I think we're the only ZZ fans Kenan. Or it's lunchtime.

dan m, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:03 (seventeen years ago) link

no, I think we're alone, lunch or not.

First I convert people to Macs, next I start on the ZZ Top.

kenan, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:05 (seventeen years ago) link

It's good work. It makes me feel good about myself.

kenan, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:06 (seventeen years ago) link

I started on both when I was about 5. Well, they called them Apples then.

dan m, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:06 (seventeen years ago) link

I like ZZ Top! And I like a cheesey heavy metal riff (see: Pyromania love). HOWEVER, Hysteria is short on those riffs and long on... synth drums and rock ballad cliches. I also disagree on the top notchery of the song writing. See: cliches. Also, Love bites? Love bleeds? Ohhhhh kay Joe. Okay.

Not that lyrics were any strong point on any of their previous albums either, admittedly.

I'm with Kevin re: preferring a fiery car wreck over subjecting myself to an entire song from Hysteria. And you have to understand that I had pictures of the whole band over my bed during the Pyromania era.

Jenny, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:25 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm with jenny and it's not like cliches can't work, i mean look at judas priest, AWESOME hooks with the rock 'n' roll cliches and it somehow works.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Maybe I wasn't there and don't understand the divide btwn Pyromania (a cheesy, great record) and Hysteria (a cheesy, really really great record). I mean, they're both grade-A crap. What are we arguing about?

kenan, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:30 (seventeen years ago) link

We're arguing about whether Hysteria is a really, really great record, which seems to be the delusion under which you're operating.

Kenan, how old are you? I thought you were closer to my age. I kind of forgive Jeff for his Hysteria preference because he was of the age to which that record would appeal (see also his preference for Back to the Future II) but old people like Kevin and me know better.

I *heart* Judas Priest. HEART!

Jenny, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:33 (seventeen years ago) link

jenny, i am 32 years old. And Hysteria is the better record. Nyah.

kenan, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:35 (seventeen years ago) link

jenny's like the older sister i never had.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:36 (seventeen years ago) link

Let's talk about Motorhead.

Can we all at least agree the Motorhead is srsly awesome?

kenan, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:36 (seventeen years ago) link

and of course i mean much much older.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:39 (seventeen years ago) link

My backpack mostly had thrash metal logos.

Jordan, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:40 (seventeen years ago) link

I stopped by the tire place to drop off my car but it looks like I'll have one more day on the spare.

While I was there, a younger employee said to an older one "What's your password? I need to void this transaction." The older dude was very hesistant, and then he relented and said very quietly, "...1 2 3 4". lol.

Jordan, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:47 (seventeen years ago) link

A quick aside: what the FUCK is with cyclists being vegans? I like boys, I like bikes, I like boys who like bikes WHO EAT DAIRY, MOTHERFUCKERS.

Laurel, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Also feel free to sub "BACON" for "DAIRY".

Laurel, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:52 (seventeen years ago) link

your first mistake is still being interested in "boys".

although since the "silk pajamas" scandal broke in springfield i've been jonesing to call someone a cougar.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:53 (seventeen years ago) link

It was mostly for the sake of alliteration.

Laurel, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Fashion?

dan m, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Wearing spandex and being vegan are two sides of the same coin.

Jordan, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Or maybe it's "oooh, I'm going to choose an environmentally conscious mode of transportation, why don't I just reduce my consumption even more, fuck you!"

Jordan, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 19:05 (seventeen years ago) link

the thing is, it's not like spandex is so fucking environmentally conscious. just like nonleather shoes aren't. the production of synthetic fabrics involves a lot of energy and creates a lot of pollution, and so vegans carrying on about "vegan shoes" and not wearing wool and shit really fucking irks me.

i will refrain from ranting further.

JuliaA, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 19:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Good point.

I had, like, a clif bar and some thin mints for lunch, but after reading noize I am dying for Indian food. :(

Jordan, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 19:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I had a dumb cold sandwich and dumb reduced fat cheez-its when I want something warm and hearty.

n/a, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 19:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Wild Oats has vegan drawers for sale. Or hemp. Or something.

Eazy, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 19:41 (seventeen years ago) link

I could go for a cappuccino.

SELF LACING NEON NIKES

dan m, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 19:53 (seventeen years ago) link

i had a raspberry iced tea and a bag of chips when i have like a pound and a half of bowtie pasta in a basil/red pepper tomato sauce and a ton of parmesian in the fridge downstairs. but work is conspiring against me. maybe i'll save it for dinner since i'll probably still be here.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 19:53 (seventeen years ago) link

:( are you being barred from your lunch by a meeting again, Kevin? bullshit.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 19:58 (seventeen years ago) link

no, my supervisor is on travel and the person immediately ahead of me on the food chain is at a doctor's appointment and i'm trying to cover both of their desks and still get the MOUNTAIN of work I have to do done. of course i'm still fucking around on the internets though. i am not managing my time effectively.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 19:59 (seventeen years ago) link

Shame on you.

Laurel, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 20:05 (seventeen years ago) link

What's up, Chinamen?

Hey, did you know it's March 6th? And did you know that in Chicago, that means Jeniffer Hudson Day?

Jesse, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 20:35 (seventeen years ago) link

aw Jennifer Hudson

horseshoe, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 20:36 (seventeen years ago) link

Update on the US Bank sign: apparently they let their employees take turns putting whatever they want on the front sign. When Osama's turn came, he decided on "walk like an egyptian." Perfectly reasonable.

Jordan, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 20:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, how about: What the FUCK is up with cyclists being dirty? You're in a job that can result in intense perspiration, so the way to deal with that is to just give up and not bathe? Then stink up my dinner at the Handlebar?

Jesse, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 20:42 (seventeen years ago) link

They have an employee named Osama? That's gotta present some challenges.

Jesse, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 20:43 (seventeen years ago) link

I work with a dude named Osama. I feel guilty for doubting the motivations behind their weird signage.

Jordan, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 20:45 (seventeen years ago) link

There's a salon in HP called Ossama's Hair Design. I think it's at like Hyde Park Blvd and Cornell.

dan m, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 20:53 (seventeen years ago) link

dan, there used to be one on the west side as well, i can't remember if it was damen or ashland or halsted but it was just off van buren and you could see it from 290. it did not fare well in this crazy post 9/11 world.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 21:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Ossama's Hair Design was at the corner of State and Randolph, next to the Chicago Theater and above a Walgreens, before that building got torn down.

Eazy, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 21:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Hair == teh dull

I need a cut. What should I do? I think I have had the same cut pretty much my entire life.

dan m, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 21:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Dye it? No, don't do that.

That's what you get when you already have the perfect hairstyle, Dan.

KitCat, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 22:23 (seventeen years ago) link

There's an Osama Hair Design on Dearborn, south of Jackson.

Speaking of gross things bike messengers do, I saw a dude MOUNTAIN BLOW all over the sidewalk in front of me and I was like, "Whoa, dude, gross" and then I saw the Chrome bag and then I realized he had just locked up a bike and I was like "Ohhhhh... bike messenger" and I was no longer surprised or particularly offended since, you know, they are filthy vegans, generally.

Julia, you should rant MORE, just generally.

Jenny, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 22:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Hi, have you READ this thread?

Laurel, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 22:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Also: there's a kind of vegan that doesn't wear WOOL??

Laurel, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 22:33 (seventeen years ago) link

"I'm a level 5 vegan. I won't eat anything that casts a shadow."

dan m, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 22:37 (seventeen years ago) link

the sandman is sending me a special gift
a sleepy dream memory of our first kiss
cast a shadow in my direction
cast a shadow in my dierction
