is 136 somewhere in china?
― caek, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 08:50 (thirteen years ago) link
dont think houses/buildings in China have that kind of sloping roof you see on the ones in the foreground
but the shade of green you can see on some of the buildings definitely matches the construction tarps they drape over buildings under renovation. also signs of some kind of olde wall/tower on the right hand side? intriguing.
― dayo, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 08:56 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah, houses in the foreground look eastern european?
― caek, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 09:10 (thirteen years ago) link
Proper high mountains, vague eastern euro look, church on bluff, nakh's name ... Yerevan?

136 looks Russian or ex-USSR
― Un peu d'Eire, ça fait toujours Dublin (Michael White), Wednesday, 22 September 2010 14:52 (thirteen years ago) link
there is no way that city is 1) below 5,000 feet elevation 2) south of the 40th parallel, or 3) populated by more than 100,000 inhabitants
― del griffith, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 18:17 (thirteen years ago) link
north of 40th parallel but yr wrong with the other two

i really need to live somewhere surrounded by mountains at some point
― I saw him in convulsive throws I said "I'll have one of those" (sunny successor), Thursday, 23 September 2010 14:41 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah i've always thought the same....or proximity to mountains at least, since having huge mountains surrounding you could be dismal in winter light / snowdrifts

can you tell us whether this city is located in the caucasus, and if not, where it is in relation to them?
― del griffith, Thursday, 23 September 2010 16:21 (thirteen years ago) link
nowhere near the caucasus

They look sort of Scandinavian, as does the fact that some of the buildings are gaily coloured. Black soil = volcanic, but it's not Rekjavik and nowhere else in Iceland is big enough. Used to look different usually = destroyed in the war, so that'd be Norway. Bergen? But there's no sea in sight, which is confusing.
