It's appropriating the globalised capitalist commodified aesthetic (specifically of 1980s/90s East Asia, Japan) to mock the vacuity of its art products in order to create a criterion of the kind of society we live in today (the post-internet late capitalist bazaar)

http://beerontherug.bandcamp.com/

Post-internet is a term that is used to describe a new media art scene active in the past few years. The most important portal for such is Tumblr. These circles spawn visual new media art trash and microgenres like hypnagogic pop, seapunk and vaporwave, which is what you're listening to. Vaporwave is an aesthetic built around corporate culture glorification, 80's/90's early internet era and exploring the uncanny.

It's all very post-modern by nature, and is based on exploring alternative mediums and surreal ways of expression. Substance and the end result are valued over values like composition and production.

As there's a lot of pretty much identical music being produced. Then a bunch of stuff that sounds nothing like the rest but is kind of vaporwave-ish.

Constant revolutionising of production, uninterrupted disturbance of all social conditions, everlasting uncertainty and agitation distinguish the bourgeois epoch from all earlier ones. All fixed, fast-frozen relations, with their train of ancient and venerable prejudices and opinions, are swept away, all new-formed ones become antiquated before they can ossify. All that is solid melts into air, all that is holy is profaned, and man is at last compelled to face with sober senses his real conditions of life, and his relations with his kind.

i am not making music right now. haven't recorded anything since, hehe, sounds weird since it was another tech time and etc but i gave up recording stuff after reading a review of Sparklehorse – Good Morning Spider , in a time when reading was listening for broke ppl. ehhe. it had nothing to do with what i was doing, eh, it was more like ariel pink's impression of charlotte gainsbourg weird stuff. i was disturbing myself. before that i had a few dat of intl. quality noise tracks still lying somewhere. plus i have a show of late gov.alpha in there too. lots of space on those DATs. i made some images recently in a pains style, and have downloaded audacity so who knows.

a lot of the vapor stuff feels so transient and inconsequential which i imagine is by design but leaves me feeling very unfulfilled after long listening session - like i've just been sold a timeshare that doesn't exist

Mordy, Monday, 28 January 2013 05:55 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, and if some artists feels more "hook" generous" it must be a particularity from the listener's point of view but overall you are right. it's a monotonous rumination that is timely and i particularly like that it has a certain rebellious philosophy at heart. it is with self-awareness that it creates a space where certain concepts can be made to be used for the next "genre".

Sébastien, Monday, 28 January 2013 06:14 (eleven years ago) link

i must add : i am interested in listener generated perceptions of hooks and also i am drunk : apology of an unfaithful culture consumerist

fuck off with this forced bullshit
http://metro-ko.tumblr.com/#41223466804

Christ this is so pretentious.

You guys notice shit like Vaporwave,
Chillwave, Seapunk and other stupid trends that come and go and try to hop on by making up some bullshit new genre.

There are already dozens of bands that make droney type music that fits this "aesthetic", but you faggots don't even care about that. It's like Witch House, album art, pretentious naming and the "lifestyle" of the music comes before the actual music.

You are no better than those kids who start a band and don't actually write any songs.

and yeah, this is gimmicky as fuck, but there's definitely potential in the music if people stop rushing effortless shit out.

The problem is that the music is an afterthought. The people who post in these threads clearly just want to be relevant and if the genre did get big (and then die out very quickly like all these genres) they could say "I was part of that". Music should be made because you feel right making it and natural, not because you have to fit into some requirements that some guy on /mu/ told you it has to be.

That is true, but I imagine people will calm down and spend more time and effort on their tracks soon. Just here in the beginning people are eager to try, and want to get stuff out as quickly as possible.

*********
nobody even knows what metro-ko is

right now it's just "vaguely city feeling electronic music"
****************** That made me think of a thread i have saw recently-ish, that i thought i had saved, about city driving electronic music feel or something... basically it was about techno. can't find the keywords to find it. ilx enhanced suite.

the way i see it, the genre will die out as fast as vaporwave does unless somebody makes an extremely creative well thought out and interesting album that actually evokes emotion. i'd actually be interested in hearing something like that.

