(reappropriated from the Idiocracy thread. I think the thread is funnier than the movie.)

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:28 (seventeen years ago) link

hey kels! Is it as pretty in MN as it is here?

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:28 (seventeen years ago) link

it is! it's 45 out, according to the internets. I walked outside without a coat on. I feel more alive!

sweet tater, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm thinking about going to see The Host tonight.

jaymc, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Hi, Kelsey! How is training?

KitCat, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I am totally going for a run outside instead of at the gym, thanks to this thread!

horseshoe, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I can't find that on IMDB, John. Is it older?

KitCat, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:32 (seventeen years ago) link

Funny you should ask, Sarah . . . it hasn't been happening much these days. I got the flu a couple of weeks ago, was out of work for a week & am only now feeling kinda normal. I've mostly struggled with waking up early this week. That's next week's goal.

sweet tater, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:32 (seventeen years ago) link

I also want to take advantage of getting off work at 5 and going somewhere and having a beer or something. 5!!!

jaymc, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:32 (seventeen years ago) link

oh my god! you're right! i could run outside!! maybe i will do that tonight . . . just a quick little jog for 20 minutes or something. i signed up for a 5K in april & i need to train eventually.

sweet tater, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:33 (seventeen years ago) link

is the host the one in the nytimes today? whatever that one was, it sounded good. 300, on the other hand, sounds dreadful.

sweet tater, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I can't find that on IMDB, John. Is it older?

No, it's a new Korean monster movie.

jaymc, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:34 (seventeen years ago) link

What's the deal with 300? It's based on a comic book or something? I've only seen the posters on bus stops, but I get the impression that a lot of people are anticipating it.

jaymc, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:36 (seventeen years ago) link

It's based on a Frank Miller comic which I think makes it more 'buzzy' than any ol' comic.

sweet tater, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Whenever I see an ad for it, I think of

jaymc, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, the TV ads for The Host are pitching it as another bloody American horror movie, and downplaying it's Korean-ness, and picking quotes that make it sounds all serious-scary, when in fact there are many more quotes talking about how funny and absurd and genre-bending and clever it is.

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:41 (seventeen years ago) link

"300" will finally turn all you metrosexual men to Kinsey M4Ms, apparently. or to fascists ready to conquer Iran.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:41 (seventeen years ago) link

Are any of us "metrosexual"?

dan m, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:42 (seventeen years ago) link

"300" will remain unseen by this particular faggo.

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:42 (seventeen years ago) link

jayms, I think 300 was another Frank Miller comic, and has been given the same frame-for-frame treatment as Sin City?

elmo argonaut, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Are any of us "metrosexual"?

Depends. Do you moisturize?

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:43 (seventeen years ago) link

I haven't seen any TV ads for The Host. I think I saw the trailer for it before Children of Men and then read a rave review from Anthony Lane in The New Yorker.

jaymc, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes, but otherwise my elbows crack so bad they bleed in the wintertime. And in that case, we're all the same... on the inside.

dan m, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:45 (seventeen years ago) link

The Host looks good. Maybe I'll go later this weekend.

n/a, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:45 (seventeen years ago) link

i have a feeling that the next 98 minutes are going to c-r-a-w-l.

chicago kevin, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:53 (seventeen years ago) link

We could see it tonight, Nick.

This movie is currently playing at: Century 12 and CineArts 6 | Crown Village 18 | Landmark's Century Centre | River East 21

KitCat, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:53 (seventeen years ago) link

i got 127, buddy. I don't wanna hear it.

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:53 (seventeen years ago) link

i've already been here for 6 hours 56 minutes is the thing though.

chicago kevin, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Or we could go see Pan's L at the Davis:

Pan's Labyrinth
Daily 5:20, 7:40, 10:00; Sa-Su also 12:40, 3:00

KitCat, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:54 (seventeen years ago) link

someone remarked to me last week how no one would ever use the word metrosexual seriously, and i agreed with her but i guess i stand corrected

Mr. Que, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:55 (seventeen years ago) link

i might argue that kenan embraces elements of metrosexuality.

sweet tater, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:58 (seventeen years ago) link

i prefer "urbansexual". i don't like to go to the outlying metropolitan areas.

chicago kevin, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:59 (seventeen years ago) link

ha!

sweet tater, Friday, 9 March 2007 21:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah I have no time for those suburbsexuals.

dan m, Friday, 9 March 2007 21:04 (seventeen years ago) link

ruralsexuals pretty themselves up for the livestock?

chicago kevin, Friday, 9 March 2007 21:05 (seventeen years ago) link

"Suburbsexual" reminds me of a Todd Solondz movie.

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 21:07 (seventeen years ago) link

The "sexurbs".

Laurel, Friday, 9 March 2007 21:08 (seventeen years ago) link

The "sexurbs". next on cinemax after dark...

chicago kevin, Friday, 9 March 2007 21:09 (seventeen years ago) link

The only resemblance there is in the torso.

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 21:18 (seventeen years ago) link

OMG "Dave" Beckham!

"Dave 'Haircut' Beckham"

dan m, Friday, 9 March 2007 21:32 (seventeen years ago) link

I am going to see 300 tonight w/Ev4n. I'm actually not super-excited (never read the comic) but he's been counting the days. From the trailers it looks like a MANPILE.

I'm interested in The Host.

Jordan, Friday, 9 March 2007 21:41 (seventeen years ago) link

I liked Sin City as a kind of self-parody (which I'm not sure he meant it as), but Frank Miller is about as arrested-adolescent as they come.

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 21:43 (seventeen years ago) link

I beieve he is Men. He is the embodiment of what people mean when they disdainfully say, "Men." Jessa has a fun story about his old, gross ass trying to get her back to his hotel room.

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 21:45 (seventeen years ago) link

For violent sodomy, one assumes.

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 21:45 (seventeen years ago) link

hott.

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 21:46 (seventeen years ago) link

He looks like an aging futbol hooligan.

dan m, Friday, 9 March 2007 21:47 (seventeen years ago) link

I think that's essentially the idea.

kenan, Friday, 9 March 2007 21:47 (seventeen years ago) link

all words on ILX are used "seriously"
