also, i really love the name "cougar" for a band since the recent silk pajamas scandal.

Apparently they're a post-punk band on Warp.

silk pajamas scandal.

Waht?

Jordan, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 22:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Hi clowns.

Well, today I say, Welcome back, iTunes. You say it will be different this time, and that we can make it work, but have you really changed since we've been apart? It's been long enough that I forgot exactly why I hated you so, but my iPod came between me and Winamp, so I am driven back into your arms. Don't hurt me this time, please?

Jesse, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 22:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey, by the way, is this sort of my ILX thumbnail sketch?

also, when i think of jesse i hear his voice but i hear him making absurd comments like "i invented the exclamation point" or "do you like my vest? it's made from shoelaces."

silk pajamas scandal.

Waht?

up until last week i was blissfully unaware that the female equivilant of a chickenhawk is a cougar.

Maxim0 P4rk is pretty good, the best of that whole bunch of recent British "post-punk" guitar bands anyway. Really tight, catchy tunes. I was just listening to their forthcoming disc, really good. Check out "Apply Some Pressure", "Going Missing", or "The Coast Is Always Changing" for a good taste.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 22:10 (seventeen years ago) link

I kind of love "Apply Some Pressure" -- like I was kind of obsessed with it for a couple weeks about a year ago -- but the only other thing I've heard is the new single, which isn't as good but still cool.

jaymc, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 22:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Um, was there a TT plan? I can't spend much, and maybe it was metnioned upthread, but I missed it, but I would like to maybe have a beer or 12.

Jesse, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 23:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Jesse, it is Wednesday.

Jesse, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 23:11 (seventeen years ago) link

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 23:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Jesse is tripping.

Jenny, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 23:15 (seventeen years ago) link

HOLY FUCKING FUCK.

Jesse, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 23:18 (seventeen years ago) link

These collards be GOOOOD. I used 2 big smoked pork neck bones in a relatively small pot of greens, and sisters, that made it amazing. I seem to recall someone on this thread saying something once about how adding meat to veggies is unnecessary because they taste good on their own (maybe about lentils), and that's true, but this is beyond perfection.

Jesse, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 23:20 (seventeen years ago) link

I was reading about how collards online and the article said something about how delicious the "likker" (the water it's boiled in) and that's v. true. This is a beverage.

Jesse, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 23:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Drinking pot likker is a very southern thing to do.

Jenny, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 23:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Ack, long day... seeya folks.

Is that what you gay.com profile headline is?

Jenny, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 23:30 (seventeen years ago) link

My dad used to use the term "pot licker" as a pejorative.

The Lake Isle Of Innisfree

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made:
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honeybee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight's all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet's wings.
I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep heart's core.

I'm an enigma wrapped in a mystery, enveloped in ass-folds.

Jesse, Thursday, 8 March 2007 01:35 (seventeen years ago) link

Oy.

How did I end up with so many duplicate files?? Fortunately iTunes has a "show duplicates" function. Unfortunately, the only way to remove duplicates without accidentaly removing say a remix or live version of a song with the same title) is to go through and do it manually.

Show Duplicates beginning: 4900-some
Show Duplicates now: 1003

That's about 3,900 clicks.

Jesse, Thursday, 8 March 2007 02:33 (seventeen years ago) link

I've spent a good couple hours pruning out my duplicates, too. My main problem is that one version of the song might be on a playlist, and so I want to make sure that that one stays, or else the playlist is fucked.

jaymc, Thursday, 8 March 2007 03:41 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh. Now I remember one reason iTunes is the Devil. I want to hear "Tin Man" by America. But this computer is not authorized to play that song because I bought the fucker from iTunes store and I don't remember my password.

Jesse, Thursday, 8 March 2007 04:21 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm going through iTunes hell right now too. Trying to fill up my new iPod, but most of my music is on an external hard drive and iTunes doesn't know where the tunes are half the time. Also my laptop can only run iTunes for like 10 minutes before overheating and crashing. :( :( :(

Jordan, Thursday, 8 March 2007 05:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Someone on Jenny's other (dead) board said it best: "iTunes runs like a fat kid in gym class."

My music is on my external HD also, but I just relocated my official iTunes Music folder there.

My iTunes question: Is there some way to make the library automatically recognize changes in the Music folder? When I add stuff I have to manually go to File --> Add Folder (or file) to Library -->[file or folder name]. Also, when I move things around (e.g., if half of 1 album is under The Arcade Fire, and the other half is under Arcade Fire, and I consolidate them into one folder) then I still have to do it manually.

Is this just how it is?

(I went to ilounge.com and didn't see any answers to my problem.)

Jesse, Thursday, 8 March 2007 05:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Why are you using itunes again?

"iTunes runs like a fat kid in gym class."

HA!

Unless you have a Mac or a gig of ram. In which case it's lurvely.

kenan, Thursday, 8 March 2007 13:30 (seventeen years ago) link

I have the new Maximo Park album; it starts out strong but loses energy after the first few songs. And I thought they were French, not British?

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:07 (seventeen years ago) link

They sound British though. Very Futureheads-y.

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Maxïmo Park are an English indie rock band, signed to Warp Records, who formed in 2003. Drawing comparisons to Pulp and Franz Ferdinand, Maxïmo Park were, along with cohorts The Futureheads, North-East England's response to the post-punk revival of the 2000s.

Kitten is at the vet awaiting fixing. I forgot to not feed her last night, oops.

Jordan, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Did you tell the vet that?

Jenny, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:17 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, they said it's okay, they'll just do her later in the morning.

Jordan, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Nick, you must have been confused by the diaresis over the "i."

jaymc, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Oops, vet just called, it's a no go b/c she didn't fast long enough. I am dumb.

Jordan, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Huh, I could have sworn that I read they were French somewheres. I wish I had the north English accent that the Futureheads and Field Music have.

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Drat, Jordan! It's okay, though. That's an easy mistake to make, plus it's better that they don't do it then risk something bad happening. She might get diaresis or something.

Jenny, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Diaresis of a Madman was probably my favorite ozzy album.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Really? My favorite peanut butter-based candy item is Diaresis' Pieces.
