(OH, I forgot to tell you. I picked up Charlotte-Douglas airport cards for you, and, well, a certain ex roommate of yours, for very obvious reasons... Charlotte NC was my transfer point between Seattle and Raleigh/Durham.. RDU has no airport cards of their own, sadly.)

This is the most unplanned trip I've ever taken, I think. I'm really just going to be flying in and figuring out things from there, although I am planning to show up for the Stapleton DJ set on Sunday. Most of my brain cells are given over to trying to decide whether I want to buy an iPod in time to take with me.

I don't know where the milk shakes and cows thing came from. That sounds boring even for me.
I plan to be at the Baltic Room Sunday night.

That durian popsicle was some kind of nasty.
Ate at Salumi today (porchetta, fabulous) and since I was in the neighborhood and there was a day game, went to the Angels-Mariners. 10-9 final, 31 hits total. Got my money's worth, plus K-Rod (who blew up).
Ned, I was at Easy Street Records yesterday and almost bought the Fall Peel Sessions box on yr. review. The Seattle free weeklies, they're just another place where ILXors hang out, eh?

I did a lot of walking and a lot of eating and a lot of going to baseball games and a little bit of finding interesting beers. It was so hot and humid when I got off the plane this evening I almost gagged.

The porchetta was good, but I wish I'd tried one of the sausages instead. A guy sitting next to me had the meatball sandwich and it didn't look tempting. I got the seat at the very end of the table at the back, so I could watch the melee at the counter.
Downtown Seattle smells like really good barbecue.

while you're there, I'd consider checking out the University (U)District, including the student corridor around 45th and University Way (the Ave), with a couple of great movie theatres, the campus (with two good small museums - the Burke and the Henry), and a lake-waterfront area that includes a section of a great jogging/biking trail, the University's fish hatchery, and a great Mexican restaurant/kayak club.

the (inside of the) library is highly worthwhile.
I think Pioneer Square isn't all that exciting, but it's old and pretty in parts and has the aforementioned Salumi, the great Elliot Bay book co, and Bud's Jazz records (small, vinyl-focused).
also a good idea - take the monorail from downtown to seattle center to see the Needle and EMP. the Fun Forest amusement park is a little forlorn-looking but charming. walk around here - there's nice landscaping, sculpture and some views, as well as good architecture in the Pacific Science Center (mostly for kids, but possibly worth admission for the longhouse alone), Northwest Rooms, and the Intiman Theatre (which is quite good). from there, you can walk to the Queen Anne branch of Easy Street Records.

Jeez, the baseball con basics are more expensive than last year ... I may stay downtown just for convenience, and hike it to the DoubleHeader, Eagle etc. (yes I'm in NYC, and I hike the hills of SF fairly easily when I go.

Not a Seattle-centric revive, but -- I'm going to get in my truck and wander the country for a few days next week. Anybody east of the Mississippi want to meet up?

One insane idea I had was going to Seattle for one of the King Crimson shows. Trip could involve going to the San Jose (Morgan Hill) area to meet up with my boss (travel expense writeoff!) -- she has a ton of small office chores and workflow issues due to being a semi-Luddite with a 12-year-old laptop.
― Malibu Stasi (WilliamC), Monday, 1 September 2014 17:50 (ten years ago) link
I'm gonna be in Seattle on and off for a few weeks leading up to then, I guarantee drink-uppening getting organised if you do go
― boney tassel (sic), Tuesday, 2 September 2014 06:59 (ten years ago) link
Welp, looks like this may be off. The work trip is pushed back to next Feb. or March, at least, and my relaxed September is getting busier every hour.
