TW: You know what, if I had been in front of you, I would hug you.

am0n, Monday, 26 April 2010 20:28 (fourteen years ago) link

So then I did the research. I’ve done so much research; my background’s acting and also psychology. So, to respond to your question, I think that people connect because it’s the real world. And, you know, we are very simple people when you really think about it. You may use fancy words, you may be a graduate from Stanford University or Berkeley, whatever, but it doesn’t mean that you connect with people, you know?

So there’s a lot of symbolism within The Room. From the beginning, it’s no secret that I’ve encouraged people to actually see it several times. You see, sometimes a certain group of media, they don’t give the creative process a chance, or they don’t give enough credit—but never mind about that. We all connect to The Room directly and indirectly, when you really think about it, if you’re honest with yourself.

And again, my take is also that I don’t expect everybody to love The Room, but I’m pretty sure that people will find at least an element, a sentence or word, or whatever else within The Room that connects with their life directly or indirectly.

Wow. Is it just that he seriously doesn't get *why* people go crazy over his movie? Or is he being obtuse on purpose?

MW:

As you know, a bunch of people who go to see The Room in the theatres love to throw spoons, and I just have to know: do the spoons have any significance in the movie?
TW:

Absolutely. You see, at first, we didn’t have plastic spoons in the world. But we used to, a long time ago – not even a long time ago – we had wood spoons. You see, plastic also represents the technology, but at the same time also created something that we don’t like, because plastic is not nature. But it can be part of nature, if we find a formula, how to create the plastic without chemicals, which I think we may do someday. Because now we have technology – I don’t know if you know about it, but I do know about it – that looks like plastic but it’s not plastic.

A couple of my friends are going to see it at The Ziegfeld on Friday, Wiseau is appearing. They're trying to drag me along, but I am not spending actual money ok, $15 to see this movie.

Seeee itttt

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Tuesday, 27 April 2010 05:28 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah dude its not just a lol Bad Film. It really is an experience in a cinema if it already has a rabid fanbase.

I basically had NFI what was going on half the film (couldnt hear dialogue over the screaming!) but it didnt matter, it was too hilarious.

Eyjafjallalalalalatrolololol (Trayce), Tuesday, 27 April 2010 06:22 (fourteen years ago) link

No, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it already on DVD, watching with the same friends, two weeks ago! They've just gotten super invested in it now, wanting to see it again already, getting more people to see it... I just don't know if it's worth the effort and money to see it again, even in that crazy midnight showing audience. Amazingly, it looks like it's already sold out.

I get to ask him a question!

kclu, Monday, 3 May 2010 20:28 (fourteen years ago) link

Ask him why Johnny + Lisa weren't horrified when Denny said he likes to watch them. Isn't someone voyeuring on your sex-life ridic creepy?

Mordy, Monday, 3 May 2010 20:30 (fourteen years ago) link

I tried to watch this by myself at home on DVD and got about 30 seconds into the second love scene before turning it off.
I guess you have to see it with a group.

I have always wanted to see this and I found the perfect occasion: the star will be coming to see it with me. I'm glad I never went ahead and saw this with one of my friend's that doesn't appreciate corny humor

CaptainLorax, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 21:11 (fourteen years ago) link

Oh I see that the link that kclu posted last week was for the same event. Dang, I'm gonna have to preorder tix aren't I

CaptainLorax, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 21:15 (fourteen years ago) link

yep, definitely. i don't know, though, you might still want to try to watch it beforehand if possible - from what i was told, it's not the best way to see it for the first time, since you won't hear half the dialogue over the drunken hooting and hollering

Nhex, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 21:17 (fourteen years ago) link

Ohhh

CaptainLorax, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 21:18 (fourteen years ago) link

I can attest to that, I missed a great deal of the dialog due to the noise. Didnt matter, really. But still.

This was on in London recently but I couldn't find anyone who wanted to go so I didn't go and now I've read this thread I am SAD about that.

ikr!

Mordy, Sunday, 16 May 2010 17:29 (fourteen years ago) link

i was worried this was going to be just boring, but it wasn't at all. the audience participation stuff probably helped smooth things over, but damn, such an intense level of sustained shittiness.

taylory dayne (goole), Sunday, 16 May 2010 17:32 (fourteen years ago) link

I was thinking about this film the other day (as I often do) and I think it appeals to me for the same reason that TVtropes appeals to me. It deconstructs narrative to bare bones that, left as is, are totally meaningless. It's like some kind of unconscious dreaming id of human narrative -- like dreaming.

What's this look that Denny + Mark are giving each other at 2:34 in that clip? Are they co-conspirators in something we're never shown? Does Denny distrust Mark because he suspects he's having an affair with Lisa? Is Mark secretly Denny's father? Are they just having eye-sex?

of course that website exists. how could it not

Nhex, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 05:47 (fourteen years ago) link

lol @ how many "I dont want to talk about it"s Lisa has. I noticed that when I watched the movie, by the end I was yelling "you never do you bitch!" at the screen.

I don't have anyone to go see this movie with. I might not go

CaptainLorax, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 22:19 (fourteen years ago) link

Hey whoever just msged me re this thread I dont know who you are! lol stupid msg system.

Eyjafjallalalalalatrolololol (Trayce), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 23:11 (fourteen years ago) link

really glad i saw this for the first time (like a week or two ago) with someone else, but not in a theater full of people I don't know. You definitely want to share the experience but I liked being able to rewind and not have people who know the film shouting over it. Really does live up to the hype whether you're someone who doesn't really do ironic films or does them all the time.

Yeah now ive done a cinema viewing I'd like to get a DVD out and watch it with some friends or a date. it'd be hilaro.

nm worked out who messaged me now lol.

Eyjafjallalalalalatrolololol (Trayce), Wednesday, 19 May 2010 01:02 (fourteen years ago) link

has no bearing at all on the lines before or after, or the rest of the scene, or anything that happens in the rest of the movie. but the sound editing and cuts put it right in the scene, so effort went into putting it where it is, it's not a mistake.

xp

taylory dayne (goole), Wednesday, 19 May 2010 01:04 (fourteen years ago) link

ha watching it again, i totally have that wrong. it IS the start of another conversation.

taylory dayne (goole), Wednesday, 19 May 2010 01:08 (fourteen years ago) link

He's too busy to play cards because he expects Lisa at any minute, yet he subjects his buds to a rambling story then asks them if they want to eat something?
