You might remember us from a few little tunes. Tubeway Army, that were us. We did, y'know, 'Cars'. And, uh, 'We Are Glass'. Do you remember 'We Are Glass'?

If you're wondering, I've been flying me planes. I like me planes, you see. Do you remember "I Die: You Die"? That were us. It was a tune, it were a hit.

Do you believe in God? I don't. I think it's a rotten lie. I don't like the religions, you see. What proof have they got? They got none, y'know. Do you remember "I, Assassin"? That were us, it was quite the album.

Not a fan of the tumbleweeds, we are. Not a fan of the deserts really. I like to fly me plane in a more temperate climates. I like that. I like the autumns, you know. Nice crisp air to fly me planes in. Dingbod, have you listened to "We Are Glass"? That was a tune, that were us. It was quite the tune. I'd think you'd like it. Let me know if you do. We got more tunes in the iPod. I got one in me plane.

as long as you can retrieve the ipod from this wreckage

I see what you did there. That were clever, that was. I'll tell the wife, she'll have a laugh. We like the jokes, us. Not if it's hurtful, mind. Not a fan of those jokes. That's why I wrote "I Die: You Die". It was quite the tune, it were popular back in the day.

Gary Numan, Thursday, 7 May 2009 11:21 (fourteen years ago) link

didn't the dooleys cover it on 3-2-1?

Dingbod Kesterson, Thursday, 7 May 2009 11:24 (fourteen years ago) link

Now, you're taking the mickey a bit. You're a bit like them music papers back in the day. We weren't a fan of the music papers, no. Full of trade unionists they were. I don't want them after my money and me planes and me Corvette. Do you remember "I Dream of Wires"? They made the jokes about that. That weren't very nice but we have the plane, so in the end they weren't laughing as the wife keeps telling us.

as this month marks the 30th anniversary of thatcher's accession to power, do you plan to vote conservative at the next general election because it's "time for a change"?

Gary, I've always wondered - do you feel you got a fair shake from the music press when you first came on the scene with your synthesizer-heavy music?

worm? lol (J0hn D.), Thursday, 7 May 2009 13:04 (fourteen years ago) link

Dingbod - I was speaking to the wife about that. She says it's like us when we did the albums. Thatcher was like "The Pleasure Principle". David Cameron is like "Warriors".

John D - We came out with the synths on heavy and the like. The music press was all in the punk and the like. They were thinking that I was, y'know, bringing prog into the punk. I don't think that was fair at all. We were New Wave and all. We were still on the guitar and the like, through. But y'know, they were scared of the future and all that.

three months pass...

Oooh hello, this is Gary Numan here, broadcasting from Alpha Centuri. That's right, the wife and I and the children, have taken my spaceship (I got it with the "Are 'Friends' Elctric" money, it were quite a bit) to go on an interstellar tour. The aliens, they understand my music. Especially "We Are Glass". If you have any of the questions, please let us know. I am always happy to answer.

Hello Gary Numan,

Thank you for letting the Sugababes use your classic tune here because it's awesome:

That is all.

Also, Adina Howard.

E - thank you for posting and the kind words. I appreciate that, I really do. I don't appreciate stealing my music. Not a fan. No, I don't like it. It's stealing. They just don't want to put the effort in these people, they're just like the trade unionists in the day. Those Sugababes, I didn't let them use my music. They stole it. I asked the wife what we could do and she said not to worry, we would get the money. Now, I like money and I purchased myself a telescope with it (so I could see my alien friends when they come by) but I am not happy. I think they must vote Labour. Just like the writers in your music press.
