Str8 Drapin It (chrisv2010), Monday, 8 November 2010 14:06 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, actually
i went to the doctor on friday afternoon and dedicated this weekend to getting better
she gave me ambien, which works fine so far (no sleep-driving or anything weird really at all)
i feel better/rested but man this weekend was SO BORING

sleeping is boring

thanks for asking

The Great Jumanji, (La Lechera), Monday, 8 November 2010 14:26 (thirteen years ago) link

cool.

Str8 Drapin It (chrisv2010), Monday, 8 November 2010 14:32 (thirteen years ago) link

Had a bottle of wine, fell asleep around 1, woke up at 4. now watching sin city while all's quiet.

not_goodwin, Wednesday, 10 November 2010 05:36 (thirteen years ago) link

my eye is going weird :(

acoleuthic, Wednesday, 10 November 2010 05:38 (thirteen years ago) link

is it twitching?

not_goodwin, Wednesday, 10 November 2010 05:48 (thirteen years ago) link

yes, at the edges of the lids

acoleuthic, Wednesday, 10 November 2010 05:51 (thirteen years ago) link

It's tiredness apparently, which i guess you are, being on an insomnia thread :)
Doesn't last long, it's quite common, nothing to worry about.

not_goodwin, Wednesday, 10 November 2010 06:00 (thirteen years ago) link

solidarity, let's fight the night

acoleuthic, Wednesday, 10 November 2010 06:01 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't mind it sometimes, i open the blinds and watch it getting brighter while listening to music or watching a film.
it's currently 6:08 here and i'm getting picked up in a couple of hours to go and do decorating at my mothers house.

i'd happily stay awake for the rest of my life if i didn't have to wallpaper ever again!

not_goodwin, Wednesday, 10 November 2010 06:08 (thirteen years ago) link

could use some ambien

mookieproof, Wednesday, 10 November 2010 09:20 (thirteen years ago) link

monday night i took my pain meds for my back, naproxen, vicodin and flexiril and didn't fall asleep until 4am. I can't take my sleeping pill if i want to wake up in the morning after taking pain meds.

Str8 Drapin It (chrisv2010), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 14:22 (thirteen years ago) link

maybe i'm nuts, but that is a lot of drugs, no?

ambien has been working for me, and i am very thankful, but i can tell it makes me like...wobbly. it's kind of embarrassing.

The Great Jumanji, (La Lechera), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 14:30 (thirteen years ago) link

Be careful -- even if you don't run outside and try to drive a bulldozer off a construction site, you might find that the time between taking the med and actually falling asleep is a big black hole that you can't remember the next day. Pretty much harmless as long as you take it while in bed with a book or w/e! Just don't try to discuss anything important.

Str8 Drapin It (chrisv2010), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 14:39 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, I feel better, and that's good, but i'm still swirling in chaos otherwise
kinda sleepwalking through life

The Great Jumanji, (La Lechera), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 15:00 (thirteen years ago) link

y'all will probably hate me for posting on this thread since i'm usually a good sleeper, but my mind was racing from like 3:30 until ? (i think 5:30 or 6:00) this morning after i got up to get a drink of water. i knew what i was getting into, guess...once i stand up it's all over.

bows don't kill people, arrows do (Jordan), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 15:04 (thirteen years ago) link

my brain was trying to figure out what to do with this song i'm working on, and once it what it thought was a good idea, it was afraid to fall asleep and forget it.

bows don't kill people, arrows do (Jordan), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 15:05 (thirteen years ago) link

i also haveOCD and ADD, so if i don't take my OCD meds, my mind races uncontrollably.

Str8 Drapin It (chrisv2010), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 15:08 (thirteen years ago) link

jordan - do you keep pen/paper on your bedside table? that's kinda fun. i've been trying to find one of those little headlamp/book lights that are enough to see a book or w/e but not too bright to wake the neighbor so at least i can read without standing up/waking anyone (humans and dogs).

The Great Jumanji, (La Lechera), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 15:10 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah that's a good idea. and i'd love to be able to read in bed without worrying i'm keeping my gf up.

bows don't kill people, arrows do (Jordan), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 15:20 (thirteen years ago) link

i have one of these and it's pretty good - can be awkward to hold if you don't have the right sized book, though.

just1n3, Wednesday, 10 November 2010 15:33 (thirteen years ago) link

A, do you wear glasses at home/at night/to read? I see you with a little high-tech clip-on light that goes on one temple of yr glasses.

