I actually understood the point he was trying to make completely and think people are going completely nuts in their criticism. Clubs can say whatever they want, but if people think there isn't institutionalised homophobia, sexism and GOD KNOWS WHAT ELSE in there, they're kidding. It was a fair point badly made with some unfortunate examples crammed in to try to speak to a particular audience.

I think sport IS a qualitatively different culture from normal male culture! But, one that is flawed and unacceptable in so many ways. If anything, Akermanis' piece highlights this. Anyway, I can't believe people are so incensed with what a known dim bulb headline-chaser who has no particular way with words has to say on the matter. He should have been smart enough to not write it, or get some help with doing it.
