I need to listen to some Lifter Puller to psych myself up for this.

dan m, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:57 (seventeen years ago) link

I'll be Eric Piven (yo, my brother Jeremy told me to check out this place), and I'm just chilling here with Nick Schwimmer. Our bros are tight.

Eazy, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:57 (seventeen years ago) link

remember the fake atm receipts? so when some bro is in a club and wants to give a girl his number he pulls out the fakie with some inflated balance on it and writes it on the back knowing full well she'll turn it over and see what he's got in the bank?

those were both awesome and sad.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Apparently, orange is the preferred color there. I'll be sure to eat lots of carrots tomorrow.

I had a job over winter break of my sophomore year of college, in which I had access to a lamination machine, so naturally I made up business-style name-tags for all of my suitemates, as though our dorm room ("Crissey 6") was a corporation.

jaymc, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:58 (seventeen years ago) link

I've never heard of those, Kevin - fantastic.

Eazy, Thursday, 1 March 2007 19:59 (seventeen years ago) link

It's been a long week at the office and it's time to blow off a little steam! I am a Junior Vice President! I have business cards that say "Junior Vice President" on them! They're glossy and magnificent! Here! Have one! Take it!

kenan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 20:00 (seventeen years ago) link

it was the go go '90s, a different era when any given schmuck COULD actually have a ton of bank.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 20:00 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm thinking now I'd look slightly more natural in a Romy & Michelle outfit than a Corin outfit...

KitCat, Thursday, 1 March 2007 20:01 (seventeen years ago) link

I STILL HAVE BUISNESS CARDS WITH MY VP TITLE ON THEM!!!!

holy fuck i'm totally digging those up.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 20:01 (seventeen years ago) link

My card just says "web designer" but that's no good. It may as well say "dude who thinks he's pretty special but is kind of a dime a dozen and his job is pretty boring and he mostly posts on an internet message board all day." Not exactly going to dampen any undies.

kenan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 20:09 (seventeen years ago) link

My card says "drums".

Jordan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 20:10 (seventeen years ago) link

this was the only press release i could find with me on it and it has a different title:

Release date: July 24, 2000

Quantum Solid State Disk Joins Forces with RAID™'s Cobra 3 Enterprise
To Expedite Front End System Performance

Milpitas, CA Quantum Corporation (NMS:QNTM), the leader in high-performance solid state disk (SSD) storage solutions for the NT and UNIX server marketplace, announced today that its SSD technology has been integrated with the RAID™ Cobra3 Enterprise product line. The united result is a resilient data storage system with significant amounts of cache memory, which dramatically improves system performance within e-commerce and high transaction infrastructures.

Quantum's SSD is made from computer memory (dynamic RAM), which delivers instantaneous information at > 9,000 transactions per second. The Cobra3 Enterprise is a direct connect, high availability, high performance disk array that provides superior performance and connectivity suited for mission critical network and storage environments.

Quantum's SSD has been integrated into the Cobra3 Enterprise as a front-end caching device for hotfiles and databases. With the addition of Quantum's SSD, the Cobra3 Enterprise configuration will now offer more than thirty times its previous capacity, increasing it from 1 GB to 32 GB.

According to Charlie Cassidy, Quantum's vice president of the Solid Sate Business Unit, "In today's competitive marketplace, our SSD delivers the system performance boost demanded by e-Business applications. The partnership with RAID™'s Cobra3 Enterprise is a unique opportunity to leverage the strength of two complementary technologies to provide a faster performance solution." Quantum's SSD adds significant amounts of cache memory to Cobra3 Enterprise's existing configuration, which facilitates increased application performance.

Kevin Rys, RAID™'s Chief Technology Officer said, "Cobra3 Enterprise's high storage density coupled with the accelerated response time provided by Quantum's SSD will afford users of the Cobra3 Enterprise a solid competitive advantage. Our target markets of this product line are the most demanding transactional environments, including the financial and e-commerce industries where high volume transactions and storage solutions are critical."

The RAID™ Cobra3 Enterprise with Intellicache has been shipping since June.

