New York Jets @ Dallas Cowboys -
This looks like a huge trap game for the Jets.
― earlnash, Thursday, 17 December 2015 00:36 (eight years ago) link
It will be interesting to see if the Colts give it up against Texas or come to play after getting totally spanked by Jville last week. I think that coaching staff is dead man walking either way and it will be interesting to see if the players just fold up and look forward to the season ending.
Carolina Panthers @ New York Giants
I don't think the Giants are any great shakes, but damn this looks like a serious trap game too. Giants need the win more than Carolina. This might be Tom C.'s last stand.
Denver Broncos @ Pittsburgh Steelers
This one looks to be came of the week. Pittsburgh seems to finally be ringing on all cylinders. Still got 3 games to go though, so this could change again.
This is a big game for the Bengals. They go lay a dukker out in Sanfran and the little shot anyone still gives them going to the playoffs becomes bigger laughter. San Fran seems to be playing better and won a couple ugly games. I'm definitely curious to see how McCarron does with this shot.

NaVaro Bowman doesn't know that this game doesn't count. I swear he has been on almost every defensive play for the Niners in this game against the Bengals. Good to see he recovered from that injury.
Game is closer than you would think but Niners receivers keep doing volleyball sets for the Bengals defense to get turnovers.
Cam Newton is a freak of nature, the guy might be the best athlete I have ever seen at QB. He is like a bigger stronger version of Randall Cunningham.

The thing I am kind of impressed is Washington hasn't been a grease fire in the football media other than about the name, I guess winning does fix some stuff. Kirk Cousin's stat line and performance is definitely made Gruden's decision last year to look pretty smart.
I wonder how much Washington can get for Griffin III? You got to think someone is going to take that challenge on. Total guess, but I think they might be able to get a 3rd or 4th rounder for him.

Newton is a really good QB and athletically amazing, but he scares me as he just takes a whole lot of hits. Seen them play a bit the past month and Cam gets clobbered at least 3-6 times good a game.

It's not just that the Ravens beat the Steelers, that happens, it's that the Ravens with Ryan Mallet starting at QB beat them. Pittsburgh's offense had been chewing up people the past month and they laid a big egg. They are going to finish 10-6 and out of the playoffs.
Weird weekend with Mallet winning in B-more and then his former team the Texans winning with Weeden having a big game against Tennessee (and Weeeden started the year with Dallas). That is some odd revolving door backup QB information.

Let’s put some context on Kelly’s first three seasons as head coach of the Eagles: He is the first Eagles head coach since the Swamp Fox — Marion Campbell — who failed to advance a round in the playoffs in his first three years. And Campbell coached in the mid-1980s.Buddy Ryan won the NFC East and got a first-round bye in his third year. Rich Kotite won a wild-card game in his second year. Ray Rhodes won a wild-card game in his first year. And Andy Reid got to the conference semifinals in his second year and an NFC Championship Game in his third year.Kelly has less to show for his first three years than any Eagles head coach in 30 years. That’s pitiful.

It will likely take a near-miracle for Indy to pull off one of the most complicated Week 17 clinching scenarios in the history of the league and steal the division crown from the first-place Houston Texans. In order for the Colts to win the AFC South at 8-8, they first need to create a tie atop the division by beating the Titans and have the Texans lose to the Jaguars, triggering the NFL's intricate tiebreaking process.
The two teams would be tied in the first four set of tiebreakers -- head-to-head, division record, conference record and common opponents record. The Colts would then have to forge a tie in the fifth tiebreaker (strength of victory, or the combined record of the teams you beat), and then win the sixth tiebreaker (strength of schedule).
To complete that ridiculous scenario, Indy needs seven more games to break right, not including the obvious results of the Texans losing and the Colts winning their Week 17 contests. Here's the rundown:
Steelers beat BrownsBroncos beat ChargersFalcons beat SaintsBills beat JetsDolphins beat PatriotsRavens beat BengalsRaiders beat Chiefs
Of course, the Colts' first order of business is to win the game against Tennessee, and that's no guarantee given their dire quarterback situation. Andrew Luck and Matt Hasselbeck have already been ruled out of Sunday's game, and Charlie Whitehurst just landed on injured reserve. That means the team has to chose between the uninspiring trio of Josh Freeman, Stephen Morris and Ryan Lindley to start this pivotal game.

was wondering when ryan lindley would find his way back into the public eye after last year's extended shaming in arizona

Packers are in a weird situation, either win and play vs. Seattle or Minnesota, or lose and play vs. Washington, obviously they'll be playing at full speed at home for the NFC North crown vs. a division rival but part of me is hoping they lose
― frogbs, Saturday, 2 January 2016 05:37 (eight years ago) link
id def consider resting starters

this entire season will have been worth it if the jets blow their playoff spot by losing to rex in the final game of the season
pats are brutal. kind of wish jets bills was on instead.

― Roberto Spiralli, Sunday, 3 January 2016 23:31 (eight years ago) link
the only thing that could redeem this year's AFC playoffs for me is the return of peyton's noodle throws in subzero weather
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 3 January 2016 23:32 (eight years ago) link
i guess the plan is now peyton is the starter again, just like that? what if he plays a subpar half of football, are they going to bench him again? is there a plan or are they going to have constant uncertainty going into playoffs
― arts and crafts THIS GUY (daria-g), Sunday, 3 January 2016 23:37 (eight years ago) link
because i mean if peyton is the starter and was healthy enough to play all along why didn't he start the game
wild end to the raiders game, rly hoped they'd pull it out on KC but oh well

*to stand
no worries there. I get why the Packers would try to win because getting Minnesota at home is probably preferable to going to Washington, but if you're Minnesota you definitely would want to play the Packers again rather than having to face Seattle. they should've punted the game. not that it didn't seem like they were trying.

― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 4 January 2016 19:40 (eight years ago) link
it kinda did look like minn were trying to throw that game away 4Q. when peterson spilled that ball forward on their last possession i was like REALLY?? except for how hard he tried, successfully, to recover.
i know small sample sizes etc but seattle exact same record home/road this season and they stomped the vikes in MN judt a few weeks back, so home field maybe not as much consolation to that tie as they might hope
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 4 January 2016 19:44 (eight years ago) link
I kind of don't see how any team other than Seattle or Carolina makes it out of the NFC
― you're breaking the NAP (DJP), Monday, 4 January 2016 19:46 (eight years ago) link
cards?
― Mordy, Monday, 4 January 2016 19:49 (eight years ago) link
yeah before yesterday I definitely thought Arizona were #1 in the NFC but now I'm not so sure
GB has been real depressing to watch this season, despite their 10-6 record it really feels like they are one of the worst offenses in the league sometimes. I've never been on the "fire McCarthy" bandwagon but watching him continue to establish the run in the 4th quarter while down by 17 was infuriating
― frogbs, Monday, 4 January 2016 19:54 (eight years ago) link
i didn't watch the arizona game yesterday... they didn't sit starters?
― Mordy, Monday, 4 January 2016 19:56 (eight years ago) link
Peterson's fumble was totally Bridgewater's fault; it's hard to secure a handoff that's delivered to your thigh.

mostly agree w this. would be real interested to see carolina play this healthy arizona team (rather than the lindley version they got last wildcard round). still think panthers would win tho, and based on how wilson has looked in the 2nd half of the season idk who can really fuck with a fully operational seahawks

I'll miss Coughlin, and I really can't see another team anywhere giving the wheel to a 70 year old head coach. He's probably coached his last NFL game. ;_;
