like, the dude was probably teased a LOT in high school, i'm guessing. and not for being studious or a wimp, but for being a litttttle too articulate and quick with sarcasm, fucking alex p keaton style

kanellos (gbx), Friday, 17 December 2010 17:41 (thirteen years ago) link

or maybe it's just his haircut

dan selzer, Friday, 17 December 2010 17:42 (thirteen years ago) link

well yeah, and his haircut

kanellos (gbx), Friday, 17 December 2010 17:44 (thirteen years ago) link

Honestly I can't imagine why anyone would watch Season 2 and root for anyone OTHER than Marcel. Elia before the head-shaving incident maybe (and boy did she come off badly on All Stars) and that Mike-y line cook dude seemed like a total bro, but seriously the rest of those folks were either total whiney douchebags or completely macho assholes. I'll totally take one socially inept midget egomaniac over any of them, thankyouverymuch.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Friday, 17 December 2010 17:45 (thirteen years ago) link

Marcel seems like he's created a 'douchebag' persona for himself but I never feel like it's 100% him. He seems like he's pretty insecure and awkward and just puts up this RARR I AM AMAZING front to keep people away. lol because I know him sooo well :)

I did route for Marcel though, because his food looked good and because his doucheyness seemed to come from some sort of sad insecurity, and I thought Ilan's food was pretty consistently boring looking.

dan selzer, Friday, 17 December 2010 17:51 (thirteen years ago) link

no that seems right to me. and probably evidence of an insecure youth or something, i dunno. you always hope that guys like this will lighten the fuck up when they hit 25 or something but w/e

kanellos (gbx), Friday, 17 December 2010 17:52 (thirteen years ago) link

maybe he'll be a really chill 50 year old...

Square-Panted Sponge Robert (VegemiteGrrrl), Friday, 17 December 2010 17:57 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah unsurprisingly I was rooting for the black guy and the hot girl

Tina Tina Cheneuse (DJP), Friday, 17 December 2010 17:57 (thirteen years ago) link

also I wanted... Betty? Marcel's mid-season nemesis with the inconsistent food; I wanted her to stab him.

Tina Tina Cheneuse (DJP), Friday, 17 December 2010 17:58 (thirteen years ago) link

I quite enjoyed shirtless Tre in the Night At the Museum episode <3

Square-Panted Sponge Robert (VegemiteGrrrl), Friday, 17 December 2010 17:59 (thirteen years ago) link

HATED Betty.

dan selzer, Friday, 17 December 2010 18:07 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah betty was the worst

return of the nakh (J0rdan S.), Friday, 17 December 2010 18:08 (thirteen years ago) link

Bringing Mikey back from S2 would have made for more fun, but who knows if he's even cooking these days.

WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Friday, 17 December 2010 18:15 (thirteen years ago) link

spike was never very likeable to me at all

Head to head challenge was fun, the setting was cool and they really got into it.

More then just one story going on with Jamie skating by in a couple challenges by not doing anything and Angelo sabotaging peoples food.

jamie is the worst -- at least angelo can cook

that's why it was hard for me to believe he overcooked a few pieces of salmon

I wanted to eat that soup so bad.

Watched Rick Moonen recreate the dish on the TC website and think I'll give it a try this weekend.

Jamie is the worst of humanity...just UGH its like she has chromic fatigue syndrome. gtfo

Square-Panted Sponge Robert (VegemiteGrrrl), Thursday, 23 December 2010 23:24 (thirteen years ago) link

lol Jamie's cute looking when she talks to the camera

I used to know a guy who looked a lot like Marcel in season 2 (bladey side burns and sprite hair - but my dude was a bit taller and could grow a full beard if he wanted to). My dude is a chill hard rocker guy who was best buds with a tall, skinny, peppy, raver dude (also a cool guy). To make a pointless story short, some badass people can look like sprites. And even though I never saw season 2, I immediately liked Marcel for his looks and real talk. It's just his temper that gets on my nerves... and is starting to make me not like him at all

486.52 (CaptainLorax), Friday, 24 December 2010 00:18 (thirteen years ago) link

Marcel reminds me of Ed Grimley. I think it's the Season 2 hair.

