Please provide further fodder to my fire for Cilla, Dusty, Dionne, and Sandie Shaw.
Suggestions very appreciated!

my ipod has three cilla black songs, in order of utter fucking fabulousness:
"i've been wrong before," from "girl group sounds lost and found," a ballad written by randy newman, one of the most gorgeously cynical love songs ever written.
"m'innamoro," from a mix cd my friend andy made for me, sung in italian, with soft, vaguely bossa nova verses that break into big, brassy, orchestral choruses, kinda like tom jones anticipating the pixies.
"work is a four letter word," from "dream babes vol 2: reflections," a petula clark-ish sunshine pop song with quirky phrasing and a hippie-ish message any sane person can relate to.

i'll assume you already have "girl group sounds lost and found," but if you don't, get it. also get as many volumes as you can find of "dream babes," which is basically the all-british version of the same thing.
also search:
sandy posey - "see ya 'round on the rebound"
paris sisters - "always waitin'"
julie grant - "stop"
twinkle - "golden lights"
shangri-las - "train from kansas city"
dalida - "ciao amore ciao"
petula clark - "i know a place"
dolly parton - "jolene"
kirsty maccoll - "they don't know"