About Quantum

Founded in 1980, Quantum Corporation - http://web.archive.org/web/20041214103927/http://www.quantum.com/ - is the world's leading storage supplier in six of the seven markets it serves: desktop hard disk drives, tape drives, network attached storage (NAS) appliances, solid state systems and hard disk drives for the emerging personal video recorder (PVR) market and DLT tape automation systems. Quantum is also a leading supplier of high-end hard disk drives. In 1999 Quantum became the first Silicon Valley company to issue tracking stock, replacing its existing common stock with the ticker symbols DSS and HDD, which tracks the separate performance of the company¹s DLT and Storage Systems and Hard Disk Drive businesses. Both stocks are traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Selling its products through OEM and distribution channels worldwide, sales for the fiscal year ending March 2000 were $1.4 billion for Quantum¹s DLT and Storage Systems Group and $3.3 billion for Quantum¹s Hard Disk Drive Group.

note: i never uttered a word for this and in fact was in texas when this deal went down. we'd usually have whomever we were jumping into bed with (quantum in this case) write the press release themselves then attribute quotes later.

They really captured your voice and rhythms in that quote.

Eazy, Thursday, 1 March 2007 20:17 (seventeen years ago) link

That's too bad because I was picturing you in a board room saying that while pointing at charts and graphs with a laser pointer.

dan m, Thursday, 1 March 2007 20:18 (seventeen years ago) link

That PR firm doesn't like commas or compound-modifer hyphens, do they?

Eazy, Thursday, 1 March 2007 20:19 (seventeen years ago) link

i had an office overlooking a river where there were red tail hawks, perigrin falcons, and a bald eagle all fed. there were egrets and ducks and geese and a family of herons. i just went back to the website and they moved to the technology section of the business park where my optomotrist and primary care physician used to have offices.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 20:20 (seventeen years ago) link

You were so official!

Laurel, Thursday, 1 March 2007 20:24 (seventeen years ago) link

this was where my office was: the building along the river, not along the roadway. in the summer we'd go up onto the roof and drink beer, it was on a hill and you could see most of the valley from there.

Note: I want to go to a yarn store. The end.

Also, you people are making going to a horrible place like that place where you are going actually sound like fun. I still don't think I have the emotional stamina for it.

Jenny, Thursday, 1 March 2007 20:46 (seventeen years ago) link

I got that Gmail error message last night, when our house network was super stressed due to massive downloading. I waited a while and it went away.

dan m, Thursday, 1 March 2007 20:46 (seventeen years ago) link

gmail, chicago thread both down for the count, there were no survivors.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 21:42 (seventeen years ago) link

kenan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 21:44 (seventeen years ago) link

hey dudes, dan's friend wrote this book. it's about office workers. you might enjoy it.

La Lechera, Thursday, 1 March 2007 21:58 (seventeen years ago) link

ps when threads die it's usually my fault. i have that effect. enviable, i know.

La Lechera, Thursday, 1 March 2007 22:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Gahrrrrr. I think I'm going to "break up" with my one date man. I know for sure he's not The One, and while it wouldn't be bad to date someone for a while--including fun dates to Mexico-- he is all kinds of pestering me. The real motivating factor in all this that I want to go out on Friday night, and he wants to go out with me.

Jesse, Thursday, 1 March 2007 22:07 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah, Jesse, it seems like kind of a waste of time if you'd already rather be hanging out with other people instead of him.

horseshoe, Thursday, 1 March 2007 22:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Today I reached in the fridge and had to make a choice: Diet Coke or beer? I absolutely NEVER drink in the afternoon, so I chose the beer, and am pleased, especially considering the shitty fucking weather I slogged through--my underwear is even wet.

Jesse, Thursday, 1 March 2007 22:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Amanda, we are the publisher for that!! Hurrah.

Laurel, Thursday, 1 March 2007 22:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes, Loobness, I agree. I'm sure that there is soooome element of my being pretty shy and afraid to get to know someone in this sort of setting, but I'm sure that it's not just that, and not *mostly* that.

Jesse, Thursday, 1 March 2007 22:10 (seventeen years ago) link

Probably better to do it sooner rather than after a Mexican love voyage, that's what I always say.

Jordan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 22:11 (seventeen years ago) link

If it was someone I really was into, his behavior I would not calling "pestering" at all. I would be quite pleased with the frequency of his calls, actually.

Jesse, Thursday, 1 March 2007 22:12 (seventeen years ago) link

are you shy? that's so cute!

horseshoe, Thursday, 1 March 2007 22:12 (seventeen years ago) link

I wish sometimes I could just go ahead and be really shallow and date somebody for the promise of travel and pretty baubles!

Jesse, Thursday, 1 March 2007 22:13 (seventeen years ago) link

No, he's not.

Jordan, Thursday, 1 March 2007 22:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Some might call it shy, others might think of it more as "emotionally unavailable" or "socially retarded."

Jesse, Thursday, 1 March 2007 22:15 (seventeen years ago) link

emotionally unavailable I totally get. who isn't emotionally unavailable? the smart money is on being emotionally unavailable.
