He's...well, it's always hard to tell whether he's ready or not.

http://i.imgur.com/22hi9ko.jpg?1

He's...look, it's complicated, right?

Ligue 1 is back! PSG drew their first game with Reims, despite Ibra scoring his first two of the season. Monaco, with an excellent new manager in place but without James, Falcao (currently) and Riviere, are trailing at home to Lorient.

Will Luiz prove good value for his £50m? Will Marseille pip Monaco to second place? Who will play so well they'll end up facing Arsenal Tula and Torpedo Moscow next season, instead of Lyon and Rennes? Who will be Clermont's next female manager at the start of September? All will be revealed.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Sunday, 10 August 2014 20:10 (nine years ago) link

The Beast is being readied.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Sunday, 10 August 2014 20:17 (nine years ago) link

Prince Albert storming off, shaking his head. Kurzawa was good for Monaco but they looked sluggish throughout. Carvalho was awful and ended up getting sent off, Falcao scored a penalty and Lavignie got a winner for Lorient on the break. Lecomte excellent in goal for Lorient.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Sunday, 10 August 2014 20:58 (nine years ago) link

Abdennour concedes a second penalty in a week and Monaco trail again, 2-1 vs Bordeaux. Falcao on for the last half an hour.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Sunday, 17 August 2014 20:23 (nine years ago) link

Not quite as dramatic as Brandao breaking Motta's nose in the tunnel after the PSG / Bastia match though.

3-1 now!

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Sunday, 17 August 2014 20:25 (nine years ago) link

Danijel Subašić takes over on penalty concession duties. 4-1. Monaco look awful.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Sunday, 17 August 2014 20:35 (nine years ago) link

so happy about monaco (and OM) situation on this season debut... especially when we don't even need to have thiago silva and zlatan with a pastore at this level : ligue 1 is back, yay !

AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 18 August 2014 11:36 (nine years ago) link

Danijel Subašić takes over on penalty concession duties.

And again. Saved it though. Monaco have conceded four penalties in three games. Just seem to go into panic mode.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Sunday, 24 August 2014 19:29 (nine years ago) link

yeah, that's pretty impressive !
also funny their bus had a problem on the way so they all arrived by taxi !
thank god monaco are mediocre for now because Paris was awful against evian : cavani useless (he wanted zlatan's place but since he's had it, at the end of last season and now, he's done nothing), pastore a ghost (but he was on the wing, bad decision since he was great in the middle. hope he won't fade away for the rest of the season, until his usual goal in quarter finals of the CL !), cabaye stupid red card (I still don't understand the point of this guy. in Paris or national team...), aurier reminded me of bernard mendy (which is a bad thing of course !) and digne, who I really like usually, didn't bring anything...
only small satisfaction, our defence wasn't too bad (luiz, sirigu and especially marquinhos).
A game to forget (but somehow, it's always the case against evian... mystery !).

AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 25 August 2014 11:51 (nine years ago) link

Yes, couldn't really tell whether it was just that they looked aimless without Zlatan or whether it was the Evian jinx striking again.

Lyon looked pretty bad vs Lens too.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Monday, 25 August 2014 11:53 (nine years ago) link

yeah, lyon get worse and worse each year : there are no good/well known players left in this team !
the glory of the 00s is VERY far... I don't particularly like them but have never hated them either, even at their most obnoxious. It's just a bit sad... I hate their president though !

AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 25 August 2014 12:10 (nine years ago) link

regarding Paris, some people may think the team plays better without Zlatan (because he monopolizes the ball, etc) but the fact is clear : 80% wins with him, 40% without...

AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 25 August 2014 12:12 (nine years ago) link

To prove the point, Zlatan back in the team, scores three, Paris 5-0 up vs St Etienne.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Sunday, 31 August 2014 20:33 (nine years ago) link

PSV got Nicolas Isimat-Mirin from Monaco on loan. Is he any good? Anyone even heard of him?

ambient yacht god (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 1 September 2014 10:31 (nine years ago) link

He hasn't really played for Monaco but he had two fairly active seasons for Valenciennes. I've not seen him play but he was quite highly rated before his move.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Monday, 1 September 2014 11:13 (nine years ago) link

I see, 79 games for Valenciennes. That's not bad experience wise for such a young player. Our whole defense is ultra young anyway, so he'll be one of the most experienced. Thanks!

ambient yacht god (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 1 September 2014 11:15 (nine years ago) link

Monaco are such a joke with all their stars leaving after just 1 season... and the other joke was St Etienne's gk yesterday (and still he was lucky because he should have got a red card + penalty) !

AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 1 September 2014 15:58 (nine years ago) link

Is Monaco the western Anzhi? Spending outrageously, and a couple of years later letting all top players leave.

ambient yacht god (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 1 September 2014 16:13 (nine years ago) link

ManU paying € 15 million just to loan Falcao for a year though. Is that the most expensive loan ever? Shit's cray.

ambient yacht god (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 1 September 2014 16:14 (nine years ago) link

funny thing is that falcao leaves a team that plays the championsleague for a team that doesn't... I would have understood if it had been Real Madrid but Man U...

AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 1 September 2014 16:23 (nine years ago) link

he joined Monaco when they weren't in the CL. He's also only played one season in the CL in his career. Maybe he doesn't care?

