1. I thought the Hatto fraud story was sad because dude did it to salvage the reputation of his cancer-wracked wife, hello.
2. Didn't the creator of Arrested Development work on Golden Girls for a long time?

remember when this used to be my gmail status indicator:

[Sophia enters kitchen]
Dorothy: You couldn't sleep either, huh?
Sophia: No, I'm sleeping so good I thought I'd come try it in the sink.

also, i've decided to shave my head bald and will henceforth be applying pipecleaners to my skull in lieu of hair.

OMG you're right, that's where Mitchell Hurwitz got his start. Maybe the comparison is not so outlandish, then.

only one of those things disappointed me. GUESS WHICH ONE.

I'm sorry I'm a stubborn idiot.

remember when this used to be my gmail status indicator:

Totally. The best thing about GG is Sophia's sarcastic retorts.

That's his side of the story, but apparently he's been convicted of fraud before. The man's a charlatan, from what I understand, and the fact he's using his dying wife as his excuse is, like, 2000x more slimy.

OTOH, she was a willing participant, apparently, and was exacting some kind of revenge on the record industry that she was unable to break into? Something like that.

I do think it's funny that classical music aficionados got their leg piddled on.

re GGs, I had no idea so many of you were secretly gay.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 22:13 (seventeen years ago) link

It should be a movie starring Jim Broadbent and Judi Dench. INSTANT OSCAR.

n/a, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 22:13 (seventeen years ago) link

awesome xpost

n/a, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 22:14 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't think Jesse is particularly secretive about it, and Kenan and I have both owned up to gayish tendencies. That only leaves Kevin.

jaymc, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 22:15 (seventeen years ago) link

gay or got a hard-on for septugenarians?

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 22:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Agreed, but they should play it as farce, with Broadbent filled with as much avaricious glee as Max Bialystock.

I went to a free lunch thing today where we talked to labor and employment attorneys and I learned that I am doing everything right re: finding a job. So right, in fact, that I should actually have a job now. But I don't. Or even a lead on a job.

I am totally going to write "Jenny, Esq" on the paper tablecloths when I greet my tables at the Macaroni Grill.

Jenny, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 23:20 (seventeen years ago) link

JOHN I will give you the secret link if you promise to complain more about the CTA.

Jenny, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 23:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Holy shit it smells like baked potatoes in here and I am one hungry individual.

Will somebody text Jeff and tell him to check his email? I left my phone at home and want to ride home with him.

Jenny, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 23:23 (seventeen years ago) link

God, the train was SO late this morning? And so crowded! I am shaking my fist in anger and demanding that Frank Kruesi does something about this!

jaymc, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 23:34 (seventeen years ago) link

That was very good! Except that I left about four minutes before you posted that. And then went to dinner.

Man, I ruined everything. John has lost all faith in the system now!

I just learned something. I'd always heard that Wicker Park was called Wicker Park because of something having to do with the furniture district there. I wondered a bit why there'd be some glut of wicker furniture in Chicago, but I never particularly thought it through. Now I'm enormously reassured to learn it got the name from a couple guys named Wicker. That makes a lot more sense.

nabisco, Thursday, 1 March 2007 02:30 (seventeen years ago) link

and here i thought it was because the entire neighborhood was purchased from Pier 1.

SHUT UP I DIDN'T THINK IT THROUGH

nabisco, Thursday, 1 March 2007 02:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Thirsty Friday. I kind of may have a second date that night, and I'm wondering what it means that I'd rather go to Soundbar with you kids. I think I know what it means.

Wow. Thundersnow is one of my favorite things about living up North. In Michigan we had lake effect snow with lightning and thunder, which is a treat; seeing the big wet flakes of snow light up is awesome.

I am not making up the term thundersnow, btw--I first heard it used on the weather forecast in MI.

Jesse, Thursday, 1 March 2007 12:16 (seventeen years ago) link

This morning Brenda leaps onto the bed carrying something in her mouth, which she lays down and starts playing with. It was a plastic fork. Then I get up and find another plastic fork in my bed, plus a soy sauce packet on the floor by the foot of the bed.

I ordered Chinese yesterday, but I thought I put all the soy sauce away and threw away the forks. I think this was a failed attempt at gaslighting me--"Why is this fork in my bed?" She probably also is responsible for that pint glass upright under the middle of the bed too.

Jesse, Thursday, 1 March 2007 12:30 (seventeen years ago) link

we used to get "thundersnow" in massachusetts too, usually late in the season when warm air would shoot up from the gulf and the montreal express would barrel into town at the same time. i loved it because winter always lost those battles. once there's thunder winter's days are numbered.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 14:20 (seventeen years ago) link

I have never experienced thundersnow. It makes me think of the Thundercats theme song.

KitCat, Thursday, 1 March 2007 14:34 (seventeen years ago) link

It would be a good name for a cocaine-themed hard rock band.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 14:43 (seventeen years ago) link

anyway, i watched the gram parsons biography last weekend and if i ever think things are maybe a little out of control i can rest assured that things can always get a lot more out of control. but then again i've already outlived gp by 8 years. also, i did not know he was a trust funder. he had some awesome clothes, i'll tell you that.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 14:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Are there any good shows this weekend? I have been slacking on my New Year's resolution to go to more shows.

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 14:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Hmm, a salute to Silkworm at EB on Sat. night, but with a bunch of acts I've never heard of.

Thundersnow sounds like the next Nic Cage movie.

So no one's been to the House Theater?

tombot is there a way to bring back replacing images with a link? or will that verboten like the persistent cookies? cause that's one feature i really miss. that and the xpost notification.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:10 (seventeen years ago) link

sarah, if you guys go you may either want to get their early or get tix before hand because i heard it will sell out. there will be tix at the door though.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:11 (seventeen years ago) link

i never knew what that building (311 s. wacker) was! it looks awesome at dusk when i get off the blue line at western/congress because the sky is a deep blue behind it and that top turret piece is milkglass or something and it's illuminated at night. it's pretty cool.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:14 (seventeen years ago) link

I like 311 S Wacker. I would never think to design a skyscraper that is pink and has a birthday cake on top. How festive!

kenan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:17 (seventeen years ago) link
