Fergie has a new song called just plain "Glamorous."

jaymc, Friday, 9 March 2007 18:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Yep. Sheila E.

KitCat, Friday, 9 March 2007 18:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Sarah, yes! it hadn't occurred to me before, but now that you point it out, they do seem really similar.

horseshoe, Friday, 9 March 2007 18:03 (seventeen years ago) link

I tapdanced to it when I was wee. I wore the black and white costume pictured here.

KitCat, Friday, 9 March 2007 18:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Listening to it on YouTube now. And yeah, I totally hear it -- it's just the sax part, I think, but it's very similar.

jaymc, Friday, 9 March 2007 18:04 (seventeen years ago) link

The quality of those pix is horrendous. It was a horrible scan job I did a few years ago. They make me look freakish. I was actually very cute, I swear.

KitCat, Friday, 9 March 2007 18:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Thanks for not correcting me! HA!

Anyway, I'm pumped for my Love's wrap.

KitCat, Friday, 9 March 2007 18:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Glamorous Life is great. Prince wrote it and Digd0wn recorded it on an album before I was in the band.

Jordan, Friday, 9 March 2007 18:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Fucking iTunes on my fucking laptop. I tried ripping some more Field Music, it got through five more songs and then just started hanging. Then I tried burning a cd for deej and 10 seconds from the end it sighed and turned itself off.

It really makes me want to spend hundreds of dollars on a new computer just to be able to listen to music for fun without hassle.

Jordan, Friday, 9 March 2007 19:05 (seventeen years ago) link

The new Field Music is probably my favorite album of 2007 so far.

jaymc, Friday, 9 March 2007 19:06 (seventeen years ago) link

it is so beautiful outside right now chicago. the air is warm! WARM!!! the breeze felt great across my face, like having someone stroke my cheek with the back of their fingers. it was sublime.

chicago kevin, Friday, 9 March 2007 19:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, I just walked up to 57th and back for a haircut and on the way back to work I took my jacket OFF.

dan m, Friday, 9 March 2007 19:20 (seventeen years ago) link

aw yay! I haven't been outside yet, but something to look forward to!

horseshoe, Friday, 9 March 2007 19:21 (seventeen years ago) link

Perhaps you were touched by an angel.

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 19:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, I was just outside. It's beautiful.

jaymc, Friday, 9 March 2007 19:33 (seventeen years ago) link

A coworker brought in choco-chip brownies (!). Today is a good day.

KitCat, Friday, 9 March 2007 19:38 (seventeen years ago) link

I will be bolting out of here at 5, hopefully to home in time to open up the apartment before it gets dark and cold.

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 19:43 (seventeen years ago) link

I did a lot of work this morning. Isn't that enough for a Friday? Why can't I go home? WHY?

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 19:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Groan. Someone somewhere in the production line is giving out my phone number to astronomy authors and telling them I'm an ".eps Expert". This is not good.

dan m, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:10 (seventeen years ago) link

What would an eps expert be, anyway? Able to identify and open them?

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Don't much much about astronomy.

KitCat, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Nah, these people use all kinds of kludged-together software to generate PostScript, and quite often don't have access to things like Illustrator. Getting the bounding boxes, fonts, line styles, and colors to work with these things can be an amazing headache sometimes.

dan m, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:16 (seventeen years ago) link

xpost to Sarah: Me either! :)

dan m, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:17 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm sure I've told you this story before, but my freshman year of college I took a course in Cosmology and another course in Astronomy. My dad misheard me and thought I was taking Cosmetology and Astrology. Oh, Dads.

KitCat, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:17 (seventeen years ago) link

I bet.

Cosmetology and Astrology

Those sound like they would go well together! At least, they would if you were Frenchy from Grease.

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Ahh, I have to do MY 2 year review today (even though it's been almost 3 years) and I just realized that I have to fill out a review of my TL. Due in a few minutes. I hate doing this stuff, and really I don't have any criticisms (that I can state, anyway).

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:26 (seventeen years ago) link

hey chicago...happy almost spring!

sweet tater, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:27 (seventeen years ago) link

(reappropriated from the Idiocracy thread. I think the thread is funnier than the movie.)

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:28 (seventeen years ago) link

hey kels! Is it as pretty in MN as it is here?

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:28 (seventeen years ago) link

it is! it's 45 out, according to the internets. I walked outside without a coat on. I feel more alive!

sweet tater, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm thinking about going to see The Host tonight.

jaymc, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Hi, Kelsey! How is training?

KitCat, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I am totally going for a run outside instead of at the gym, thanks to this thread!

horseshoe, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I can't find that on IMDB, John. Is it older?

KitCat, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:32 (seventeen years ago) link

Funny you should ask, Sarah . . . it hasn't been happening much these days. I got the flu a couple of weeks ago, was out of work for a week & am only now feeling kinda normal. I've mostly struggled with waking up early this week. That's next week's goal.

sweet tater, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:32 (seventeen years ago) link

I also want to take advantage of getting off work at 5 and going somewhere and having a beer or something. 5!!!

jaymc, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:32 (seventeen years ago) link

oh my god! you're right! i could run outside!! maybe i will do that tonight . . . just a quick little jog for 20 minutes or something. i signed up for a 5K in april & i need to train eventually.

sweet tater, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:33 (seventeen years ago) link

is the host the one in the nytimes today? whatever that one was, it sounded good. 300, on the other hand, sounds dreadful.

sweet tater, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I can't find that on IMDB, John. Is it older?

No, it's a new Korean monster movie.

jaymc, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:34 (seventeen years ago) link

What's the deal with 300? It's based on a comic book or something? I've only seen the posters on bus stops, but I get the impression that a lot of people are anticipating it.

jaymc, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:36 (seventeen years ago) link

It's based on a Frank Miller comic which I think makes it more 'buzzy' than any ol' comic.

sweet tater, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Whenever I see an ad for it, I think of

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/a1/Movie_mr_3000_poster.jpg/200px-Movie_mr_3000_poster.jpg

jaymc, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, the TV ads for The Host are pitching it as another bloody American horror movie, and downplaying it's Korean-ness, and picking quotes that make it sounds all serious-scary, when in fact there are many more quotes talking about how funny and absurd and genre-bending and clever it is.
