The best part of Sister Ray is about 5 minutes in, when John does something weird to his organ, like maybe shares some of his speed with it, and it just goes into NOIZE OVERDRIVE and it's like, wow, you're loud, dude.

speaking of cigarettes, i ran across the street to buy a pack of smokes for me and a fudge round for my friend lisa and the total, TOTAL was four dollars twenty five cents. then the dude told me about the buy two get one free deal so i bought 3 packs of smokes for $8.69. THEN the free cigarette guy was at subt on saturday so i wound up with 5 packs of cigarettes in my coat.

Yeah, I guess the part that bothers me the most about the chattiness is that it seems like it must be institutionally mandated. It's Chotchkee's-esque.

I think the degree to which it's "institutionally mandated" is partially that they literally tell employees to converse with the customers, but partially that they only hire people who are naturally friendly and social. All of my interactions with TJ's employees have felt very natural, not forced, not like they're reading from a script, and only a couple of times have I felt like the person was too chatty in an annoying way (it's mostly from slightly older dudes who look like they live alone with their Star Wars figurines). Most of the time, it's just a pleasant interaction.

I don't think the Argo folks' chattiness is institutionally mandated for 2 reasons: first, they sound completely sincere, and genuinely eager, and second, when I worked at Starbucks for 2 weeks, a lot of the staff there was like this, and it was annoying!

i am going to tell a porn store story because where do you tell such things if not ilx.

OK, so igo cars are $6/hour + .50/mile + one-time fee of $75 and $25 annual renewal. There are 3 locations within as many blocks of my house.

Zipcar is $9/hour, includes 125 miles per day, $50 per year. Cheaper in the long run, but their cars are considerably farther away.

I think igo wins.
