupants" has a mellotron intro a la "Strawberry Fields" and a total "I Am the Walrus" electric piano part.

But also a very 1976 production that sounded way more like ELO or 10cc than like The Beatles.

I like the Beatles pretty swell, but they sure are overrated. "Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da" almost by itself cancels out the considerable musical cachet achieved by the songs on my list.

I kind of wish I could've gotten "I'm Only Sleeping" onto this list, but there are plenty of bands--some of whom with fewer songs in their catalogue--for which making such a list would be far far more difficult for me.
