STRANGE fits of passion have I known: And I will dare to tell, But in the Lover's ear alone, What once to me befell.
I fed a fish to a pelican at Frisco bay,Fresh as a rose in June, It tried to eat my cell phone, he ran awayBeneath an evening-moon.

Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Juggalo
― Mr. Que, Friday, 9 April 2010 14:36 (fourteen years ago) link
IAmong twenty snowy mountains,The only moving thingWas the eye of the juggalo.
III was of three minds,Like a treeIn which there are three fuckin juggalos, bitch.
IIIThe juggalo whirled in the Faygo fountain. It was a small part of the pantomime.
IVA man and a womanAre one.A man and a woman and a juggaloAre one.
How the fuck does that work?
VI do not know which to prefer,The beauty of inflectionsOr the beauty of innuendoes,The juggalo rappingOr just after.
VI
Icicles filled the long windowWith barbaric glass. The shadow of the juggaloCrossed it, to and fro.The moodTraced in the shadowAn indecipherable cause.
VIIO thin men of Haddam,Why do you imagine golden birds?Do you not see how the juggaloWalks around the feetOf the women about you?
VIIII know noble accentsAnd lucid, inescapable rhythms; But I know, too,That the juggalo is involvedIn what I know.
IXWhen the pelican flew out of sight,It marked the edgeOf one of many circlesThat son-of-a-bitch stole my cell phone
XAt the sight of FaygoFlying in a green light,Even the bawds of euphonyWould cry out sharply.
XIHe rode over ConnecticutIn a glass coach.Once, a fear pierced him,In that he mistookThe shadow of his equipageFor juggalos.
XIIThe river is moving. The juggalo must be high.
XIIIIt was evening all afternoon. It was snowingAnd it was going to snow. The juggalo satIn the cedar-limbsSmoking the fattest blunt you've ever seen.

Open here I flung the shitter, when, with many a fart and titter,In there stepped an ugly pelican of the fugly days of yore. Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he;But, with mien of Juggalo or lass, ate my cellphone, I got sore -Perched upon the Great Milenko just above my outhouse door -Perched, and sat, and nothing more.
Then this lame-ass bird beguiling my sad clownface into smiling,By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,`Though in your beak my phone has haven, thou,' I said, `art sure no craven.Ghastly annoying dumb pelican wandering from the Bayside shore -Tell me what thy lordly name is on SF's Plutonian shore!'Quoth the pelican, `Fuck you dude.'

They used to be exceedingly good at swinging between ridiculously goofy and hilarious, and kind of creepy and unsettling but still hilarious, then their decent producer left and they ran out of ideas for a while. It makes sense that when Mike E. Clark came back, they'd get some decent beats back again and come up with more entertaining goofy shit like this.

great milenko only entertained me for the first fifteen minutes of the first listen, but it's possible i'm more peurile than i was in high school (i had to write a preview of their upcoming show for the weekender section of the local paper, only the band backed out of the gig the day of because the stage was too small for their many faygo bottles or something. thankfully it was relatively early in the juggalo era and there wasn't a full-blown riot).
― da croupier, Friday, 9 April 2010 16:59 (fourteen years ago) link
Yeah well the problem is that you hit "Piggy Pie" and it's like "holy shit this is fucking awful, fuck you ICP" and that might mean you never make it to "The Neden Game" (which IIRC wasn't on the original Disney-approved album anyway but is like miles ahead of everything else on the album).

The wackassness rose up to it,And sprawled around, no longer wild. The phone was there upon the groundAnd tall and of a port in air.

