There are so many old goths in this town - 40 to 50+ year olds, some running stores, some just being regular people who happen to still have long purple hair and velvet dresses.

I think its p easy to be an elegant older goth lady.

So you're actually met Geir Hongro?

there are so few mods in the u.s. that i'm actually happy on the rare occasion i see one out in the wild. i approve of scooters (if driven safely). i like it when people dress nice.

old punks can be fun as long as they still listen to new music, and if their heads haven't completely been done in by 30-some years of drug/alcohol abuse.

Thinking there's a difference between Aging Mods and Aging Paul Weller Fans, tho it's easy to get the two confused. That horrible haircut that was acceptable when 19-y-o Steve Marriott had it in 1966 but is a fucking disgrace when you're 47 in 2010 is more indicative of Aging Paul Weller Fans than Aging Mods.

we also need to differentiate between standard mod style and hippie john lennon granny glasses mod style.

this needs to go away forever:

They have a scooter rally at Largs every summer and while you occasionally see someone in full quadrophenia get-up, it's more likely they'll have a parka, stonewashed tesco jeans and a beer belly, I still shout 'WE ARE THE MODS' at them though, an't help myself :)

Found this when looking for a Liam Gallagher mod haircut that I actually like (was looking for the Kinks tribute kind of thing with the straight fringe and longer sides).

I have it on good authority that Charlie Harper from UK Subs is the
best aging punk dude in the world, and that John Robb is a pain in the hole.

This bears repeating, Charlie Harper is a fucking star. Can't vouch for the John Robb part but I hate Goldblade, so... although I'm considering going to see the Membranes reunion next month so maybe I'll see then

An aging punk dude was being really sneakily racist to a black friend of mine in the pub recently, and just ambiguously enough that no one could take him to task on it. It was was horrible.

This is mostly acceptable. Guy on left needs to lose the shades, both younger dudes need to get 1 grip. Dude front centre possibly a bit racist.

I think it was (What's the Story) Morning Glory? I know it sounds obvious but I'm sure I got it from Woolworths. I was always a big Oasis fan. Noel sings harmony on a track on my record. It was only a little thing but he came to the studio for an afternoon and hung out. It was lovely. I love Beady Eye too, especially Four Letter Word. We're supporting them in March which I can't wait for. They're both lovely lads. It's great to see them back. Hopefully they'll bring a bit of rock and roll to the charts. There's not one guitar band in the top forty. I'd love to get in the charts and have it. The radio is awful at the minute - just so boring. It needs to change. My record's rock and roll but there's a pop element there too. I want my records in the charts and on the radio. I want to get it out there and break that barrier. It's influenced by John Lennon and T-Rex. It's got that groove feel. You can have a good dance to it, I love it.

No hype I hope yr vocal cords get run over by a bus.

The thing about ageing punk dudes is that they know they look ridiculous whereas ageing mod dudes actually think they dress well.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Friday, 27 April 2012 09:52 (twelve years ago) link

My take on it is:

Mods look great in the clothes and styles, etc. When they're 17.

After that, it's like girls dressing in "young C&A" fashions because they fit.

Mark G, Friday, 27 April 2012 09:55 (twelve years ago) link

London isn't British anymore. Truly English music now comes from the North, i.e. Manchester, Liverpool etc. Look up the word "Britpop" for a further explaination.