Sébastien, I like the deep ambient trash angle you’re working w/ this mix, which curates a smidgeon of modernist avant functionalism to its post-everything pallet - is this where the purists bail f/ a more sternly ironic grade of po-faced plasticism that negates even stoner jouissance? (ambient almost by definition suffused w/ humanist ethos aka choking solemnity, though noize is technically ambient if still insufficiently profane).

feel like Eno, w/ parallel ambient/pop/no-wave tinkering casts a long shadow, which in itself is antithetical to v’wave’s crack binge of f5 hermaneutics, but some shit ambient deluxe from Alec Empire never hurts:

Sweet: http://youtu.be/QLqYN1oZ8go
Limited 05: http://youtu.be/_uEMpmuJ6nI
It Should Be You Not Me: http://youtu.be/36U--ieVc10

^^^
AE always delivers irony, but his trash traffics heavily in fetishized urban decay authenticity, granted, certainly not enuff Miami Vice keys + prob. at root oppositional to cutthroat chase of perpetually receding cathexis. (proto-v'wave excursion implodes epiphany, carry on).

i have to admit i was kind of thrilled to find this stuff, such brazen, consummate, overwhelming kitsch. this is what i wanted chillwave to be before it all just turned into indie. i think there's a core of numbness pulling at vaporwave which separates it from more blissful&beautiful [or sinister&dark] ambient or the triumph of far side virtual. there are hints of a subaqueous logic that might tie it all together, but a lot of these guys seem like loop monomaniacs & it's not helping them

don't know this guy but
"Whether we're pushing our shopping cart through a retail store or sitting at an office desk laboring for a salary, somebody up there wants us to work harder, spend more money, and be a more productive cylinder in the engine of commerce. Might there be a simple way to get people to be more energetic, more creative, more generous; simply by manipulating their environment through something as simple as music? It has certainly been tried, and sold to the world's largest businesses. Commonly called by the name of its most recognizable vendor, muzak has long been the subject of scrutiny, science, and pseudoscience. Today we're going to see what it can do and what it can't."

I don't remember being this nostalgic when I was this young.... but maybe I was and have just forgotten?

Dominique, Friday, 15 April 2016 16:00 (eight years ago) link

is that sampled from something?

ejemplo (crüt), Friday, 15 April 2016 16:06 (eight years ago) link

seems like it would have to be. apparently, the crowd ambiance is actually field recordings by the producer, but not sure if music is too, or he found it elsewhere. If it was actually music he made and produced, that would actually raise this stuff to something pretty cool, like the bassist stuff posted above, but with ambient filtering

can't stop playing the bit 1:05 into the first track on Floral Shoppe where the sax solo comes in and just immediately gets all distended and out of tune. it really makes me laugh.

A good vaporwave album is ライフMIDI - VIRTUAL REALITY '97 「PLATINUM EDITION」 - can listen to the whole thing here

nice. i must point out that *ahem* it's deaths dynamic shroud.wmv :)

would like to gently rebuke treeship's point that vaporwave "was" rather than "still is". the straight up eccojam phase is over, i guess, but a healthy output of excellent ambient/illbient/ "derivative products" exists. (see dream catalogue, for ex)

and there seems to be an array of (mostly useless) EXTREME eccojams where recordings are slowed to the point where it just sounds like muffled garbage trucks

love vektroid's Sacred Tapestry release, it's a bit of a harbinger to this extreme sound https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3bxhofufFg

http://www.zero-books.net/books/babbling-corpse

In the age of global capitalism, vaporwave celebrates and undermines the electronic ghosts haunting the nostalgia industry.
Ours is a time of ghosts in machines, killing meaning and exposing the gaps inherent in the electronic media that pervade our lives. Vaporwave is an infant musical micro-genre that foregrounds the horror of electronic media's ability to appear - as media theorist Jeffrey Sconce terms it - "haunted."
Experimental musicians such as INTERNET CLUB and MACINTOSH PLUS manipulate Muzak and commercial music to undermine the commodification of nostalgia in the age of global capitalism while accentuating the uncanny properties of electronic music production.
Babbling Corpse reveals vaporwave's many intersections with politics, media theory, and our present fascination with uncanny, co(s)mic horror. The book is aimed at those interested in global capitalism's effect on art, musical raids on mainstream "indie" and popular music, and anyone intrigued by the changing relationship between art and commerce.

tried out dds.wmv's I'll Try Living Like This and I thought it was great. Vaporwave is oftentimes such an empty promise and there's just so much of it out there, but this album (on first listen) feels like the real deal, freaked me the hell out in a few spots (and it samples Susumu Hirasawa, and therefore automatically gets my thumbs up)

Saint Pepsi - Hit Vibes is another good one. Sounds like what Daft Punk's RAM really should've been. Something you could actually play at a party, how about that?