The rain set early in to-night,The sullen wind was soon awake,It tore the elm-tops down for spite,And did its worst to vex the lake:I listened with heart fit to break.When glided in a butterfly; straightShe shut the cold out and the storm,And kneeled and made the cheerless grateBlaze up, and all the cottage warm;
Which done, she rose, and from her formWithdrew the dripping cloak and shawl,And laid her soiled gloves by, untiedHer hat and let the damp hair fall,And, last, she sat down by my sideAnd called me. When no voice replied,She put my arm about her waist,And made her smooth white shoulder bare,And all her yellow hair displaced,And, stooping, made my cheek lie there,
And spread, o'er all, her yellow hair,Murmuring how she loved me--sheToo weak, for all her heart's endeavour,To set its struggling passion freeFrom pride, and vainer ties dissever,And give herself to me for ever. But passion sometimes would prevail,Nor could to-night's gay feast restrainA sudden thought of one so paleFor love of her, and all in vain:So, she was come through wind and rain.
Be sure I looked up at her eyesHappy and proud; at last I knewPorphyria worshipped me; surpriseMade my heart swell, and still it grewWhile I debated what to do.That moment she was mine, mine, fair,Perfectly pure and good: I foundA thing to do, and all her hairIn one long yellow string I woundThree times her little throat around,
And strangled her. No pain felt she;I am quite sure she felt no pain.As a shut bud that holds a bee,I warily oped her lids: againLaughed the blue eyes without a stain. And I untightened next the tressAbout her neck; her cheek once moreBlushed bright beneath my burning kiss:I propped her head up as before,
Only, this time my shoulder bore 50Her head, which droops upon it still:The smiling rosy little head,So glad it has its utmost will,That all it scorned at once is fled,And I, its love, am gained instead!Porphyria's love: she guessed not howHer darling one wish would be heard. And thus we sit together now,And all night long we have not stirred,And yet God has not said a word!

^i've always said this. they are smart, down-to-earth guys who totally understand their place in the world.
i kind of want to interview them myself, but i don't know how the pitch would go. Like call psychopathic and be like "do you want to talk about the fact that hipsters are deconstructing you all day?"
― the smh westerns (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 12 April 2010 00:40 (fourteen years ago) link
as usual you're shoehorning the word "hipster" in where it's kind of unnecessary, but i don't think it'd be that hard a sell, to want to talk to them about how the outside world views them. plus, i mean, you don't put on clown makeup and then get mad when people laugh at you.
― fucka washa hat (some dude), Monday, 12 April 2010 00:42 (fourteen years ago) link

the line about what you'd say when calling their label made it seem like you were talking about how to justify the interview to the interviewees, not to an editor.

― fucka washa hat (some dude), Monday, 12 April 2010 00:48 (fourteen years ago) link
having read through several of the long icp/juggalo related threads i'm still rly unsure what to make of them
beyond 'the fact' of their transitory meme life there's obviously something there, but it seems like they've bequeathed a culture that thrives without them? like if icp vanished the thing would go on somehow, and some other business would organize, or the juggalos wd self organize rhizomatically
― nakhchivan, Monday, 12 April 2010 00:49 (fourteen years ago) link
on the contrary, i think they're a cottage industry unto themselves in part BECAUSE they're smart businessmen and know how to merchandise and service their fans. they're like the new Kiss, makeup and all.

and btw i don't really think what they do is that remarkable or unusual, once you look past how crazy the whole ICP thing is. i mean, 311 have a similarly enduring cult and huge annual events, etc., the refugees of the '90s that have survived in this way are always kind of surprising and often horribly uncool.

no that's right xp, and of course the nostalgia audience will often increase with time in any case, but the juggalo thing evidently both endures with older gens and speaks to kids with no cultural memory/assocations with that time
not sure i'd liken it to people following 311 or whatever, they may be as numerous but not as committed in most instances, and 311 is more anachronistically nineties whereas the juggalo thing sort of seems to exist outside of normal pop cultural time now?

