JOHN I will give you the secret link if you promise to complain more about the CTA.

Holy shit it smells like baked potatoes in here and I am one hungry individual.

Will somebody text Jeff and tell him to check his email? I left my phone at home and want to ride home with him.

Jenny, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 23:23 (seventeen years ago) link

God, the train was SO late this morning? And so crowded! I am shaking my fist in anger and demanding that Frank Kruesi does something about this!

jaymc, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 23:34 (seventeen years ago) link

That was very good! Except that I left about four minutes before you posted that. And then went to dinner.

Man, I ruined everything. John has lost all faith in the system now!

I just learned something. I'd always heard that Wicker Park was called Wicker Park because of something having to do with the furniture district there. I wondered a bit why there'd be some glut of wicker furniture in Chicago, but I never particularly thought it through. Now I'm enormously reassured to learn it got the name from a couple guys named Wicker. That makes a lot more sense.

nabisco, Thursday, 1 March 2007 02:30 (seventeen years ago) link

and here i thought it was because the entire neighborhood was purchased from Pier 1.

kenan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 02:38 (seventeen years ago) link

SHUT UP I DIDN'T THINK IT THROUGH

nabisco, Thursday, 1 March 2007 02:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Thirsty Friday. I kind of may have a second date that night, and I'm wondering what it means that I'd rather go to Soundbar with you kids. I think I know what it means.

Jesse, Thursday, 1 March 2007 05:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Wow. Thundersnow is one of my favorite things about living up North. In Michigan we had lake effect snow with lightning and thunder, which is a treat; seeing the big wet flakes of snow light up is awesome.

I am not making up the term thundersnow, btw--I first heard it used on the weather forecast in MI.

Jesse, Thursday, 1 March 2007 12:16 (seventeen years ago) link

This morning Brenda leaps onto the bed carrying something in her mouth, which she lays down and starts playing with. It was a plastic fork. Then I get up and find another plastic fork in my bed, plus a soy sauce packet on the floor by the foot of the bed.

I ordered Chinese yesterday, but I thought I put all the soy sauce away and threw away the forks. I think this was a failed attempt at gaslighting me--"Why is this fork in my bed?" She probably also is responsible for that pint glass upright under the middle of the bed too.

Jesse, Thursday, 1 March 2007 12:30 (seventeen years ago) link

we used to get "thundersnow" in massachusetts too, usually late in the season when warm air would shoot up from the gulf and the montreal express would barrel into town at the same time. i loved it because winter always lost those battles. once there's thunder winter's days are numbered.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 14:20 (seventeen years ago) link

I have never experienced thundersnow. It makes me think of the Thundercats theme song.

KitCat, Thursday, 1 March 2007 14:34 (seventeen years ago) link

It would be a good name for a cocaine-themed hard rock band.

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 14:39 (seventeen years ago) link

HI DERE

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 14:43 (seventeen years ago) link

anyway, i watched the gram parsons biography last weekend and if i ever think things are maybe a little out of control i can rest assured that things can always get a lot more out of control. but then again i've already outlived gp by 8 years. also, i did not know he was a trust funder. he had some awesome clothes, i'll tell you that.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 14:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Are there any good shows this weekend? I have been slacking on my New Year's resolution to go to more shows.

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 14:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Hmm, a salute to Silkworm at EB on Sat. night, but with a bunch of acts I've never heard of.

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 14:53 (seventeen years ago) link

saturday at sub-t busy signals/gito gito hustler/moto/river city tanlines. sunday at the bottle cococoma/reigning sound.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 14:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Thundersnow sounds like the next Nic Cage movie.

So no one's been to the House Theater?

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:02 (seventeen years ago) link

TOMBOT, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:06 (seventeen years ago) link

"311 South Wacker" is my fave

TOMBOT, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:06 (seventeen years ago) link

Hi, Tom!

I wanna go to the Reigning S0und/C0c0c0c0c0c0c0c0c0c0 show!

KitCat, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:09 (seventeen years ago) link

tombot is there a way to bring back replacing images with a link? or will that verboten like the persistent cookies? cause that's one feature i really miss. that and the xpost notification.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:10 (seventeen years ago) link

sarah, if you guys go you may either want to get their early or get tix before hand because i heard it will sell out. there will be tix at the door though.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:11 (seventeen years ago) link

i never knew what that building (311 s. wacker) was! it looks awesome at dusk when i get off the blue line at western/congress because the sky is a deep blue behind it and that top turret piece is milkglass or something and it's illuminated at night. it's pretty cool.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:14 (seventeen years ago) link

I like 311 S Wacker. I would never think to design a skyscraper that is pink and has a birthday cake on top. How festive!

kenan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:17 (seventeen years ago) link

The Sat. Sub-T show sounds fun.

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:19 (seventeen years ago) link

it will be!

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:20 (seventeen years ago) link

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:26 (seventeen years ago) link

I want to go.

Laurel, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:29 (seventeen years ago) link

didn't you get kicked in the face the last time you saw moto? and you'll be seeing the busy signals LATER THIS MONTH(!).

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:32 (seventeen years ago) link

from someone whose musical tastes i respect: I got a sneak preview of some new Gito Gito Hustler material, and I think they might just kill everyone on Saturday.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Dude, it was the Snipers who kicked me and I went to their show last weekend! I'm resilient like that.

Laurel, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Last night I dreamed that I was making a lobster appetizer for a PTA meeting I was attending. I was putting raw lobster on skewers, but I had forgotten to kill the lobster first. I kept taking it apart, and it was making little noises. I felt terrible. Then I cracked open its carapace and killed it. All of this took place in the plants and flowers section of a grocery store.

Jesse, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:38 (seventeen years ago) link

hey, and i didn't realize gito gito hustler will be playing the radio heartbeat thing too! the last show of their tour is the first night of the fest.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:39 (seventeen years ago) link

I have never experienced thundersnow. It makes me think of the Thundercats theme song.

What about last night at around 3 AM? The thunder was weird-sounding, at least to my sleepy mind. It sounded like radio sound effects--like a sheet of metal being shaken.

Jesse, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:40 (seventeen years ago) link

i woke me up then the sleet or hail or whatever the fuck was going on out there started coming down and i kind of drifted in and out of sleep until my alarm clock went off. at which time i fell dead asleep.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:42 (seventeen years ago) link

i woke me up? it (the thunder) woke me up.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:42 (seventeen years ago) link

It woke me up just enough to think, "Hey, thunderstorm! Cool!" And then roll over and continue to sleep like the dead.

kenan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Haha, I was just thinking of M.O.T.O. the other day when someone quoted that mid-90s dance hit "When I dip you dip we dip" because it always reminds me of M.O.T.O.'s "I do the dip when there's cum on the dancefloor."

jaymc, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:47 (seventeen years ago) link

Whoa, it's totally March, isn't it? I think I might have a birthday party on Saturday the 24th. Save the date, etc.

jaymc, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:48 (seventeen years ago) link

It's TOTALLY March.

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:51 (seventeen years ago) link

i think i just realized i have a birthday party to go to saturday. : (

i'll see if anyone else is skipping it to go to the show or maybe heading over after, i don't want to be the only dick who does.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:51 (seventeen years ago) link

it's me mum's birthday. She's 53.

kenan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Aw, she was but a babe when she had you.

jaymc, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:57 (seventeen years ago) link

indeed. 20 yrs old.

kenan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Ha ha, John said Kenan's mom is a babe.

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Awkward.

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Literally, a babe. There are pictures, right?
