Magma and Magna Carta, but just for today. I bought a Magna Carta record (Seasons), thinking I was buying a Magma record, because I wanted to know why they made Christgau laugh out loud when he was painting his record shelves.

When the keyboards guy joined my old band ages ago he thought we were saying we were into Magnum, although we were actually saying Magma. I'm amazed he agreed to try out.

Tim Wallach
Larry Parrish

For the third or fourth time today, I guessed the wrong guy on Immaculate Grid. For their careers:

Parrish - 256 HR, 992 RBI, .263/.318/.439
Wallach - 260, HR, 1125 RBI, .257/.316/.416

Both were third baseman, both had their best years for the Expos--around '81 or '82, Wallach took over from Parrish. For the purposes of the game, 1) Parrish had a 30-HR season but Wallach didn't (28); 2) Wallach had a 100-RBI season but Parrish didn't.

clemenza, Friday, 3 May 2024 14:45 (three weeks ago) link

And 3) Wallach won a GG but Parrish didn't.

Also by Capra, and also from 1939! That may actually have made the problem worse until now that I'm consciously aware of it; a kind of feeling that the other film than the one I'm thinking of has somehow shapeshifted or something. Thanks for pinning that one down.