the constant attention you pay to ilx/williamsboard/whatever those other sites are that i guess represent 'hipsters' just gives those groups even more attention & a disproportionate amount of significance in your head than they have in the real world. its like, if u actually have some critique to make about these ideas, then call out individual writers or something but stop spending time opining abt the motives of some shadow group of cultural antiheroes youve decided need so much damn attention. its just as bad as uncritically propping up every 'hipster' band that gets some buzz ... u can step back & remove yourself from that game entirely

i agree w/ the first part of this but the 2nd is like ... 'transcribe gucci mane lyrics' is something hipsters do? what? thats something rap fans have done since forever w/ their favorite artists. bragging about blues 78s? dont all kinds of music nerd dorks do that? when """"hipsters"""" is so broadly defined that it includes such vast spectrums where jordan sargent is in the same as steve buscemi's character in 'ghost world' then what meaning does that even have. you start being like ... "can we stop pretending like hipster means something?" (i'm on board) then "because it means us, we're hipsters, and we're not like REAL AMERICA" meanwhile REAL AMERICA has the internet. they know it exists. all it takes is the ability to communicate w/ people and you can enter a conversation w/ people on ilx. the only person who really seems to divide ppl up into condescending groups is whiney weingarten

dog i write for pitchfork. i 'get' this. the stereogum comment was a joke @ whiney's expense. im still pointing out the meaninglessness of this project he has of identifying things that are cool w/ hipsters & things that arent. as far as i can tell, as a human being w/ an interest in culture, the only thing i can do to **not** be a hipster is just not have interests, at all. as soon as i enter into discourse w/ ilx or williamsboard or whatever other sites whiney fanatically keeps up w, then i become **one of them.**
this is totally not about 'me', i voluntarily joined pfork & i dont care/havent for ages whether someone cares if i am a 'hipster' or not -- i just think its a waste of dude's life to keep worrying about this shit because its really so meaningless

i mean seriously, my writing on pf*rk is like the least-concerned with whatever people on williamsboard think about the music i like as it can be (NOTE:: this is not saying anything about whether i am or am not a hipster, just observing that writing about that shit is really super boring). i dont care what rap artists are doing 20 shows at cmj. maybe that makes me **more** of a hipster, bcuz i think im following my own taste or whatever. i dont really care. but id much prefer to write that way than spend all my time agonizing over whether or not j stalin is now a **hipster rapper** because whiney saw a review of him on pfork (or the opposite -- deej thinks hes down with the skreets & hes informing the ''''hipsters'''!! instead of actually reading & understanding what the argument made abt the music actually was)
― The BoyBoy Big HOO$ (deej), Monday, 12 April 2010 07:24 (fourteen years ago) link
it is true that whiney does seem to be thinking about hipsterism 24/7 but c'mon, dude is one of those dudes who when he's thinkin about something really gets super-focused & intense about it, that is just how he is as a thinker & that's part of what makes him interesting so lighten up and let a man be himself
― Twink Will Ferrell (J0hn D.), Monday, 12 April 2010 07:24 (fourteen years ago) link
whiney can be excused for thinking about hipsterism 24/7 considering that he lives in williamsburg -- it would be like a dude living in a rat cage thinking about what rats are up to all the time -- i think we should feel bad for him more than we should attack him tbh

