Some pretty incredible numbers for Tigers rookie pitcher Michael Fulmer over the past four starts: according to ESPN Stats and Info, Fulmer has an ERA of 0.32 ERA and 0.64 WHIP during that span. That ERA ranks as the best in MLB in that time frame (since May 21). Another interesting note from ESPN Stats crew: Fulmer three 17 of 22 first-pitch strikes (77%) tonight as opposed to 54% and 48% in pat two starts. So he's having to battle from behind less. Making things easier on himself.

Gose and McClendon got into a heated argument in the dugout during the first game of a doubleheader for the Toledo Mud Hens on Saturday. According to The Toledo Blade, the argument prompted McClendon to remove Gose from the lineup in the third inning, replacing him with pinch hitter Jeff McVaney.

The 25-year-old Gose, who began the season as the Tigers' starting center fielder, did not show up at the ballpark for Sunday's game after not being in the lineup for the second game Saturday. Gose's personal items were not in his locker room after the game Saturday, according to the Toledo Blade.

Tigers announce they've transferred Anthony Gose's minor league assignment from Toledo to Erie. He also served 3-day suspension over break.

As the radar gun readings climbed into the upper 90s Friday night at Comerica Park, it seemed as if Detroit Tigers starter Justin Verlander was throwing with more velocity than he had in some time.

Now there are stats to back it up.

ESPN Stats and Information said Verlander's average fastball in Friday night's 4-2 win over Kansas City was 95 mph, his best single-game average in the last three seasons.

The Royals swung at 17 fastballs up in the zone, whiffing 11 times.

Verlander now leads the majors with a 26 percent miss rate when throwing a fastball. He has also struck out 25.6 percent of batters faced in 2016, his highest rate since he won the Cy Young in 2011.

DETROIT -- It was a curious time for a bunt, with two men out and the bases loaded in the third inning.

When Detroit Tigers shortstop Andrew Romine laid the ball down in front of the plate, pitcher Peter Moylan quickly flipped it to the catcher for a force-out at home.

Was Romine instructed to bunt? Did someone miss a signal?

No and no, said manager Brad Ausmus.

"He just did that on his own," Ausmus said.

Why, particularly in that situation?

"You'd have to ask him," Ausmus said. "I can't say what he was thinking."

Romine chose not to say, either, declining to talk to media after the game.

Ha, right -- which sent St. Louis to Detroit and started what is now ELEVEN years of unfinished business.

Figured this team was good for 86-88 wins and a shot at the wild card. Given all the injuries, I'd say they overachieved.

Sorta too bad they won't play game 162 against Cleveland. Fulmer was due to start. Had he thrown 3.1 scoreless innings, he would have qualified and squeaked by Sanchez for the ERA title at 2.99.

Looks Verlander led the AL in Ks and WHIP. Wasn't expecting that.

Ausmus and the Tigers seem really thrilled with one another.