Thus far my favorite vape thing is "Death 2 Snitches", a collab between Nmesh and Viper the Rapper, who is (you could argue) an originator of vaporwave. I guess it's not really a collab, Nmesh just paypalled the dude 35 bucks for a verse and then tweaked the hell out of it. Wound up not finishing it because Viper turned out to be a seriously strange and dishonest dude that he didn't want to be associated with. But the demo version still totally rules:

the Saint Pepsi sound seems to be the road taken for vaporwave artists not going full ambient (see also Android Apartment above), cf this comp from Future Society:

(curiously, Saint Pepsi artist himself seems to have gone into Neon Indian territory afterward...)

Nmesh - Dream Sequins is pretty cool. sounds like an early-90's Orb album but instead of going for obscurity with the samples he's trying to bring out forgotten memories from people born in the 80's...kinda freaked out hearing the Land Before Time advert in there. highly recommended (if you're into this kinda stuff) : Nmesh's massive Welcome to Warp Zone! mixtape, featuring 100+ tracks from 90's video games, plus snippets of dialogue, commercials, news reports, and I think even an original composition or two (plus, half a minute of "Horse With No Name" for no reason whatsoever). spans 4:20 (lol) but it's incredibly addictive - think Donkey Kong Country, Link to the Past, Earthbound...though I only recognize about a quarter of it. great stuff.

There's like 3 types of vaporwave - Eccojams (Chuck Person, Macintosh Plus), Sega Saturn Menu/Abandoned in the Hypermall/Weather Channel BGM (Laserdisc Visions, James Ferraro's Far Side Virtual), and Future Funk/Seapunk/Whatever the fuck (Saint Pepsi, Blank Banshee, most of what came out past 2012). People argue on Reddit a lot about it. Like IDM or Prog, most of the good vaporwave artists don't like being called vaporwave.

Can we say that being prolific might be a characteristic of this genre?

calstars, Wednesday, 24 August 2016 23:39 (seven years ago) link

It definitely can be -- telepath and his alias Virtual Dream Plaza has put 100 "albums" since 2013! Since most of this stuff is based on ambient drone and samples, I think it can be very easy to create (especially for kids w/a lot of free time and expendable/parental income). Not all artists are like this obv.

Dominique, Thursday, 25 August 2016 16:14 (seven years ago) link

the funny thing about Vektroid being so prolific and working under so many different aliases is that she practically singlehandedly made Vaporwave seem like it was a burgeoning genre with a bench of up and coming artists. when in reality is was just one person, who had only just turned 20 years old.

i find myself generally less interested in vaporwave than i am in the stuff vaporwave gets its inspiration from, particularly as a lot of vaporwave doesn't seem to actually do much with its source material. here's a good mix of '80s library music i've been enjoying recently:

xiphoid beetlebum (rushomancy), Monday, 7 November 2016 19:00 (seven years ago) link

IMO that's the punchline of the Macintosh Plus album - the source material is almost just as "vaporwave" as the album itself.

Been wondering about the 情報デスクVIRTUAL album; how much editing is done there exactly?

IMO that's the punchline of the Macintosh Plus album - the source material is almost just as "vaporwave" as the album itself.

yeah but on the other hand, i appreciate 'instrumental edits + dash of fx' stuff like the Computer Dreams album. can't really take most of the stuff that keeps the vocals (although a lot of it ends up sounding like lost Tears For Fears tracks which is kind of cool)

i read somewhere (maybe on this thread) that the 情報デスクVIRTUAL album is sourced entirely from some Sega Saturn game.

calstars, Wednesday, 28 December 2016 20:46 (seven years ago) link

yessss I love that track

that album really is to me the end-all-be-all of that particular aspect of vaporwave, it's so kitschy and kinda awful in some ways, then there are some moments of real beauty out of nowhere. and though I have no clue where any of it is sampled from, the notion that actual humans played this music seems weird to me, since it feels so dead inside.