Unfort the only non-military-esque version I can find online actually stands up like a little E.T. on your nosepiece, and seems like it would be right in your line of sight 100% of the time.

I've got ten bucks. SURPRISE ME. (Laurel), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 15:49 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't wear glasses or corrective lenses

but i that thing sounds like the device in THE JERK

The Great Jumanji, (La Lechera), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 16:09 (thirteen years ago) link

scratch that i

but dang that movie is so funny
maybe i should just watch the jerk when i can't sleep

The Great Jumanji, (La Lechera), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 16:09 (thirteen years ago) link

I don't know what THE JERK is, but all the "LED glasses" items I can find also come with some degree of magnification in the lenses. Pooh.

I've got ten bucks. SURPRISE ME. (Laurel), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 16:13 (thirteen years ago) link

pretty tired

at least i'm not burping demons, i guess

is it true for other insomniacs that alcohol fucks your sleep up? i basically drank myself to sleep for years, but everyone says that it's 'bad sleep'. i think i like solid 6-7 hrs bad sleep to a few hrs of restless, waking 'good sleep' though...

never felt like drunksleep was worse sleep, ime

Goths in Home & Away in my lifetime (darraghmac), Monday, 22 November 2010 02:32 (thirteen years ago) link

drunksleep better than no sleep imo but I'm not going to start drinking at 2.30a.m. with work in 6 hours.

Lindsey Lohan is the new Extreme Noise Terror (onimo), Monday, 22 November 2010 02:34 (thirteen years ago) link

definitely worse sleep ime
if i drink enough i may fall asleep faster, but i don't stay asleep

The Great Jumanji, (La Lechera), Monday, 22 November 2010 02:36 (thirteen years ago) link

you should read something really really boring onimo, like govt documents

The Great Jumanji, (La Lechera), Monday, 22 November 2010 02:36 (thirteen years ago) link

:{

that my important thing to be up for!

Goths in Home & Away in my lifetime (darraghmac), Monday, 22 November 2010 02:37 (thirteen years ago) link

even if it's from other govts? try reading, i dunno, ohio state senate proceedings or something. it's REALLY boring.

The Great Jumanji, (La Lechera), Monday, 22 November 2010 02:38 (thirteen years ago) link

i've been trying boring reading instead of drinking when i wake up in the middle of the night. probably had the most success with hegel so far

straight old fashioned, virgin (another al3x), Monday, 22 November 2010 02:41 (thirteen years ago) link

other govts are now running us, its partly why i'm awake tbh.

Goths in Home & Away in my lifetime (darraghmac), Monday, 22 November 2010 02:55 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah get 2 work you, make my money speak.

drunk sleep is my only good sleep, pretty much. current state: not drunk. think i'll go watch futurama dvd commentaries till the resistance can hold out no longer.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Monday, 22 November 2010 05:09 (thirteen years ago) link

I fell asleep about ten minutes after moaning on here :)

Reading govt documents = starting work early :(

Lindsey Lohan is the new Extreme Noise Terror (onimo), Monday, 22 November 2010 13:47 (thirteen years ago) link

I can't stay asleep if I drink, and feel even more rubbish in the morning than otherwise.

Lately my go-to sleep aid is a bedtime story on my ipod (In Our Time is also good, when available), and if I'm really jumpy a sudoku to occupy my hands and eyes.

It's very clear to me at the moment what my anxiety triggers are, and the extent to which they worsen my insomnia, which is hueg. Will never sleep well, but looking forward to being able to build yoga / meditation back into life so I can get the twitching back under control.

fwiw dudes if u drunksleep too often yr basically blunting yr body's ability to ramp down the nervous system

this is why u give benzos to alcoholics in withdrawal---remove the etoh and all of a sudden they've got an excess (of sorts) of stimulatory neurotransmitters, and they can't sleep (which is at the more benign end of things)

BIG MUFFIN (gbx), Monday, 22 November 2010 21:57 (thirteen years ago) link

for the last week i have been waking up after like four hours, unable to get back to sleep. this is v. v. out of character for me and sux.

mookieproof, Monday, 22 November 2010 22:02 (thirteen years ago) link

have a mug of hot milk and listen to william basinki

jumpskins, Monday, 22 November 2010 23:07 (thirteen years ago) link

thanks for the science gbx. some questions:

could you define the following terms in more detail:

too often -- how often is too often iyo? daily? weekly?
ramp down the nervous system -- what does this mean in a non-dependent person?
etoh -- this is alcohol units? (i googled)
