Chiefs, Steelers, Hawks, Pack btw

Does that make you mutter, under your breath, “Damn”? (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 5 January 2016 20:07 (eight years ago) link

chiefs, toss-up*, squawks, pack

*only if dalton is back AND doesn't become Playoff Dalton, if it's mccarron steelermen def take that game

metro slothrop want some more (slothroprhymes), Tuesday, 5 January 2016 20:10 (eight years ago) link

all of these seem close, except for seattle/vikes sadly. kcc/texans has got to be a low scorer which honestly might favour houston. idk it is hard to rule out the chiefs the way they have been galloping thru the back half of this season. bengals are surely doomed to lose vs steelers which will be a real bummer if it happens. and i suppose green bay has to win, however off they look right now. wash have been winning games but all against pretty crappy teams when you look at it. if there is going to be a "surprise" in the round it would be that game tho.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 5 January 2016 20:43 (eight years ago) link

the only legit SURPRISE outcome for me would be if the seahawks didn't win

Does that make you mutter, under your breath, “Damn”? (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 5 January 2016 20:44 (eight years ago) link

seattles tear thru the last ~6 wks or so hasn't been against the best teams really. winning @ min and @ az were both legit over by like each 2nd qtr which is a bit fluky tho of course blowing out a playoff team is undoubtedly impressive. credit where credit is due for taking care of biz when its a league where u can lose to anyone but idk i wouldn't be shocked if minny won, their d is p good

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 5 January 2016 20:57 (eight years ago) link

is marshawn playing?

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 5 January 2016 20:57 (eight years ago) link

he just started full practices apparently, so i'd assume so - who knows how effective he'll be tho. lacking rawls as a 2nd option at RB is definitely a loss for seattle

metro slothrop want some more (slothroprhymes), Tuesday, 5 January 2016 21:00 (eight years ago) link

pack is terrible, Rodgers looks like he wants this season to end, has to be some injury to explain his problems (beyond his supporting cast).

by the light of the burning Citroën, Tuesday, 5 January 2016 21:04 (eight years ago) link

j.cru i hope you're right that it is more of a contest. i don't put any stock in the AZ game because they were two very differently motivated teams at that point in the season but that was a beating in minnesota.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 5 January 2016 21:07 (eight years ago) link

Current lines:

Texans +3
Seattle +6.5 (started as +3.5!)
Green Bay +1

Pittsburgh/Cincinatti is off the board until Dalton's status is resolved

frogbs, Tuesday, 5 January 2016 21:33 (eight years ago) link

wait, I messed that up, Seattle is a 6.5 point favorite, not underdog

frogbs, Tuesday, 5 January 2016 21:34 (eight years ago) link

As for my predictions - I think Pittsburgh will destroy Cincinatti either way, GB will probably lose (I agree they're pretty terrible right now), and the Texans could legit score 0 points this game, though I can't imagine the Chiefs scoring more than 14 or so. I know it's too obvious to predict Seattle/Minnesota as a blowout based on their last game, but given how good Seattle's run defense is and how one-note Minnesota is I just don't see them putting up much of a fight. Bridgewater is gonna have to have the game of his life, and if Lynch is back he's gonna give that defense some problems.

frogbs, Tuesday, 5 January 2016 21:39 (eight years ago) link

This episode sounds like a scene out of a football version of "Semi-Pro". Hilarious, but you got to wonder what kind of club is really going to pony up real money for the dude. I think the guy keeps it up he could end up Kryptonite.

mccarron is not totally horrible, certainly he looks better than hoyer today, and not like he is replacing a HOF bound qb or anything, but have to feel for the bengals. after this reg season they deserve better out of the playoffs than not even competing.

that was just about the worst endgame that I can remember. that hit on Antonio Brown was scary, you can see Brown's eyes roll back in his head as he was going to the ground.

7 or 8 personal fouls in that game depending on if you want to count the facemask which is more of a regular penalty imo

it's really sour grapes on behalf of Cincy fans, who should have more issues with the anemic offense, Hill's fumble, Cincy's inability to keep its head, and the moronic penalty against Brown, but...Joey Porter really shouldn't have been on the field, either (and apparently is about to get fined for it).

the "it lost us the game" doofuses have apparently forgotten that Pittsburgh was already in field goal range at that point (albeit a 49 yardish).

feel crushed for my friend who is a Bengals fan, as I was just about to submit a 'congrats' when the fumble happened.

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Sunday, 10 January 2016 18:33 (eight years ago) link

why was the holder having such a hard time turining the laces out today? bizarre.

call all destroyer, Sunday, 10 January 2016 21:04 (eight years ago) link

really strange

So is this going to be the worst playoffs of all time? I'm not sure any of these teams know how to play.

i can't really call myself an expert on field goal kicking mechanics, but are out-ward facing laces really that crucial a condition for kicking a 27-yard field goal?

k3vin k., Sunday, 10 January 2016 21:15 (eight years ago) link

like don't australian people drop the ball on the ground before they kick it and manage to kick it relatively straight?

k3vin k., Sunday, 10 January 2016 21:15 (eight years ago) link

maybe i'm thinking of some other sport

k3vin k., Sunday, 10 January 2016 21:16 (eight years ago) link

@jayfeely was tweeting about the laces & how it affects kicking all game, it's p interesting

arts and crafts THIS GUY (daria-g), Sunday, 10 January 2016 21:17 (eight years ago) link

australian ppl do do that

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 January 2016 21:18 (eight years ago) link

agree that the laces are a red herring guy just missed a gimme

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 January 2016 21:18 (eight years ago) link

i mean i understand that the laces facing outward is preferable. but you'd think that these professionals would have some sort of backup plan when things don't go as planned

k3vin k., Sunday, 10 January 2016 21:19 (eight years ago) link

he was prob nervous to start with then saw the laces and just yanked it.

call all destroyer, Sunday, 10 January 2016 21:20 (eight years ago) link

laces prob had nothing to do w it

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 January 2016 21:21 (eight years ago) link

sometimes kickers miss 27 yard field goals

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 January 2016 21:21 (eight years ago) link

ok

call all destroyer, Sunday, 10 January 2016 21:27 (eight years ago) link

ok to you buddy

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 January 2016 21:35 (eight years ago) link

I think kickers have a terror of laces facing them and when they see laces, they panic, which causes them to miss, which reinforces their terror of laces facing them.

man you would think that having just been knocked out of the playoffs for being a shower of assholes would give the bengals an opportunity for self reflection but no they are just all calling joey porter out instead. embarrassing.

yeah I mean he should be fined for sure but j christ it isn't like the Bengals are the first time to ever be instigated, better teams just know how to keep their heads together and move along.

so much had to happen to collapse - but this was their Sistine Chapel of meltdowns