ok, good argument, i'm off to bed.
in hug-it-out spirit, i'm gonna say that whenever you read the word "hipster" coming from one of my posts, just replace it with, "the wide spectrum of people currently into alternative culture that are both consuming and creating a huge part of the internet discourse we are currently involved in--including certain alt-weeklies, magazines, indie music review sites, music blogs and message board much like our beloved ilx"
― estela artois (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 12 April 2010 07:32 (fourteen years ago) link
i think to be a lil less personal in my annoyance & more fair to whiney, i do think that the constant focus on 'hipsters' does a really good job of obscuring actual existing communities that exist out there & reduces it all to an 'us' vs 'them' reductive mentality that gives one extremely vague subculture an overwhelming weight ... why when i said the sade single was dope on pfork did it become '''hipsters love sade now, huh''' instead of, this one dude likes sade? because it could just as easily have gone the other way, in some sense -- there are plenty of culturally-aware young ppl who uhh i dont know dig 'the wire' or post on williamsboard & dont like sade. & with music it gets super annoying because its like, if im identifying as a 'hipster' do i suddenly have an obligation to care about joanna newsome? or like, i dont know, animal collective? & its not about me saying "yo animal collective sucks!" its about the idea that i should feel obligated to enter into that discussion at all, when i (and im sure some people here) know plenty of cool, reasonably hip people who've never heard animal collective in their lives.
its like, either hipsters are one kind of person or they are multitudes, but a lot of times engaging w/ whiney about this stuff feels like hes trying to have his cake & eat it too
― The BoyBoy Big HOO$ (deej), Monday, 12 April 2010 07:37 (fourteen years ago) link
'have his cake and eat it too' meaning 'everyone is basically a hipster' while saying 'gucci is such hipster music' & meanwhile i know 0.0 'hipsters' who give a toss about the dude ... & of course there are some who do, because 'alt culture' covers this huge amount of ground. 'hipsters love making fun of icp' -- well duh, so do lots of people of all walks of life
― The BoyBoy Big HOO$ (deej), Monday, 12 April 2010 07:39 (fourteen years ago) link
we gotta have some logic problems here.
not all hipsters listen to gucci, not all gucci fans are hipstersnot all icp zingers are hipsters, not all hipsters are icp zingers
But in both of those cases, a notable amount of people who are undeniably hipsters happen to engage in those activities in 2010. It's not as us v them as u think

TO what purpose, pelican, do you return again?Miracles are not enough. You can no longer quiet my phone with the rednessOf big beak opening stickily.I know what I know. The sun is hot on my neck as I observeThe spikes of fukkin' flowersThe smell of the earth is good.It is apparent that there is no death. But what does that fukkin' mean? Not only under ground are the brains of menEaten by magnetsLife in itselfIs magicA fukkin' rainbow, a flight of pyramid stairsIt is enough that yearly, down this hill,ShaggyComes like a scientist, babbling and strewing flowers.

Once there were juggaloes in the campgrounds in the Midwest. You could see them standing in the amber light where the white edges of their makeup bled softly in the sun. They smelled of faygo on their hands. Painted and white and stoned. On their faces were clownish patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not to be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all juggaloes were older than man and they hummed of mystery.

On first looking into Violent J's Faygo
MUCH have I travell’d in the realms of sound, And many goodly clown-faced MCs heard; Round many midwestern states have I learned Which bards in fealty to Puff are found. Oft of one wide waist did they expound That deep-brow’d soothsayer ruled as his demesne; Yet did I never breathe its pure serene Till I heard Violent J speak out loud. O, clowned! Then felt I like some bitch of the skies When a new miracle swims into his ken; Or like stout Carles when with eagle eyes He star’d at the blogosphere—and all his followers Look’d at each other with a wild surmise— Silent, upon a pouffe in Williamsburg.

Everyone is aware that life is parodic and that it lacks an interpretation. Thus lead is the parody of gold. Air is the parody of water. The brain is the parody of the equator. Coitus is the parody of crime.
An umbrella, a sexagenarian, a seminarian, the smell of rotten eggs, the hollow eyes of judges are the roots that nourish love.
A dog devouring the stomach of a goose, a drunken vomiting woman, a slobbering accountant, a jar of mustard represent the confusion that serves as the vehicle of love.

So I have a Juggalo on my caseload now. I found this out last week and managed to say "Oh so you're down with the clown, huh?" with a straight face. He whipped out his ICP wallet as proof that he is, in fact, down with the clown. So today I asked him how magnets work and he said, "IDK, magic?" I LOLd. Turns out he didn't know this song yet. Sent him home with instructions to view vid and report back with a detailed review tomorrow.

