John, I still have it! Of course!

Thanks, EZ. That's very sweet of you. I've been having "a time of things" lately, your comment is sweeter than you could know.

sweet tater, Friday, 2 March 2007 17:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, that piece, EZ.

I'm down with Panang. What should I do in River North for the hour between work and dinner?

jaymc, Friday, 2 March 2007 17:57 (seventeen years ago) link

i am going to milwaukee tonight so someone please please PLEASE bring a camera or at least a camera phone.

also, i don't want to die in a van accident on a snowy wisconsin highway.

chicago kevin, Friday, 2 March 2007 17:57 (seventeen years ago) link

(I want a copy.)

jaymc, Friday, 2 March 2007 17:57 (seventeen years ago) link

john, did you ever get that thing i mailed you?

sweet tater, Friday, 2 March 2007 17:58 (seventeen years ago) link

I think my tall black boots will gain me entry into de Club as well as be good for walking in the snow.

KitCat, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:02 (seventeen years ago) link

My slutwear... not so much.

KitCat, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Kelsey, Did you see the Top Model premiere this week?

KitCat, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey Kelsey, the fun polyamorous folks you met last summer in Mpls are throwing Mardi Gras party on Saturday night. I'll send 'em your e-mail address.

Eazy, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:04 (seventeen years ago) link

john, did you ever get that thing i mailed you?

Yes, I did! Thank you so much! I haven't had a chance to use it yet, though. I also need a 1/8" cord (is this what you called a "mini-plug"?) I have a 1/4"-to-1/8" adaptor that I can plug into the keyboard, and then the 1/8" cord would go into your gadget, I'm guessing.

jaymc, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:15 (seventeen years ago) link

I actually saw some of ANTM, while eating baked eggplant and goat cheese before L O S T.

jaymc, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:16 (seventeen years ago) link

I haven't watched top model in Minnesota save for that time when Katie brought a VHS copy of a couple of episodes for me! We don't get the station in on our tv set...I am super bummed!! I was hoping for some remote-watching together. Alas, I am sad. Was it good?

Eric: thanks!! I actually have plans on Saturday, though. For once!! I got a bunch of folks from work & a couple of misc. friends to head over to St. Paul to watch the MN roller derby bout! I'm excited!!

And J: yeah, the mini plug is the 1/8" thing. Yup. Glad you got it...I've had bad luck mailing things to Brooke & so I wasn't sure whether it made it to you or not!

sweet tater, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Tire update: I have a spare, it's on the car, so I was able to drive to the tire place and just drop off the old wheel for them to fix. The new tire will be free, but the rim is bent to shit and I'll bet I'll have to buy a new one, who knows how much that is.

When I worked there he was on this self-imposed "one fried egg sandwich will be good enough for breakfast AND lunch" diet.

That sounds like a horrible idea for a diet.

Jordan, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I told him as much as well. I mean, seriously?!

sweet tater, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:43 (seventeen years ago) link

how was the baked eggplant & goat cheese? that sounds kinda awesome, john.

sweet tater, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:44 (seventeen years ago) link

I can't believe I have not told you this! They put ads on the side of our apartment building, such as a giant glass of Stella, and our current ad is a HUGE ANTM ad featuring all the contestants and Tyra standing in a jungle. I think of you every time I see it, Kelsey.

Jenny, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:46 (seventeen years ago) link

oooh! I am so jealous! and so honored that you think of me! too bad there wasn't some way to pose with the ad so it would look like you were a contestant. you could charge admission for that kind of thing.

sweet tater, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:48 (seventeen years ago) link

It was awesome. Although Kr is the one who made it, courtesy the Deborah Madison cookbook. You just cut an eggplant into thin slices, salt them, drizzle oil, etc. Then bake 'em in the oven for a little while. Then you smear goat cheese all over the slices, put 'em back in the oven for like a minute, just so it melts. And then we served with marinara sauce, like regular store-bought Ragu or whatever but tricked out with extra garlic and a bay leaf and I forget what else she put in there.

jaymc, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:49 (seventeen years ago) link

I only watched a teeny tiny bit of Top Model. It was pretty embarassing.

Their big photo shoot had a contraversial topics theme. The girl who ended up being kicked off was supposed to be anti-fur in her pix. She was supposed to use her props (paintbrush, can of red paint, pile of supposed fur coats) to depict the cause. Anyway, she just looked confused the whole time. She told the camera she liked furs and didn't know why anyone wouldn't because of "fashion and stuff." Later, in the judging room, they asked her what her personal stance was on wearing furs, since she just looked confused in her photos. She said she was fine with furs when the animals just died of natural causes and stuff, like getting in fights with each other in the jungle, but not if someone just killed them for their fur.

KitCat, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:50 (seventeen years ago) link

"They do die of natural causes sometimes, right?" Her voice was annoying. I'm glad she got the boot.

jaymc, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Speaking of clueless people, one of my coworkers (big surprise!) was whining about how hard Lent is. She can't have meat on Fridays until 4pm. 4 PM! What is she supposed to do until then? She just feels like she's starving on Fridays. It really is a sacrifice. Meanwhile, she's eating a yogurt and a 100 calorie pack of cookies. That's it. I say, hey, you could pack a PBJ! She hates PBJs. I say, what about a salad? What about soup? I don't like salad. Vegetarian soup is bland.

