On The Back Cover WIth An Animal

My lovely wife recently pointed out that I seem to have developed a habit of buying records which feature the artist on the back cover with some kind of animal. So this is a thread for examples of that very thing.

No front covers please! Although I don't really care, if I've had to forego posting Buck Owens and Susan Raye with a dirty great horse, so should you. But I'd love to see more.

I've had a leaf through my country section to start this off, which seemed likely to provide the richest pickins. I have to start at the top of the shop really, Skeeter Davis on the phone, underneath her pet ocelot. Ocelot.

I'm going to add a few more to start off, including a two-for-one featuring Moe Bandy! On the back of "Bandy the Rodeo Clown" there is a picture of a cow's arse:

A few years later (and with a different record company), up pops another shot from the session, and what I strongly suspect is the same cow. What a thrifty fellow!

("Bandy The Rodeo Clown" is a particularly good LP, by the way.)

I can't think of a single good reason why Barbara Mandrell shouldn't be cuddling a St Bernard puppy for a cheapo mid-career best-of.

One more for now because I have to go and pick a record up from the post office. You may not be able to tell from the photo, but Rod McKuen's cat has two different coloured eyes, like a furry David Bowie.

Nice!

Jimmy Martin was impressed enough with his dog Ol' Pete (and himself I suppose) to name his LP "Me And Ol' Pete"

There's a suggestion that Ole Pete co-write the sleevenotes but I don't believe it.

Anyway, this horse looks well unimpressed with Trini Lopez. It should be delighted.

Rob Galbraith was the subject of brief discussion on the Rolling Country thread recently. Here he is with a friend who's half-dog half-meerkat:

You're the Amazing Rhythm Aces and you've decided to call your LP "Toucan Do It". Is having the scrawny toucan on your shoulder a prize or a forfeit?

David Matthews is not really with the hippo here but IT STILL COUNTS. One should always buy an LP with a version of "California Dreaming" on it, imo.

Tim, Saturday, 3 March 2012 09:55 (twelve years ago) link

Seems like there's kind of a trope here -- look cool or badass on the front, but then the candid with the animal on the back shows that you're human and have a laid back side.

That's probably true, though in the case of that David Matthews lp it's true for the hippo not the muso: http://www.karmamusicrecords.gr/wp-content/uploads/KARMAMUSIC.KJ22099.jpg
