DO IT. Especially if you're still rockin' the 'stache.

The Reptoids practice, or used to practice, in the same building where we practice. Their fliers are very bland and ubiquitous in our neighborhood. I have not heard them. But they seem like they might be cool.

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:27 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah the reptoids are a local hard rock band. and flyering machines but their flyers are always the same so i never know if it's a new show or a show that happened 2 months ago.

dan- stache went away a week ago ;_;

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Thx. The 0ptimistic is playing a show with them tomorrow night.

+ the show got a nice write up in the Onion

- the show is in the basement of a pizza place

+++ the show is in the basement of a pizza place!

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:29 (seventeen years ago) link

duh

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:29 (seventeen years ago) link

I will be sure to dress like Corin from Nashville Pussy.

KitCat, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:29 (seventeen years ago) link

I wish pizza places were the default rock show venue instead of bars.

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:29 (seventeen years ago) link

I'd rather come home smelling like tomato sauce and grease than shitty beer and cigarettes.

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:30 (seventeen years ago) link

I mentioned our Soudbar expedition to my roomie, who said his boss had gone off on the place when she went there (under similar circumstances to our own):

"it's like bad mix of cocaine, calvin klein, and sad old man desperately clinging to their 20s"

AWESOME

dan m, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:30 (seventeen years ago) link

No mention of "no jeans" on the soundbar page so I think I am in the clear.

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:30 (seventeen years ago) link

i wish in order to have an entertainment license you also had to have a pizza license. can't have one w/o the other. that would be awesome.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Good point Nick, but I'm trying to keep my expectations low because if I don't get free pizza I will be crushed. :(

Jordan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. The only decent pairs of slacks/dress pants that I have are in dire need of dry cleaning and there isn't time.

dan m, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:32 (seventeen years ago) link

I'M ACTUALLY HOPING I DON'T GO TO MILWAUKEE NOW.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:32 (seventeen years ago) link

(xpost to Nick)

dan m, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:32 (seventeen years ago) link

If you do get free pizza you should replace all your cymbals with pizza pies.

A few years ago I was in Gr@mmaphone Records and talked to a friendly gal who works there and is a DJ and invited me to kind of an end-of-summer industry night where she was 'sprinning' -- the promoter rented out this sports bar in one of those big ugly office buildings near Ogden/Ashland, and a bunch of DJs were doing there thing and there were brats and beer, and everyone I talked to was friendly and down-to-earth, maybe because they're DJs and not the clientele.

Flash-foward a year or two later, and see that she's DJ-ing at Soundbar and that if you sign up for the club's mailing list admission was free. So I signed up, and I get these promo e-mails that I scan and delete, and then earlier this week I got one saying that the first 20 people to reply get a VIP package worth $500. So I say what the hey, reply, a guy from the club calls, and it's set up.

The one other time I saw that DJ do her job was upstairs at Schubas last fall - and somehow there was free beer there. I'm thinking What's the catch, and the only catch is that someone wants to promote something by giving away free beer.

Eazy, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:33 (seventeen years ago) link

and play drums with your face

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:33 (seventeen years ago) link

worst sounding hi hat ever.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:33 (seventeen years ago) link

what if you use frozen pizza?

the only thing they will be promoting to me is that they are giving away free beer.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I can play and eat pizza at the same time, do not doubt me.

Jordan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:34 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh man, my roomie's on the ball, I would invite him along but he'll never ever come...

chach3e: man, you have to bring a camera and make a slide show, dr. martin style
chach3e: like you're visiting a secluded tribe in Papua New Guinea

dan m, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:35 (seventeen years ago) link

nick's onto something jordan, thing how much better tearing down will be.

ewwww, but then there's a whole new meaning to "loading out".

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:35 (seventeen years ago) link

Breadsticks >>> drumsticks

Jordan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:37 (seventeen years ago) link

I saw a photo of a bunch of dudes outside of Soundbar, and they were all wearing jeans. Fancy jeans, maybe, but jeans.

I just hope the dress code doesn't exempt styes, because I've still got an ugly little one on my left eyelid.

Eazy, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Is there a dress code for outside of Soundbar?

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:39 (seventeen years ago) link

yep.

kenan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:39 (seventeen years ago) link

What time are you guys getting there? I REALLY don't want to be the first one.

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:41 (seventeen years ago) link

If I had a really fancy club, I would say there's a dress code but I wouldn't say what it was, and then when people asked me what the dress code was, I'd look really confused and say, "I can't tell you ... it's a code."

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:42 (seventeen years ago) link

And if it is somehow unbearable, we can always go over to the Green Door Tavern and pay for drinks.

I'm planning to get there right around 9. Would Thai food beforehand make sense? That place at...LaSalle and Chicago?

Eazy, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:42 (seventeen years ago) link

And Lindsay and Geoff (who were at the last TTs) are going, as well as Sarah G. (who's been at the house parties here and such) and I think Rachel J. of the K-Zoo mafia.

Eazy, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:44 (seventeen years ago) link

I think it sounds fun to get food first. Then we can arrive en masse.

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:44 (seventeen years ago) link

WE ROLL HARD, WE ROLL DEEP. CHILX WHAT

Did anyone tell Deej about this? Having never met him I'm not sure, but this kind of sounds like something he'd be into, mabye?

dan m, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:46 (seventeen years ago) link

man, all you gotta do is say "free drinks" and suddenly we got a fuggin army

kenan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:49 (seventeen years ago) link

First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

kenan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:49 (seventeen years ago) link

after looking at the pictures this sounds like a good idea because those photos may have counteracted the lure of free booze.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:50 (seventeen years ago) link

We could meet up at Panang - 800 N. Clark - maybe 7:45?

Good idea, I'll e-mail him.

jaymc, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, getting Thai food with you people makes a whole lot more sense than going all the way up to Uptown for it first.

jaymc, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:51 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm tempted to faux-hawk myself and dress as bro-tastic as possible to see how well I can blend in. Wait, what am I saying.

dan m, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:52 (seventeen years ago) link

ooooh good idea dan! FAKE TANS FOR EVERYONE!!!

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:53 (seventeen years ago) link

I probably am going to get a haircut tomorrow, but I was planning to anyways.

n/a, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:53 (seventeen years ago) link

will there be a paler group than us?

COULD THERE BE a paler group than us?

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:54 (seventeen years ago) link

We all need fake business cards.

Eazy, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:56 (seventeen years ago) link

I need to listen to some Lifter Puller to psych myself up for this.

dan m, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:57 (seventeen years ago) link

I'll be Eric Piven (yo, my brother Jeremy told me to check out this place), and I'm just chilling here with Nick Schwimmer. Our bros are tight.

Eazy, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:57 (seventeen years ago) link

remember the fake atm receipts? so when some bro is in a club and wants to give a girl his number he pulls out the fakie with some inflated balance on it and writes it on the back knowing full well she'll turn it over and see what he's got in the bank?

those were both awesome and sad.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Apparently, orange is the preferred color there. I'll be sure to eat lots of carrots tomorrow.