Number None, Monday, 1 September 2014 16:28 (nine years ago) link

maybe he just doesn't like flying

ambient yacht god (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 1 September 2014 16:30 (nine years ago) link

I've been formulating a crazy theory over the last few years that wanting to play in the Champions League might just be a thing players say to justify moving for more money

Number None, Monday, 1 September 2014 16:30 (nine years ago) link

but if it's not for "football" reasons, frankly who would want to leave in manchester instead of monaco ?? (and I doubt he gets a bigger salary in ManU than in Monaco).

AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 1 September 2014 16:48 (nine years ago) link

eheh "to live in manchester".

AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 1 September 2014 16:48 (nine years ago) link

two months pass...

Marseille with a late rally vs Bordeaux to go back to the top. Lyon still in touch and Nantes not far behind. Now PSG are hitting their stride you'd think they'll dominate but it's looking exciting for the moment.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Sunday, 23 November 2014 21:54 (nine years ago) link

i was quite impressed with the number of familiar highly-rated names in the french u21 squad the other week

and then u look and see that modibo maiga has 4 in 8 in the ligue

Frey is Buddhist (Soka Gakkai), and credited former Fiorentina legend Roberto Baggio as one of his spiritual mentors.[12]

somewhat implausibly, psg's annual revenue is only fractionally less than barcelona's, good work with those hard-won sponsorships

Marseille cruising 2-0 at home vs Caen with 25 minutes to go. Caen won 3-2.

Bielsa teams in the 2nd half of the season :(

Happy for Jibe that OL are doing so well, Lacazette back and Fekir looking sweet. Like Anthony Lopez in goal as well.

Also nice to see ex Dortmund striker Lucas Barrios freed from China and starting to play well since the winter break.

Noticed Bastia have been on a tear since they got rid of Makelele.

OM two down at home to Lorient within 15 minutes, equalise, Lorient score immediately, equalise again Lorient score two. 3-5 with Ayew getting two for Lorient.

Ethnically Ambiguous / 28 - 45 (ShariVari), Friday, 24 April 2015 20:20 (nine years ago) link

A week behind but finally watched Lyon's 2-2 draw with St Etienne, could be the 2 ponts dropped that costs them the title cos they should have been 3 or 4 up before they eventually got the opener then quickly proceeded to concede a penalty (converted) and had a man sent off. Was a really great performance and Fekir was again outstanding.

pandemic, Saturday, 25 April 2015 06:20 (nine years ago) link

Eheh so good to watch OM sink... Since their defeat at home against Paris !
No champions league for them next season !
I hope Paris will take the leader seat back this afternoon (and that OL will lose !)

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 25 April 2015 09:24 (nine years ago) link

6-1 Paris. Boom ! Goal average difference with Lyon reduced to -2 in one game. Smooth

how the fuck did rennes afford €21m on an unproven brazilian winger in 2000? reminiscent of denilson to betis

They bought this guy in the same week for €12m as well.

Never great when Wikipedia lists your spell at a club as 2001-2003, Games:? Goals:?

answer they are owned by the son of francois pinault, this presumably being the reason why he hasn't been so spendthift lately

ridsdale perhaps the more apt comparison

Rennes a finalement doublé l’offre. Ce n’était pas ma faute.

Having lost Payet, Thauvin, Imbula, Gignac, Ayew, Morel and Fanni in addition to Bielsa it's surprising Marseille can field a full team but they are trouncing Troyes 4-0 atm.

Lassana Diarra, who has been without a club since last summer, scored the terrific second one.

disgusting goals

finally watched the weekend's highlights. ooh fekir!!! The other chaps goal was laughably good as well.

pandemic, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 10:51 (eight years ago) link

finally beating Monaco for the first time in ligue 1 in like 8 years was pretty sweet for PSG (and 3-0 in their stadium even better !).
after 4 games, Paris has 4 wins, 7 goals for, 0 against.
nice season start !

AlXTC from Paris, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 11:18 (eight years ago) link

psg were so dominant vs monaco, could have had 5 or 6 goals tbh. Ibra looked good and Matuidi was immense, again!.

pandemic, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 11:21 (eight years ago) link

yeah, Matuidi keeps improving, that's quite amazing. at some point someone dribbled through 3 guys and I thought it was Marco or something be it was Blaise !
great start for Di Maria too. fantastic passing for Lavezzi.

AlXTC from Paris, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 11:24 (eight years ago) link

six months pass...

PSG will be champions in about an hour and half, with eight games to go. Would have won earlier had they turned up in the last two league games.

Marseille are substantially worse this season, as are St Etienne, arguably. Lyon, who are the second best team in the league on form, are 32 points behind. Monaco will probably finish second but have shipped out most of their better players and rely on a creaking Vagner Love for goals. There have been some interesting cameos from teams like Angers and Caen this season but it is evidence of the weakness of the league rather than any real depth. It is difficult to see how things can go on as they are but idk what could possibly change things.

On a Raqqa tip (ShariVari), Sunday, 13 March 2016 13:31 (eight years ago) link

Currently seven nil up away from home with over half an hour to play. Zlatan just scored a ten minute hat trick.
