I don't give a shit what feminism is really. I was brought up by women and never had a central male figure in my life so I'm of the opinion that women are as capable and deserving of high paid jobs as men. I am more respectful towards women than men (perhaps because of my upbringing). I hate it when I see a woman not making the best of her appearance, because - really - the opposite sex is the most beautiful thing in the world.

I think, however, that girls who have decided it would be great imitate the very dregs of masculinity - drinking, footie, casual sex, acting like an arsehole - is unwise. It just makes me shake my head and it's a dumbass thing to aspire to.

That is fair enough, it is good that you have views on the best way women should act, and perhaps some of them will actually listen to what you say, and improve themselves to a standard you consider higher.

But, on the other hand, are drinking and casual sex, really that bad. I think they are really rather fun

rent out to me! rent out to me! haha sorry. i don't even know if i'll definitely be moving to edinburgh just yet but it's what i want to do.

Casual Sex, as I've explained many times, has 0% appeal to me. I'm a romantic and I'd sooner have no sex than casual sex.

How's my former colleague getting on in his new job?

leigh (leigh), Thursday, 8 January 2004 09:29 (twenty years ago) link

I don't know actually... been meaning to phone him, he left a message on new year's eve and sounded in good form though. I might have to go and visit him for a bit of peace and quiet! Do you know what his new job is? He just told me he'd moved....

reclusive hero (reclusive hero), Thursday, 8 January 2004 10:38 (twenty years ago) link

When i said new job i meant the one he started in late 2002, i think it was in a housing office in granton, last time i saw him was at our office xmas piss up in december 2002.

also I am going to THE EGG tonight apparently Edinburgh's top indie club is it good? do i need some arts student to sign me in or something? everything is so complicated here!

kathryn m (kathryn m), Saturday, 7 February 2004 17:41 (twenty years ago) link

Emma williams (Emma williams), Saturday, 7 February 2004 18:24 (twenty years ago) link

Any student should be able to get you in to The Egg, whether from the art college or not.

caitlin (caitlin), Saturday, 7 February 2004 19:06 (twenty years ago) link

I used to work at The Egg about 10 years ago.

Shot in the dark: is anyone either looking for a flat in Edinburgh, or know anyone who is?

I've decided I should get people to move into my spare bedrooms, to share the rent out a bit. If I find two people to move in, it will be £185 each, which I think is damn cheap for Edinburgh. So, if you know anyone who's looking, let me know.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 14 March 2004 12:14 (twenty years ago) link

i am possibly looking for a room, and my friend may be too! shall i email you? is that an address you can check?

kathryn m (kathryn m), Sunday, 14 March 2004 14:30 (twenty years ago) link

caitlin! I might be looking for a flat in edinburgh. but I won't need to move in until september and anyway it isn't confirmed yet. : /

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 14 March 2004 17:05 (twenty years ago) link

Ahh. I really need someone right away.

Kathryn: email me. The address I use here is a real one.

Revive!

Need local knowledge - hiring a car on Sunday in Edinburgh - most appear to be at the Airport - I know Hertz have a place in the City itself - any others? Any local companies that are good (as opposed to the global chains)?

list of places. I guess, the lower the #, after the EH, the closer to the centre of town (w/ waverley station hertz being EH1). a friend of my brother's used to work, at enterprise. he got good deals but maybe because he had a friend, that worked there.

Does anyone know if Extra Width's still running at the Southern Cross on Cockburn St?

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 13:58 (nineteen years ago) link

Yes I do, and no it isn't.

___ (___), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 14:02 (nineteen years ago) link

Has it moved somewhere else? I've not been since the gilded balloon burned down.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 14:07 (nineteen years ago) link

It stopped a fair while back - Stuart moved to London. He has since moved back, so maybe it will start up again. I'll ask Keiron next week.

___ (___), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 14:59 (nineteen years ago) link

Ah right, thanks for letting me know. Keiron caught me when i fainted at a teenage fanclub gig in 1991.

So rents are still horribly expensive? Not much better than the south of England?

Charles Dexter (Holey), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 12:49 (nineteen years ago) link

You won't get a one bedroom place for less than £350. the ones for £350-400 are pretty crappy and in awkward / crap parts of town. There's a big jump in quality for what you are able to get for your money if you are willing to share. £250 is the minimum for anything in a shared flat and, again, they will not be very nice. Where are you looking to stay?

[Am I allowed to plug the club thing that I am starting up this weekend in Edinburgh on here? I am slightly terrified that no-one is going to come.]

hmmm (hmmm), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:19 (nineteen years ago) link

I don't know where I'm looking to stay - don't really know Edinburgh too well. I was thinking that the further from London, the cheaper renting a flat would be. Obviously not. Is Glasgow similarly expensive? Maybe I should try Inverness.

Charles Dexter (Holey), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:45 (nineteen years ago) link

I think Glasgow is a bit better. I would try Poland.

So Keith and I were thinking about a December Edinburgh FAP. Would anyone be interested (are there any ILXors left in Edin. even?) or would it just be us sitting in a pub talking old bollocks about music again? (way to advertise, dude). (And asking this on a Friday means no-one will see the thread neither :-( )

alext (alext), Friday, 18 November 2005 10:22 (eighteen years ago) link

With December being mental for christmas get togethers and things I can't guarantee being able to turn up to one, but in principle I'd be interested.

Greig (treefell), Friday, 18 November 2005 11:21 (eighteen years ago) link

i'd come through for an edinFAP, aye. but: what greig said about xmas an' that.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 18 November 2005 11:47 (eighteen years ago) link

My December will not be mental for get-togethers and my better half will be on the other side of the world (literally) :-(

alext (alext), Friday, 18 November 2005 11:58 (eighteen years ago) link

I've got quite a few Christmas things on, but why change a winning formula?

KeefW (kmw), Monday, 21 November 2005 20:07 (eighteen years ago) link

Yes from me. Can we go to The Pond?

hmmm (hmmm), Monday, 21 November 2005 20:29 (eighteen years ago) link

which one's the pond? can't we go to the spider's web?

(nb: joke.)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 21 November 2005 20:36 (eighteen years ago) link

I'd like to go to the Pond. Never been there before though. It has a soft rock night I believe...

KeefW (kmw), Monday, 21 November 2005 21:23 (eighteen years ago) link

You missing here already, Neil?

KeefW (kmw), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 08:25 (eighteen years ago) link

I'll come, doesn't seem right that my only FAPs have been in London. Where's the Pond?

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 09:33 (eighteen years ago) link

I may be available for an Edinburgh FAP just after the Glasgow Christmas FAP.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 10:57 (eighteen years ago) link

The Pond's in Leith... Salamander Street, I think.

What date are we going to do this, then? Any suggestions?

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 08:26 (eighteen years ago) link

Erm. Thursday 8th December?

alext (alext), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 09:19 (eighteen years ago) link

That's my brother's birthday (not that i think he expects me to spend it with him).
