Bill Paxton motherfucker who looks like he has some crazy stories about getting drunk with jim cameron in 1983

I had no idea Nathan Patrelli had an acting career prior to "Heroes"!

As an eight-year-old, Bill Paxton was in the crowd waving when President John F. Kennedy emerged from the Hotel Texas in Ft. Worth, Texas, on the morning of Nov. 22, 1963. There are pictures at the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas where the young Paxton can clearly be seen astride the shoulders of an unidentified man.

RONG, Bill Pullman all the way. Who cares if Paxton was killed by Alien/Predator/Terminator? Pullman would've kicked all their asses, that's why he wasn't cast in the first place!

Nah, Pullman in Lost Highway is fab though

Pullman would just play a dude that got mistaken for Michael Douglas in those movies...

no but compared to pretty much every other romcom since it pretty much rules.

ikr, the graphics and tech is incredibly laughable, he sleeps in a box naked, has a sideshow bob-esque hatred of TV - actually, now that I think of it, there's not a single thing I don't like about that series.

I really wish HBO would serialize Stephen King's "The Stand"...so I could forget the crappy watered down cable miniseries

aero w. smith (Neanderthal), Sunday, 19 June 2011 23:05 (twelve years ago) link

I didn't realize you hadn't seen Near Dark, Traveller, Frailty, Trespass, A Simple Plan...also I got a soft spot for middle-american secret-weirdo actors like Paxton, Dennis Quaid, Jeff Daniels, etc

― da croupier, Sunday, June 19, 2011 8:50 AM (10 hours ago) Bookmark

^^ was said to me in response to my Paxton diss in the HBO thread that helped inspire this thread and uh...it's more or less right since the only one of those i've seen is A Simple Plan, which i liked but don't necessarily think rested on Paxton's shoulders.

Spaceballs is probably doing a lot of the heavy lifting in my preference for Pullman, and i love Zero Effect if not so much for his performance

Helen Girly Drown (Whiney G. Weingarten) (some dude), Sunday, 19 June 2011 23:17 (twelve years ago) link

fun fact of no relevance whatsoever: Bill Paxton played Wyatt Earp's brother in Tombstone the year before Bill Pullman played Bat Masterson's brother in Wyatt Earp

Helen Girly Drown (Whiney G. Weingarten) (some dude), Sunday, 19 June 2011 23:24 (twelve years ago) link

Pullman's such a dullard, I don't know what he's really good for, aside from maybe being like the poor man's Michael Douglas, in the same way that Charlie Sheen used to be the poor man's Tom Cruise. (Except that Sheen was always BETTER than Cruise, even back in the days when Tom was the crazy one.)

Paxton, though - classic alone for the bits in Aliens when he goes all sissy. And for being dosed with angel dust while filming Titanic.

feel like this is the reason ilx polls exist tbh

you are correct sir

inexplicably, pullman is going to be in the new season of "torchwood" they're doing on starz. he's the villain, so that lowers the likelihood of him making out with john barrowman to say 30% or so.

I have seen While You were Sleeping. It's . . . not good.

aw i loved this movie back in the day, me and mom would watch it all the time. bill pullman's grandma was the suffragette mom from mary poppins!

From wikipedia:
Paxton has the distinction of being one of only two actors, the other being Lance Henriksen, who has starred alongside an Alien, a Predator, and a Terminator. He further holds a distinct honor of being the only actor to have been "killed" by all three, as each of his characters in these films meets his end during conflict with the lead antagonists.

one year passes...

watched "dead alive," which might be the only movie with pullman and paxton, with some chilx pals on saturday. pullman is definitely the star, but paxton has some substantial scenes, and it's kind of archetypical roles for both - pullman is nerdy and nervous, paxton is brash and swarmy. great movie if you haven't seen it, also has a creepy bud cort in a big role.

Pullman is aloof, arch, it almost always comes across to me like "I can't really act" acting which is fine, of course, but it doesn't work for me in his case. Paxton does the opposite really, or tries to, and it works for me. But maybe that's just cos I find him hot.

Well, bummer news indeed about Paxton. What a sad way to pass as well, after complications from surgery. He made a mark for sure.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 26 February 2017 15:52 (seven years ago) link

Oh no! I just listened to Dean Delray's* interview with him last week and was starting to work my way through his roles. Damn, what a bummer.

*It was amazing because it felt like Delray had finally found a guest who actually complimented his (often distracting) voice.
