The Cover of 'Bat Out Of Hell'

I was asked this question the other day by a friend, who is a music buff and I wanted to check if he was right. QUESTION:what is written on the tombstone, in the graveyard, on the cover of Meatloaf's-'Bat Out Of Hell' album? He said it was "Corben 77". Can you help me out, as I don't have access to any Meatloaf albums

Two things that I've learned in the last five minutes:

  • I never noticed the prominent SONGS BY JIM STENMAN before now. Maybe it's because I've never actually paid any attention to this album cover.

  • and
  • I'm not pleased that the first thing I thought of was an (admittedly dubious) cover connection to this:

But I still can't read what's on the tombstone, so sorry.

I don't have it in front of me, but the "corben 77" would make sense, since the cover art is by Richard Corben, done in 1977...I'm asuming it's just where he decided to put his signature on the painting...

This one's for the anti-rockists out there:

The cover of Bat Out of Hell has always been the best thing about the album.

    Whereas this one.....

...has a cover as lame as the music it sleeves.

    Are they really that different?

The tombstone closest to the base of the cover, that is half cut off (at least on my CD), says "Corben 77". None of the others say anything AFAICT.

Word up! I was soooo disappointed when I was a lil' metal kid and I listened to the album at my uncle's, expecting that it was going to be some heavy, evil devil-ass shit and then I was all like "Billy Joel WTF!".....same with Molly Hatchett.

    eleven years pass...

"Roadie" is a deeply weird movie. I do not really understand how Mr. Loaf managed such an odd career.