At the risk of sounding like a judgmental, classist jerk, I definitely take issue with the whole "Scientists are liars! Miracles are the real explanation!" element of the song. I don't care if underneath the make-up, Shaggy is a physicist and Violent J is a neurobiologist; encouraging people to discard actual facts about the world in which we live in favor of attributing things to "miracles" is not good. Encouraging skepticism? Definitely. Encouraging people to explore and question? Absolutely. But just straight up insisting that scientists are liars and everything is really just due to MIRACLES OMG is troubling as a world view.
If their encouragement to disbelieve scientists and instead attribute all "unexplained"* phenomena to God is all a part of their crypto-Christian agenda, well, I think that's pretty deplorable, too. I'm not even saying that I begrudge them their religious views. I don't. I'm saying that encouraging people to regress back to some dark age as far as their knowledge of the world is concerned is a bad idea and absolutely worth mockery, regardless of whether these Clowns actually mean it or are actually smart or whatever.
*Unknown to them, I mean. Most of what they are singing about is actually pretty well explained, ie magnets and how the fuck they work - regardless of how many people on ILX know how magnets work, the point is that it is known and pretty easy to look up should one be so inclined. Actually, the first Google search result for "how magnets work" - http://www.coolmagnetman.com/maghow.htm - consists of information presented in 1952. So humans have had a pretty good understanding of magnets for some time now.

I'm gonna fess up and say if I ever knew how magnets worked exactly, I don't remember how. iirc: magnetic force is due to moving electrical charges; a linear magnetic force is produced when electrical charge moves in a circular direction; therefore the electron orbitals of each atom produce tiny magnetic forces as they orbit the atom; magnetic metals are magnetic because in those metals the electron orbitals can easily line up in the same direction, and the billions of atom-sized magnets thus work together to produce a huge force. it's kind of a miracle when u think about it

as someone unfamiliar with any wider icp eschatology 'miracles' just seems shorthand for the sort of 'look at the carpark' strain of weak optimism that's more or less nondenominational, maybe it is more sinister but the song alone is insufficient evidence

Since you asked so nicely, I will address your concern without biting your head off.
I'm not taking this seriously to the point that I'm thinking about the impact of ICP's teachings and philosophy on the Youth of America when I am not actively engaged in this thread. I'm mostly presenting that argument as a counterpoint to your defense (if it even rises to the level of a defense - maybe it's just an opposing point of view? I don't want to ascribe more ICP-related enthusiasm to your posts that you actually intend) that ICP are actually smart dudes. To sum up my response using fewer words: their regressive world view belies any actual intelligence that they may have.
Some of my apparent passion is probably coming from a TED talk I watched last night about pretty much that very subject (regressive thinking re: science, not ICP, although I would probably watch a TED talk by or about ICP, too). It was mostly in the context of anti-GMO food activists and vaccine deniers, but the common thread is this idea that scientists are liars who are not to be trusted.

Oh I guess I was also responding to some comments that were kind of in the vein of "making fun of ICP is an elitist thing to do." I'm not making fun of them for their music or their weight or their aesthetic, but I do think there are elements of their schtick that are legitimately worth looking at critically, and the anti-science element is one that stood out the most for me as far as this particular song goes.
― she is writing about love (Jenny), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 17:55 (fourteen years ago) link
to me, the best thing i've read about the song's "real" pov was the slate article--it's just some dudes, smokin stuff, thinkin' about rainbows. it's not any more complicated than that.
I stan for scientists, too. I also think that ICP use any smarts they have primarily for:
- making money- getting people who would normally be bitter, angry reactionaries to be nice to each other and many of those around them
...so, as such, I kind of don't care if they're particularly regressive in their thinking on questions like magnets because it's wholly secondary to why they exist, namely to get paid.

