Hi. :)

jaymc, Saturday, 3 March 2007 18:47 (seventeen years ago) link

Julia just bought a new computer! W00T!

And... I talked her into buying a Mac, so I'm kinda proud of that. I'm sorry, I'm not a Mac zealot, I swear. It's just that she was always about "Oh shit my drivers aren't compatible what do I do?" and "OhNo crashycrashy Stupid Machine!" and "Guess some friends have to come over and manage my cranky-ass machine because I cannot." No. Fuck that. Julia does not deserve a machine that is just a pile of constant trouble. I like her TOO MUCH to let her buy another PC laptop, which will just be the same thing all over again.

Mwah, Julia. Enjoy the snazziness.

kenan, Saturday, 3 March 2007 18:47 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm planning on it! and when i'm waxing poetic about how wonderful my new laptop is, you can gloat. :)

JuliaA, Saturday, 3 March 2007 18:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Deal.

kenan, Saturday, 3 March 2007 18:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Yall are funny.

Jeff, Saturday, 3 March 2007 19:41 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm still feeling the affects from drinking on Friday night. I swear I've almost passed out like 3 times today.

Jeff, Saturday, 3 March 2007 19:42 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm still feeling the effects from drinking on Friday night, too. But, never fear: PIZZA IS ON THE WAY.

(thx again for inviting us out, EZ... it was fun)

dan m, Saturday, 3 March 2007 19:45 (seventeen years ago) link

You guys talk about Friday night like it wasn't last night. Denial?

kenan, Saturday, 3 March 2007 19:50 (seventeen years ago) link

I meant Thursday. See how fucked my brain is?

Jeff, Saturday, 3 March 2007 19:53 (seventeen years ago) link

The only thing I did last night was sleep on the couch from about 8 to 10, then go to bed.

Jeff, Saturday, 3 March 2007 19:54 (seventeen years ago) link

aws. dude, i been there.

kenan, Saturday, 3 March 2007 19:56 (seventeen years ago) link

You know, it's weird. When you get those hangovers, you ask yourself, why the fuck did I do this again. The next two days are going to be a complete fucking waste. I should really consider slowing down.

Then that sweet nectar touches you lips the next weekend. Repeat process.

Jeff, Saturday, 3 March 2007 20:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Or the next night. Cycles may vary.

Jeff, Saturday, 3 March 2007 20:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Yup.

I just posted a cute photo of Kr's eye on WDYLL.

jaymc, Saturday, 3 March 2007 20:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey Kenan -- do you want to send me the rest of that C. Veloso album? I have tracks 1, 3, 4, 8, 9, and 11.

jaymc, Saturday, 3 March 2007 20:04 (seventeen years ago) link

My fantasy baseball draft is in 20 minutes. I always get nervous as hell for these things.

Jeff, Saturday, 3 March 2007 20:10 (seventeen years ago) link

I've finally admitted to myself this year that I don't have time for fantasy baseball.

jaymc, Saturday, 3 March 2007 20:11 (seventeen years ago) link

I started a league at work, mainly because I don't know many of the people I work with. I feel like I should.

Jeff, Saturday, 3 March 2007 20:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Plus I have an awesome fantasybaseballplayerrankings.xls that I spent 6 hours making last weekend.

Jeff, Saturday, 3 March 2007 20:14 (seventeen years ago) link

I ranked at least a hundred players on 7 different tiers by position. It is color coded. And has macros.

Jeff, Saturday, 3 March 2007 20:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Nice.

jaymc, Saturday, 3 March 2007 20:28 (seventeen years ago) link

oof. I just took an involuntary nap. I hate those.

kenan, Saturday, 3 March 2007 21:22 (seventeen years ago) link

So nice when in front of tv and no one else is home...just flip to Natl Geographic special and doze off during commercial breaks.

Laurel, Saturday, 3 March 2007 21:24 (seventeen years ago) link

A month or two ago I discovered that same 3-for-$25 DVD deal at Blockbuster that Kenan mentioned, and now suddenly I own DVDs for the first time in my life. The buy-two-get-two-free deal is good, too. Apparently they buy DVDs for store credit as well. I like this more than renting.

Eazy, Saturday, 3 March 2007 22:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Just had a little involuntary nap of my own... 4.5 hours worth.

OK, I am lying, it was completely voluntary. Just didn't expect it would last that long!

dan m, Sunday, 4 March 2007 02:39 (seventeen years ago) link

I pretty much sat around in my boxers all day and downloaded music. It feels like 2005.

jaymc, Sunday, 4 March 2007 02:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Ha! How quickly you revert to single life with a hangover and sans girlfriend.

dan m, Sunday, 4 March 2007 02:58 (seventeen years ago) link

I've been having dreams that are so detailed, they are rob me of my rest. The theme lately has been Outcasts/Impostors, and Finding and Destroying Them.

Last night it was energy waves from a distant galaxy that came to earth and coalesced in the form of a person or object. I accidentally discovered that one way to eradicate them was to take them to a sheet of place glass and break a hole in the glass with them near it. Because--according to my dream voice-over--the Universe has no failsafe against plate glass, the impostors were sucked out of the hole and reabsorbed into the cosmos. I did this with impostor Jesse, as well as impostor chocolates, Chinese food, grouper-skin shoes (yes, the fish--WTF?), water balloons, and a number of other things.

Also there was a camera that recorded experience not just with sound and images, but in every possible other way. It did all this on a standard audio cassette.