And apparently, she can eat fish. She should just cram it with tuna.

After a while, I gave up and let her get back to her moaning.

KitCat, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:55 (seventeen years ago) link

That's what she gave up, meat for half of one day a week? I'll never understand Christians.

Jordan, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Good news: I won't have to pay much for the new tire, since I just bought the damn thing last month.

Bad news: they don't have any new tires, and have to order it from CHICAGO, so I hope my spare gets me through the weekend.

Jordan, Friday, 2 March 2007 18:58 (seventeen years ago) link

yum. Panang sounds good. my black boots are also good for walking, so I'll be fine.

horseshoe, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:00 (seventeen years ago) link

WOW. That girl sounds awful!! Both girls, actually. Dumb fur & dumb meat ladies.
I suppose I felt more hungry right after I went vegetarian because meat does leave that "filled up" feeling. It is rather amusing that she's restricting herself to a yogurt & a cookie pack until MEAT TIME...as though she's sacrificing through her slight reserves until she can binge until dawn.

sweet tater, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Are you vegetarian now, Kelsey? I can't remember.

Jordan, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:04 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm looking at old threads. I want to find my earliest post to ilx, but it's hard, because my name was just "jeff"

Chicago bday party thread

Jeff, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:10 (seventeen years ago) link

I've been a vegetarian for the better part of 13 years, although I do eat fish sometimes.

sweet tater, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:16 (seventeen years ago) link

This was my first thread, possibly first post:

So have any of you tried out those little fuzzy nipple covers? They're supposed to keep you warm & toasty. I haven't, that's why I ask. I have a problem with (a) being cold & (b) having my nipples show through all my tops when it starts to get chilly out. Bandaids hurt when you rip them off and it's dumb when you can see this little rectangular outline under your shirt. Am I the only girl with this problem?

KitCat, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:18 (seventeen years ago) link

wait, there are fuzzy nipple covers?

horseshoe, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:19 (seventeen years ago) link

I think I need those. I can get quite niptactular for a man.

I don't want to find my first post, or any of my early posts, because they will probably seem totally dumb.

dan m, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Way to make an entrance.

Woah, this looks like it might have some recording potential: http://madison.craigslist.org/msg/287060127.html

I'm going to leave work early, dudes. Have a great weekend!!

ORLY??! :-D

KitCat, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, no more dumb than any of my other posts I guess! :D

dan m, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:23 (seventeen years ago) link

This vendor won't stop harassing me for money, even though I have no control over when he gets paid. I usually have no idea until a check or draw actually hit my desk. Plus, both bosses are out, as is the accountant. Leave me alone! I don't know! I basically told him as much. Then he wrote me again asking when he'd see payment. I don't know! I don't know! I still don't know!

KitCat, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:24 (seventeen years ago) link

I bet he calls me sometime later this afternoon or comes in the office with the same question.
I understand people wanting to be paid but this particular company is a huge pain in the neck. I have told them a million times I can't help them and given them the names/numbers for the project manager and accountant. They'd prefer to just bother me though.

KitCat, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Ok, I'll stop talking about it. I promise.

KitCat, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:26 (seventeen years ago) link

What genre of music can you not tolerate?

most electronic and dance music. or anything that is horribly repetitive.

Jeff on Friday, April 27, 2001 7:00 PM (5 years ago)

ha ha ha. I was stupid.

Jeff, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Wow 2001. You've got me beat. I wonder when Nick started posting. I know it was way before I did. ILM was his thing.

KitCat, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:28 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm still going through the older threads. If only I could sort by date. And erase Jeff Buckly from existence.

Jeff, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:29 (seventeen years ago) link

IMO there's a good argument to be made for erasing Jeff Buckley from existence besides making it easier to find your first post.

dan m, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:31 (seventeen years ago) link

This is my very first geeky post.

Personally, I love Rock n' Roll. "Kenny G ain't got no soul, John Coltrane is rock & roll"...pure entertainment. Plus, it's catchy as hell, and I have a soft spot for any MC who is willing to start screaming (and reference Nina Simone in the same song).

I think this was my first ILE post:

Soul Vegetarian! Yes!

Oddly enough, some of my favorite restaurants in Chicago tend to be veggie places with a religious aspect to them. Especially the Buddhist joints, like Victory's Banner (for breakfast), Amitabul, and the new, delicious Alice & Friends.

I'll also third Andie's -- it is a shade better than Reza's, methinks.

That was on my (ex) ex-girlfriend's birthday, coincidentally.

Jordan, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:35 (seventeen years ago) link

i have no idea what my first post was. No recollection at all. I'm sure it was on ILM, though.

kenan, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:37 (seventeen years ago) link

And I think this is my first ILM post:

Hey nabisco, et al. -- how come no Pitchfork writers voted in the Pazz & Jop? Seems like writing for the site should be make you far more reputable than some of the freelancers they get lists from. Then again, I don't know what's involved in submitting a list.

Partially, I bring it up cuz I feel like PFM writers could have some sway. At least Enon, who put out such a fun record (#15 on Pitchfork's year-end), wouldn't have to languish at #733 (!!) on P&J02.

First thread I ever started

jaymc, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:40 (seventeen years ago) link

I can't find my first post. It was after I found my name encoded by John in a conversation about the Ditty Bops.

Eazy, Friday, 2 March 2007 19:40 (seventeen years ago) link

That's a very jaymc post.