The Connecticut Joint Chapters of the IEEE Microwave Theory & Techniques Society, Antenna & Propagation, Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control Society and the IEEE Student Branch at UCONN are presenting a lecture on: The Design of Electromagnetic Products by Dr. R@tnajeevan H0ole of RPI’s Graduate Center in Hartford, CT Abstract: The design of electromagnetic products has shifted from the guess-make-test-check-revise cycle of the period up to the 1960s, to the guess-analyze-check-revise cycle of the 1980s, to today’s state of the art methods of designing as a one step process. The several months’ long process in creating a device design is today down significantly. These new powerful one-shot design methods apply equally to the design of transistors, waveguides, antennae, electric machinery, recording systems and much more. Optimization remains at the very core of the methodology. However, these elegant methods require an expert who can come up with the starting design that, once postulated, can then be optimized.

i don't think icp were going for a critique of science per se as much as they're decrying the way the language of science (as successful and wonderful as it is) often reduces the beauty of nature to mere words.
― Asstral Cheeks (latebloomer), Monday, 26 April 2010 02:10 (fourteen years ago) link
not saying i agree with them, but i think that's where the spirit of their sentiment is coming from.
― Asstral Cheeks (latebloomer), Monday, 26 April 2010 02:16 (fourteen years ago) link
well yeah, i think that's a sentiment held by a lot of the "lay public"---like why can't a sunset be a sunset, why can't magnets just be fukkin magnets? why do we need to demystify the mysterious etc
it's still pretty stupid imo, because in my experience, the more you learn about science the weirder and more beautiful it gets
cf dawkins and "unweaving the rainbow," which addresses that sentiment head-on

i don't think icp were going for a critique of science per se as much as they're decrying the way the language of science (as successful and wonderful as it is) often reduces the beauty of nature to mere words
I agree with you in part, because they spend so much time in awe of the natural world in the song, but the tone is too strongly anti-intellectual to read it as embracing both the worlds of empiricism and imagination. I mean, this is not like Wm. Blake's beef with Newton/Bacon/Locke here.
― Walter Melon (Abbott), Monday, 26 April 2010 02:34 (fourteen years ago) link
"embracing both the worlds of empiricism and imagination" isn't exactly right –– in this song, they are spending a lot of time saying "here is some epic shit we think is awesome, and the awe it gives us makes us feel like there is beyond the comprehension of a mere mortal juggalo or jugalette." At the same time, they're not saying "this sense of awe is really dulled by attempts to explain it empirically, which is frustrating" or "science is inadequate at explaining why these feelings of grandeur and the sublime burn in my heart, and therefore it is a limiting worldview." Both of those messages I could understand & maybe even agree with to a certain extent, but I don't think either of those subtleties are captured in "y'all motherfuckers lying," which is a blanket dismissal not only of "the language of science," but of science itself. The dialogue ends there. They are not going to listen to anyone they disagree with, period. It's that "fuck you" that kind of kills whatever sublimity they were going for here.

Well, yeah. It maybe needs a full stanza to elaborate the idea. But then you would end up losing out on shoutouts to ghosts and pyramids, two of the most prominent natural phenomena that science completely fails to explain.

Druids use rock and magnets to stop road accidentsAustrian authorities say druids have been so successful in dealing with motorway accident blackspots in one area that they plan to extend the project nationwide.