Square-Panted Sponge Robert (VegemiteGrrrl), Friday, 24 December 2010 00:21 (thirteen years ago) link

Tre on the other hand, I didn't remember him but it's easy to like him for the his lightheartedness. Tre is always laughing. I don't know if he is ever egotistical or a jerk (it doesn't seem so) but he didn't even talk sh*t about Angelo messing up his fish - well at least not yet. I mean he had immunity but still

486.52 (CaptainLorax), Friday, 24 December 2010 00:22 (thirteen years ago) link

tre's laugh is annoying, imo
blais being all 'u got an interesting story line' was otm. jaime looked like she bucked up with that but we'll have to see. i like it when dudes just do their best and not fool about with all this strategy shit, gamin. i mean i know it's a game but be a stand up dude and don't fuck around. sabotage is some bullshit, angelo if that's what you did. carla working thru a sliced finger was dope. and spike goin home for not boxing out under pressure was fine with me. i hated that mofo when he was on, but for some reason on this all stars he was less annoying.

coughed @ "j. walter bongstein" (jdchurchill), Friday, 24 December 2010 01:03 (thirteen years ago) link

lol i had my own carla moment a few weeks ago when i chopped my thumb while chopping something. blood! wondered if stitches were needed! wrapped that shit, put on a glove, and powered through to finish my dish. in the end i decided that although the cut was deepish it was probably not stitchable anyway bc it's in an awkward place and it's healing ok now so what i am basically saying is: jamie sucks.

tehresa, Friday, 24 December 2010 01:13 (thirteen years ago) link

totally. unless you cut fucking bone or sever an artery, wrap that shit & keep going.

Square-Panted Sponge Robert (VegemiteGrrrl), Friday, 24 December 2010 01:32 (thirteen years ago) link

jamie is terrible, and pretty clearly trying to game as much as possible.

kanellos (gbx), Friday, 24 December 2010 01:35 (thirteen years ago) link

And what's even the point of being on All Star Top Chef if your whole game plan is 'cook as little as possible'? Fuck her. Srsly.

Square-Panted Sponge Robert (VegemiteGrrrl), Friday, 24 December 2010 01:50 (thirteen years ago) link

i just don't understand why anyone would even bother going on an all-stars show unless they wanted to fight to reclaim their lost glory or whatever.
xpost lol

tehresa, Friday, 24 December 2010 01:51 (thirteen years ago) link

I thought Jaime was hilarious. Also don't comprehend why anyone would let Angelo touch anything on their plate?!?!

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Friday, 24 December 2010 02:37 (thirteen years ago) link

^^^ this. And Spike and Tre of all people. Just shove him out of the way and arm wrestle him to the ground.

Square-Panted Sponge Robert (VegemiteGrrrl), Friday, 24 December 2010 02:42 (thirteen years ago) link

How great was the little behind the scenes clip of Mike dancing? Have a newfound love of Mike now.

Square-Panted Sponge Robert (VegemiteGrrrl), Friday, 24 December 2010 02:43 (thirteen years ago) link

so do they all get lit every night or

kanellos (gbx), Friday, 24 December 2010 06:11 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah they always get drunk in the stew room

i feel like they talk about this on the reunion shows -- sometimes they sit in there for hours just drinking & doing stupid shit like making up games

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 December 2010 06:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Mike is wayyy more likeable this time than on his season!

tehresa, Friday, 24 December 2010 17:58 (thirteen years ago) link

All the contestants, especially Mike, Dale & Spike seem a lot more mellow this time around. That stuffing challenge was some bullshit. Not having utensils was a pointless handicap. the 20K might as well have been handed out at random.

WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Friday, 24 December 2010 18:19 (thirteen years ago) link

'. . . and make sure nobody uses that peppergrinder anymore'

mmm errm mmfff huh (jdchurchill), Friday, 24 December 2010 19:08 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah that stuffing challenge was ridic.

Square-Panted Sponge Robert (VegemiteGrrrl), Friday, 24 December 2010 20:19 (thirteen years ago) link

The stuffing challenge aka the "we give the judges food poisoning" challenge

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Friday, 24 December 2010 20:21 (thirteen years ago) link

lol

Square-Panted Sponge Robert (VegemiteGrrrl), Friday, 24 December 2010 20:24 (thirteen years ago) link

I could see the no utensils twist if it was 'cook an awesome paleo dish' but yeah... random and kinda wtf for stuffing. carla was a+ this ep, had me laughing a lot.

tehresa, Friday, 24 December 2010 20:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Her soup looked great. Didn't Marcus Samuelsson make it on Masters? It was great that she won despite her teammates telling her not to make the dish altogether.

WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Friday, 24 December 2010 20:45 (thirteen years ago) link

i thought the stuffing challenge was hilarious, and a pretty good way to challenge their ingenuity. esp since tre figured out that freezing/crushing is basically the same as chopping, and i think it showed in his dish

kanellos (gbx), Friday, 24 December 2010 21:56 (thirteen years ago) link

Bourdain channeling Debbie Downer:

Fabio improvised a polenta and cheese stuffing by grating cheese on a wire rack shelf, congratulating himself while doing it by commenting "That is genius!!" No, Fabio. Actually, that is "clostridium perfringens," the third most common cause of food poisoning.