frogbs, Wednesday, 28 December 2016 20:54 (seven years ago) link

Word. I can't help but wonder about the origins as I listen. It's just slightly distracting from my full enjoyment of the tracks. Auditory uncanny valley. Like the copyright on the source shit is so unknown that by all intents it now belongs to Ramona. She's a sonic squatter.

calstars, Wednesday, 28 December 2016 21:12 (seven years ago) link

Looks like Esprit is playing Shea in New York on the 15th. Any local vapor heads want to try to meet up and go?

calstars, Monday, 2 January 2017 22:14 (seven years ago) link

that would be awesome to go to - his live stream on twitch was really good, I've watched it several times

one thing I've come to love about this genre is how it evolves so quickly like those oddball meme groups on facebook, where stuff gets immediately run into the ground in amusing ways, with everyone trying to outdo each other all the time. I can't think of another genre that would produce something like this, for example.

frogbs, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 18:00 (seven years ago) link

mmm. i wonder to what extent eating oneself is merely an externalization of self-loathing, and am suspicious of the impulse.

thinking less would prolly be healthier :)

thing is i _can_ think of other genres that would produce something like blank goofee, because meow the jewels is a thing. and at least part of vaporwave's precis seems to be to expose the empty rotted heart of consumerism. sorry if i'm breaking kayfabe by talking about the tension between that and "for the lulz", but that tension exists and it's a lot of what drives vaporwave.

increasingly bonkers (rushomancy), Thursday, 5 January 2017 14:46 (seven years ago) link

well there you go. I'm sure the self-cannibalization is all over the place but I've not really seen any genre do this sort of thing to the extent vaporwave does. That Nmesh album ending with a vaporized remix of Fantano's infamous review of Floral Shoppe, for example. I feel like the genre is constantly fucking with people who take it too seriously, though most of its popular artists are obviously dedicating a big portion of their life to making it. It's like an entire genre where every artist is The Residents.

frogbs, Thursday, 5 January 2017 15:01 (seven years ago) link

i kind of hate "ha ha only serious" the way mormons hate bigamy. there's already a fascist offshoot of vaporwave- i think it's called "fashwave"- and I've seen this dialectic play out in so many forms before on the Internet. The fascists always win.

increasingly bonkers (rushomancy), Thursday, 5 January 2017 15:11 (seven years ago) link

guess I shouldn't be surprised. most of the vaporwave artists I follow on Twitter seem to be cool people, at least

frogbs, Thursday, 5 January 2017 15:30 (seven years ago) link

fashwave is an offshoot of synthwave not vaporwave, also it is just a couple of yokels on twitter, not much of a "thing"

I have mixed feelings about the vaporwave trend of building tracks out of slowed down samples of 80s hits. The Eyes Without A Face one is pretty good. The Born in the USA one, not so much.

yeah that's great too, but the stuff isn't supposed to be profound necessarily.. reminds me of the argument about how certain disco edits are "pointless" because they don't "add anything" to the original. good edits are usually about dancefloor functionalism not necessarily magical transformation (although it's great and interesting when that happens too).. similarly, the slowed-down 80s hits style is more about a kind of cheap "emotional functionalism" with context/respect getting ripped out/fucked with.. like it's besides the point that one could do these slow-down things on their own PC, the end product is just a product, the vaporwave creator/curator just happened to 'make' it but he's just the puppet in the 80s gods hands...

that probably doesn't make any sense, oh well

I think some of Vektroid's releases are completely unaltered muzak tunes, not sampled, not looped, just the original song. I don't have a problem with this though

I know this is an old post but I've been thinking about this a bit. I've been listening to the 情報デスクVIRTUAL album quite a bit lately and I decided to listen to the originals (you can find most of them on whosampled.com). They aren't completely unaltered - everything seems to be pitched down 15% or so, there are a few loops, and most of the tracks are excerpts - but for the most part she's just sampling easy listening and New Age records. It isn't even muzak or infomercial stuff, it's like...John Tesh and David Sanborn. The whole thing is like a brilliant prank, attempting to get kids who hang out on /mu/ or reddit digging the same shit they'd make fun of their moms for listening to.