Not that you care, but this is my blog, you know, so here goes:

The night before I dreamed that I lived in a society where certain people were actively and openly persecuted (only in a dream, I know). I forget what the main difference was in these people, but you could tell who they were because their forefingers had somewhat specialized functionality. The authorities encouraged posses to seek them out to destroy them because their forefingers were said to be wildly dangerous, and these people would use them to kill for amusement, and to commit robberies. There were whole forests in Georgia that people stopped visiting because they were said to be inhabited by these people.

Years passed in the the dream and society changed, and I was talking to one of these people and realized that the forefingers were for the most part good for easily solving math problems and helping people with illnesses feel better.

Jesse, Sunday, 4 March 2007 15:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Last night I dreamed that I was cleaning.

Jenny, Sunday, 4 March 2007 15:57 (seventeen years ago) link

No dreams for me! FYI!

Jeff, Sunday, 4 March 2007 17:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Last night I dreamt I was blogging.

dan m, Sunday, 4 March 2007 17:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Stupid things I have done part 1,000,000,001: I have to do some serious studying today but for some reason, the law library is never quiet enough. So I decided to go to the undergrad library but the undergrad library is less tolerant of coffee. Unwilling to compromise on my need for both quiet and caffeine, I decided to try and sneak a venti Americano into the undergrad library by putting it in my coat pocket. WELL, my coat pocket is deeper than a venti-sized Starbucks cup so when I gingerly placed the cup in my pocket, the lid popped off, leaving me with an unlidded, very very hot cup of coffee in my coat pocket. To make matters more interesting, I was trying to accomplish my coffee heist while in the elevator so when the doors opened, there I was trying to pull a very very hot cup of coffee out of my coat pocket without spilling the coffee or burning my hands. I failed miserably at both and, defeated, just walked into the library carrying a dripping cup of coffee in my bright red and first degree burned hands in full view of St. Vincent, the librarian and everyone. Nobody said anything, probably because they thought I was dangerously insane.

THE END.

How come everything at the gap is $50?

I did not buy this.

Jeff, Sunday, 4 March 2007 20:41 (seventeen years ago) link

Also, ragstock is a giant pile of shit. Everything is large or extra large.

Jeff, Sunday, 4 March 2007 20:42 (seventeen years ago) link

All those skinny hipsters have bought up everything else.

Jeff, Sunday, 4 March 2007 20:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Jeff, I didn't respond to your picture message because I couldn't see it! But that is a nice sweater.

Jenny, Sunday, 4 March 2007 20:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Jeff, I think you're a skinny hipster now.

Jenny, the way you write about your mishaps I like to think you've pulled them off with surly elan. It gives me hope.

Laurel, Sunday, 4 March 2007 20:47 (seventeen years ago) link

Jenny, the way you write about your mishaps I like to think you've pulled them off with surly elan. It gives me hope.

Before you go praising her, consider this conversation

Jen: Did you read about my mishap at the library?
me: yes
Jen: After i did that it hurt so bad I started crying and I was crying so hard that I farted
right in the library
me: really?
Jen: Yes.
I just threw my coffee away and went to Ada's and had 4 gin and tonics.

Jesse, Sunday, 4 March 2007 21:06 (seventeen years ago) link

Now if Jenny and I had had that conversation, you might not be so quick to praise her.

Jesse, Sunday, 4 March 2007 21:07 (seventeen years ago) link

You know, Jesse, you don't have despoil all my idols. Leave me something. Also leave Jenny something, something like....I dunno, like a little shred of dignity. Plus, four G&Ts is a good Sunday afternoon's work so I'm still kind of jealous.

Not drinking here, cooking for the next week, dancing to the Go-Betweens in between trying not to ruin the lentils.

Laurel, Sunday, 4 March 2007 21:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Seriously. I mean, why would I walk all the way to Ada's when I could have four perfectly reasonable G&Ts next door at the Exchequer?

Jenny, Sunday, 4 March 2007 21:09 (seventeen years ago) link

That xpost was designed to point out a fatal flaw in Jesse's narrative.

Jenny, Sunday, 4 March 2007 21:19 (seventeen years ago) link

I think you walked to Ada's because you were walking around the Loop, sobbing until you finally made found yourself there.

There was co-operative jackassery at the subway platform tonight. Some jackass was wandering up and down the platform very loudly (and slowly) rapping. If he had been stationary, I would have moved, but he made sure he was inescapable. After a few minutes some other guy stopped him and asked if he wanted to battle. So they had a rap battle. Loudly, and abrasively, of course.

This was obnoxious enough, but after they were done a number of people congratulated them, and there were a couple other guys who were inspired to rap as well. The woman next to me on the seat--a reasonable, normal looking woman in her late 30's--called the original duo over and told them how great they sounded, and how rap was a another form of poetry, and a way that you can make millions.

I longed for the usual chattering crackhead.

Jesse, Monday, 5 March 2007 04:00 (seventeen years ago) link

There is not much that bothers me more than people on public transport singing or rapping in full voice. It's much different than buskers. Really, I'd rather be in a car full of Trixies on cell phones, shell-games, and blind guys reciting his litany for change.

Jesse, Monday, 5 March 2007 04:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Their litanies. I was thinking about one guy in particular.

Jesse, Monday, 5 March 2007 04:05 (seventeen years ago) link

ON THE OTHER HAND-- I've had a chance to think about my reaction to these twats, and they are they price you pay for living in a place that is more interesting than say, Greensboro. These are the kind of urban annoyances I was expecting when I wanted to move to a big city.

Thus have I come to peace with the rappers and my annoyance: we're all a part of the big Circle of City Life.

And note to self: Charge your iPod, dammit.

Jesse, Monday, 5 March 2007 04:41 (seventeen years ago) link

I'd love to see an impromptu rap battle on the el platform.
