Okay, cool.

Jordan, Thursday, 8 March 2007 15:46 (seventeen years ago) link

One of the best Hoot Night performances I ever saw was for the "Tom, Dick, and Harry" theme, and some band I don't even recall did the title track from Marquee Moon (the Tom in question being T. Verlaine), all 10+ minutes of it, with every solo completely faithful to the original. It was awesome.

jaymc, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:00 (seventeen years ago) link

okay and by the way
i want to say that
i think you're great and
i know what people say
you're a heartbreaker
it's just your way

chicago kevin, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:00 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm in the high point of my night, I feel so impressive, life,
All this time with the Marquee Moon, but just waitin'.

i saw television at the metro about years ago (so long ago that i think hstencil and towga watched from the balcony while i was on the floor) and there was a dude in front of me who had to be 50 who was TOTALLY overemotive during marquee moon and venus de milo. with flailing air guitar and everything. in the middle of a packed metro floor.

I've bragged about this before, but I have the Elektra promo copy of that record from my college radio station. When I was a freshman, the Programming Director got rid of a lot of vinyl that they replaced with CDs. The record is beat to shit and the sleeve is held together with duct tape. I have mp3s too and they sound better.

At the same vinyl giveaway I also got The Joshua Tree and Bossanova. These are also beat up, though not quite as badly.

dan m, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:08 (seventeen years ago) link

i don't think i own it anymore. i know i bought the vinyl at reckless after i broke my cd but i think that wound up in california during the division of assets.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:15 (seventeen years ago) link

wait, i do own it because i wound up with her copy of the cd.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:16 (seventeen years ago) link

It's one of the few albums we own on both CD and LP. The only other one I can think of off the top of my head is "Do the Math" by the Peechees.

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Deep deep deep deep doodoodoo
Deep deep deep deep doodoodoo
Deep deep deep-a-deep-deep, deep-a-deep-deep, deep-a-deep-deep doo
Deep deep deep deep doodoodoo
Deep deep deep deep doodoodoo
Deep deep deep-a-deep-deep, deep-a-deep-deep, deep-a-deep-deep doo

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Name that tune.

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:19 (seventeen years ago) link

It's not by Television or the Peechees.

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Or Peaches.

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:23 (seventeen years ago) link

My first thought was "Glass" by Gang of Four, but then I think that's more like

Deep deep deep deep deep-a-doo-doo.

jaymc, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:25 (seventeen years ago) link

"Deep Doodoo" by the Shit Shovelers

kenan, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:26 (seventeen years ago) link

"Deep in the Heart of Texas"

dan m, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:26 (seventeen years ago) link

It's an instrumental.

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Stereolab?

Jeff, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Getting warmer...

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:28 (seventeen years ago) link

It was "Popcorn" by Hot Butter.

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:32 (seventeen years ago) link

Well that was exciting.

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:35 (seventeen years ago) link

I have no idea who that is.

dan m, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:47 (seventeen years ago) link

Nice work, Nick.

jaymc, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:50 (seventeen years ago) link

(Dan, it was a novelty hit in the early 70s. You've probably heard it.)

jaymc, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:50 (seventeen years ago) link

It made extensive use of the Moog synthesizer, and has an awesome drumbeat.

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:52 (seventeen years ago) link

It isn't really that good though.

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Not to keep harping on C0ugar but some local dude posted this:

You know how Television has 10 or 12 distinct styles/moods?

C0ugar is doing one of them. On the plus side, they are doing that one mood very well. On the minus side, if you aren't interested in that one mood there's nothing else there.

Fuck. Television was such a great band. More bands should emulate them.

No idea if he's in the right ballpark or not but I'm guessing no.

Jordan, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:53 (seventeen years ago) link

He lost me at "10 or 12 distinct styles/moods."

jaymc, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah. WTF?

KitCat, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:59 (seventeen years ago) link

Hm, I didn't recognize the song on itunes but I don't think they had the HOTT BUTTER version.

Shuffle mode is grebt:

"No Way Out" - Sebadoh
"Today has Been a Fucked Up Day" - Beck
"Krug Calling Retik" - GRAVITAR
"Stuck on Pussy Drive" - Kool Keith
"Sleep" - Dystopia

dan m, Thursday, 8 March 2007 17:01 (seventeen years ago) link

COME ON GUYS EVERYONE KNOWS THAT

dan m, Thursday, 8 March 2007 17:01 (seventeen years ago) link

If gnuILX had avatars I think I would have a Gravitar avatar.

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 17:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Come on guys, spring is on the verge of springing.

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 17:39 (seventeen years ago) link

can not play ipod at work anymore because all "non encrypeted external drives" are now banned from being attached to gvt owned workstations here. ;_;

chicago kevin, Thursday, 8 March 2007 17:40 (seventeen years ago) link

yesterday i saw my first robin of the season, i was just outside and saw multiple robins meaning spring is even closer. i'm guessing.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 8 March 2007 17:41 (seventeen years ago) link

I have these stupid earphones that have buds on the end that are like the earplugs that you roll up and then they expand in your ear. They are stupid because the earplug parts keep falling off. I finally managed to lose one of them today and so I borrowed Sarah's earphones to bring with me but they sound so bad and tinny I can't listen to music with them.

n/a, Thursday, 8 March 2007 17:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Spring won't spring for 2 months. Don't be fool by the forecast.

Jeff, Thursday, 8 March 2007 17:46 (seventeen years ago) link

kenan, Thursday, 8 March 2007 18:01 (seventeen years ago) link

dan m, Thursday, 8 March 2007 18:03 (seventeen years ago) link