(and yes, I dig the album too)

beautiful

fairly new record from one half of death's dynamic shroud.wmv
https://dreamcatalogue.bandcamp.com/album/flight
"The follow up to 2012’s ‘Honeybee’ on Orange Milk, ‘Flight’ is a return to Webster’s progressive rock past with new ideals he has learned from his explorations in dds.wmv, taking the guitar-based experimentalism of the former and integrating the twisted audio manipulation of the latter to create something unique for the artist. Conceptually, it arrives from a similar place as ‘Honeybee’ too, in that HCMJ uses the music as an outlet for his own internal anxieties."

also new on dream catalogue, & very different to the above, ends with an almost wolfgang voigt esque movement

Hosono's Coincidental Music is definitely a great example of proto-vapor. One of the cool things about following this scene is watching people discover this stuff organically who definitely wouldn't otherwise. I'm very amused that Pacific is starting to reach a new audience - not his best work, but still.

calstars, Wednesday, 21 February 2018 14:17 (six years ago) link

I remember searching around in vain to find out what "mindless" was sampled from - didn't know who George Clanton was obviously

there's something to be said about how rediscovering stuff you used to love 15-20 years ago through YouTube or downloading VGMs from games you had fond memories of never really quite captures the magic you used to feel. but this album (despite being mostly sample-free) actually seems to nail it. for example a track like "peter" - I remember a whole bunch of stuff sounding like that

apropos of nothing I'd like to share this thought: my 6 year old son is really into Mario Party for the Switch, so the other day I figured I'd YouTube some of those minigame compilations from the first few Mario Party games. I was stunned by how horrible they looked...I remembered them looking way better. In fact I remember when the N64 came out having the thought that video games had entered the final frontier, the graphics were about as good as they'd ever be (I was 10 so yeah I was pretty dumb). Anyway as I get older and watch the nostalgia cycle refresh itself every 10 years or so it's kind of interesting to see this whole era kinda get skipped. 80's aesthetics still look cool, because computer graphics were so simple back then, all straight lines and neon colors...like, when I saw Kraftwerk all their 'vintage' graphics still looked modern and neat. But the era I grew up with was messy and so aesthetically unpleasing...all jagged lines and misshapen bodies and backgrounds with way too much shit going on at once. Even the best and most advanced video games like Mario 64 were full of glitches, arms would just disappear and objects would just float into space. Nobody would ever try to "replicate" the look and feel of 90's computer animation. The whole computerworld outlined in The Matrix would never come back. It's too ugly. That's why I like vaporwave, because it actually does try to bring this stuff back to life: the idea of a "virtual" world that's so jagged and underdeveloped that nobody would ever want to spend time there as anything more than a gimmick. I watched one of those George Clanton streams and it occurred to me, he's got to be one of the only people on the planet making stuff like this today. It's uh...pretty neat.

frogbs, Tuesday, 2 March 2021 22:34 (three years ago) link

“it actually does try to bring this stuff back to life: the idea of a "virtual" world that's so jagged and underdeveloped that nobody would ever want to spend time there as anything more than a gimmick. “
Are you talking sonically or regarding the visual aesthetic?

calstars, Tuesday, 2 March 2021 23:30 (three years ago) link

mostly visually, particularly certain Vektroid covers and Esprit's virtua.zip, which very much has that broken Sega Saturn 2.5D look to it. that said I think the music imitates that as well - a lot of Clanton's stuff sounds like it's playing out of a 15" Hitachi TV and a bunch of artists purposely try to sample stuff commercials & movies that everyone else forgot about. I remember one of them talking about a compilation of early 90's commercials that someone had that wasn't on YouTube and how it was like a treasure trove for this kind of thing.

Evening disclosure has been leaching out the best possible vaporwave for a couple years now:

https://eveningdisclosure.bandcamp.com/

This is really top-shelf stuff, and I'm sure someone more familiar with the myriad of vaporwave subgenres could properly tag it but I can't.

Sassy Boutonnière (ledriver), Tuesday, 10 August 2021 05:07 (two years ago) link

You have a recommendation from the catalog?

ncxkd, Tuesday, 10 August 2021 08:08 (two years ago) link

There are three comps that are good, all variations on "alone this evening":

https://eveningdisclosure.bandcamp.com/album/all-alone-this-evening
https://eveningdisclosure.bandcamp.com/album/all-alone-again-this-evening
https://eveningdisclosure.bandcamp.com/album/still-all-alone-this-evening

Someone speculated that some or all of the names on the label are the same artist, but I don't know. The comps don't distinguish the artists in any case, just "various anonymous artist".