control-f "peep the giraffe" = "phrase not found"
"I don’t know what Webster’s definition of the word “miracle” is, but we’ve always thought it meant something fuckin’ amazing and incredible. A fuckin’ special, awesome event of some kind. A great, wonderful thing. A fuckin’ miracle.
The song “Miracles” is classic ICP. Our listeners know we’ve always included one or two deep, meaningful songs on our albums, we’ve just never made a video for one until now. It was a good idea, obviously, ‘cause it’s got people talkin’. The truth is it don’t make us mad to see all the hate “Miracles” gets from the mainstream. We’ve been “The Most Hated Band in The World” for many years. Without all the hate on the outside, it wouldn’t be as warm as it is on the inside with the Juggalo Fam. Instead, all the hate “Miracles” generates makes us sad. Sad for the haters.
I mean, yeah, we get it. It’s funny to people on the outside lookin’ in, seeing two clowns rapping about space and shit, while floatin’ around in an orgy of screen savers. And SNL’s parody was off the hook hilarious. But when you step back and really look at all the genuine hate it got from everyday people, it’s hard to believe that so few got it.
Yes, most of the miracles we mention can easily be explained away by science, that’s why we say the line “fuck scientists.” Their factual findings sometimes explain away the Earth’s cool mysteries. Part of me wishes they were lying. Part of me doesn't want to know how they really make crop circles. My imagination wants to believe it’s aliens or somethin’. If people can’t relate to that, then that’s their loss. I mean, seriously, it must truly suck to have no imagination about these things. Us Juggalos have deep imaginations, and an awesome sense of humor.
As for the infamous line, “fuckin’ magnets… how do they work?” Magnets were like magic to me as a kid. You could move things across the table without actually touching them! I found that shit amazing and I still do. If you don’t like that, have a dick for dinner. As for the sun and the stars. Who looks up into the sky and doesn't wonder sometimes? Come on, man, I fuckin’ straight up feel sorry for anybody that can look at the moon the trees, and the seven seas, and not see fuckin’ miracles. It’s not about religion either. Nature itself is a miracle. Stand toe to toe with the ocean at night and tell me that shit ain’t amazing.
We appreciate all this shit. Especially a yellow ass, long neck giraffe. What’s a shame is how people walk around blind to it all. They lost their spirit about everything. If you can’t even see the miracle in animals, then you must have never truly loved a pet. That has to suck for you. Maybe you mother fuckers should relax that wound up, extra tense bitch ass of yours for a minute and go smoke a joint or somethin’.
Be an individual, step out and away from the flow of the crowd. Take a time out, open up ya mind and then peep the giraffe. Try to appreciate some of these miracles, bitch.
What’s a miracle is the fact that some people haven’t recognized by now that Insane Clown Posse will never die. ICP will go down in history as an independent music miracle. Get used to these ugly faces. MMFCLJ.
Violent JThe Happy Clown Serial Killer
P.S. -We feel like these haters are the big dumb, popular jocks ganging up on the little class clown scrub. When they have no idea the scrub is really a highly skilled, deadly, ninja assassin capable of cleaning their fuckin’ clocks.

yeah but I think all violent j is saying is "there is fun & wonder to be had in indulging a particular perspective" - it's a very post-LSD sort of reasoning: adopt a perspective, ride with it a while, you don't have to permanently adopt it but inhabiting a perspective is a worthwhile activity

I'll let my boy Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel field this one:"The realization attained by this individuality consists therefore in nothing more than this, viz. that it has cast forth this circle of abstractions from its confinement within simple self-consciousness, into the element where they are for self-consciousness, in other words, are expanded into an objective existence. [...] The merely single individuality [...], instead of having taken the plunge from dead Theory into Life, has therefore really only plunged into the consciousness of its own lifelessness and has as its lot only empty and alien necessity, a dead actuality."

haha, ok, that's pretty great. I wouldn't give up "Steal My Sunshine" for it but today's teens need a feel-good anthem.
I like how many long stretches of it actually discuss really innocuous fun, so it's not like the momentary lapses into profanity and drugs aren't corny punchlines like "oh ha, he set it up talking about hot dogs and roller coasters and the last line of the verse was about fucking" - - you just get the sense that grilling cheeseburgers actually is as important to Juggalo Island as smoking spliffs with cops.

I feel the exact opposite of that. In fact, I wish the next video wouldn't even include ICP themselves, just juggalos. And no ICP music either. Just interviews with them, maybe a tour of their house in Hazel Park. That'd be my favorite ICP video ever.

I think the pelican line is great, of course, but "Crows, ghosts, the midnight coast, the wonders of the world, mysteries the most!" gets my vote because... ghosts? Also, there is a matching ghost in the video, which makes it even better. And then also, crows? Of all of the miraculous birds out there, he picked crows?