^ not exactly vaporwave (not exactly good either...)

am i the only one that thinks most vaporwave out there only exists for musicbros to speculate over? that would explain why most vaporwave albums are sold at ridiculous prices on discogs and other second hand marketplaces, and why most die hard vaporwave fans in [current year] aren’t really into other music genres. so much for the capitalism critique or whatever.

like a buddy of mine has a vaporwave vinyl he bought for 30 bucks or something and right now it’s selling for +200 USD on discogs lol.

marblesurf, Monday, 20 September 2021 11:58 (two years ago) link

that's why I like the 100% Electronica label, they do a real good job keeping stuff available. tbf it's hard to blame anyone in particular for this happening (outside of the scalpers of course), not only is there a huge delay in manufacturing vinyl right now it's pretty much impossible to know how many copies anything is gonna sell these days

frogbs, Monday, 20 September 2021 13:23 (two years ago) link

i also like 100% electronica, but vaporwave albums being sold at insane prices isn’t really a new thing and has been going on at least since beer on the rug. i don’t know why vaporwave in particular is so affected by scalpers.

side note: can you imagine a world where seapunk won over vaporwave in the internet-genre-wars? that’s a timeline i’d like living in.

VAPORWAVES NOT DEAD

unknown or illegal user (doo rag), Monday, 28 March 2022 00:50 (two years ago) link

was vaporwave inspired by mark fisher's notions of hauntology and capitalist realism or did it just grow out of the earlier music fisher was writing about? it seems very much an uncanny revisiting of an earlier moment of capitalism -- a false utopia or missed opportunity

been getting into "News at 11" by 猫 シ Corp lately. it's a 9/11 themed album, albeit in the most vaporwavey way possible - most of the samples are from the news broadcasts that aired right before the first plane hit. the McDonalds commercial you hear in it was apparently the one that was cut in to. but you never hear 9/11 referenced, so it's either an alternate universe where 9/11 never happened, or one where it did but you just don't know it yet. it's a pretty cool achievement, there's nothing particularly creepy about any of this but in context it's very unsettling. I mean America as we knew it had just ended

Corp markets the heck out of that album now and then (picture discs!) and it’s always rubbed me the wrong way that he makes money off such a sad day.

In other Vapor news this weekend the nmesh / dream catalogue fight over royalty payments got really hot really fast

calstars, Sunday, 25 September 2022 19:24 (one year ago) link

Like, I don’t need to relive 9/11 through an elaborate prism of Vapor. Corp is Dutch I think so there’s something to be said for the “outsider” perspective and presentation. But yeah personally not something I would ever put on as entertainment.

Not judging anyone who enjoys it of course. Always happy to have some Vapor discourse on ilx

calstars, Sunday, 25 September 2022 19:43 (one year ago) link

if it's exploitative it's at least exploitative in a pretty interesting way, given it never really references the thing it's exploiting. I'm not sure if I particularly "enjoy" it but given the events of the last 5-6 years and knowing how it all kinda spurned from what happened there it does really hit a certain spot

dunno anything about the Nmesh/Dream Catalogue thing but Nmesh always seemed like a stand up dude and the guy who runs DC is kind of a dick

speaking of Nmesh here's 34 minute video featuring a bunch of the samples from Dream Sequins. wonder if whoever made this was in contact with him cuz otherwise idk how you'd manage to find all this stuff.

A lot of fans spend time tracking down samples. Check out the deciphering lists on RYM.

the stuff that appears on an album or a movie I understand, it's the ones that sample 40 year old commercials & interviews that probably only aired once that really impress me. one would think some of that stuff was just lost to time forever.

found the latest blank banshee record a bit meh - maybe a bit too idm for me
otoh new dan mason album is sounding great

nxd, Friday, 20 October 2023 09:29 (six months ago) link

Dan Mason is about as “vaporwave” as Charli XCX at this point. He uses katakana next to his name tho so…

calstars, Friday, 20 October 2023 12:03 (six months ago) link

oooh yeah new Dan Mason is cool, maybe the artwork is leading me but it definitely scratches a very specific itch

think 'vaporwave' as we know it is dead but it has splintered off into a half-dozen subgenres all of which I think are way more interesting than like, Chuck Person and Floral Shoppe
