the overstretched transparency is probably accidental

I'm sorry but I have a really hard time believing all the girls prancing around in leggings worn or stretched so thin that you can literally see their ass cheeks are doing so intentionally. I think most know they're tight obv but not transparent. I think maybe they since they get dressed indoors where the lighting is diff they don't realize exactly how much is on display.

Uggs are awful. Always have been and always will be.
I almost can't believe that people still buy them.

yeah I think ENBB otm here, these types of materials can look way different in direct sunlight than they do in a semi-dark bedroom in the early morning

I think girls wear them becuase they're comfortable tbh! Not nec because they are so form-fitting specifically.― It means why you gotta be a montague? (Laurel), Tuesday, January 10, 2012 12:06 PM Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink

Maybe - I still think they are a trend because of the appearance/aesthetic - but would you agree that you'd have to be aware of the form-fittingness if you were wearing them? Again, I haven't worn a lot of these things myself. (i'm male btw)
― Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 17:10 (twelve years ago) link
Baggy ones that give the opposite of camel-toe are, if anything, worse.

wouldn't you also be aware of it because you've seen a million other people wearing this exact same style?
― Moodles, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 17:11 (twelve years ago) link
do nudists even exist anymore? when my grandpa died, my grandma tried to date a little bit and one of her dates took her to a nudist colony, just like in that golden girls episode. the 70s were a wonderful time.
― La Lechera, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 17:11 (twelve years ago) link
Long sweater would be fine!!! Looooong sweater. One that covers YOUR ASS, FOR INSTANCE. Also that is not camel-toe, that is a NORMAL HUMAN CROTCH, and that is exactly why the too-short top is a problem.
― It means why you gotta be a montague? (Laurel), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 17:12 (twelve years ago) link

In Ibiza last September there were plenty of nudists.
― Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 17:14 (twelve years ago) link
Yes, the reason this look works with the long sweater is that there is something left to the imagination, it isn't all on display. Its like boots and big, baggy sweater are v formless but theres just this hint of shapeliness between the calves and mid-thigh that sets it all off. I don't know, really trying to describe why I like this without sounding pervy and its kinda difficult.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 17:14 (twelve years ago) link
i thought camel toe was just when you can see somones NORMAL HUMAN CROTCH through their cloths
― Aerosol, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 17:15 (twelve years ago) link
I sort of like the giant moon boot shape in contrast w a close-fitting leg, it's space-suity from the future and/or kind of a super-hero look that I can dig. Those clunky video-game boots are out there, and if people like that look THEY SHOULD GO GET SOME from their local techno goth-serving emporium.
Uggs are just slovenly.
― It means why you gotta be a montague? (Laurel), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 17:15 (twelve years ago) link
Sometimes though, the long sweater comes off a bit like they were in a rush and forgot to put pants on.
― Moodles, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 17:15 (twelve years ago) link
maybe leggings with a too-short top is the closest that puritanical americans can get to nudism
― La Lechera, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 17:16 (twelve years ago) link
No, camel-toe is when the garment is so tight that the center seam causes a visible vertical separation of the outer genitalia.

Yeah, camel toe is when fabric gets sucked up in between the lips.
lol
― Aerosol, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 17:18 (twelve years ago) link
(Let me be clear that I do think it looks gross when the material itself is thin and stretched and you see this diffraction screen of black leggings muddled with whatever the person's flesh tone is, as seen in some of the examples upthread - that is UGH, not UGGS. I just like the idea of a trend where people are into the butt curvature being expressed as a plastic, sculptural composition - the masterly, correct and magnificent play of forms in light, let's say.)
xxxpost yeah yeah - more those kind of huge, overkill mukluk things than the stripped-down hangover Uggs.

The whole leggings-with-chunky boots thing is the apres ski look, as remy noted up-thread. Those women's ski pants are/were pretty thick iirc, like practically made of neoprene or at least something that wd protect you from cold and ice-scrapes if you wiped out.
The modern interpretation uses way thinner fabrics than those things ever did.

I think I got those Moon Boots specifically when we went skiing. OMG I just had a weird flashback of my mom rocking the big fur boots with her ski bottoms. You know, the ones that look like Shitzus?

I bought a pair of skinny jeans in comfortable fabric & got them home to find they had no fly or pockets = alas! jeggings!
Super comfy though. I tend not to wear them out except with my longest sweater or oversize flannel. It still feels a little too close to quasi nudity. Short top? OH HELL NO.

Aesthetically Uggs are not too great but damned if I'm not crazy envious of women wearing tall Uggs with skirts while waiting for the train on very cold days. The look so warm and soft. I also assume these women change into normal shoes when they arrive at their destination.
And I'm not sure I'm any better looking in my flats or non-Uggs and long socks or leg warmers over tights or leggings.

Funny thread! I bought my 7 year old niece a pair of Uggs for Christmas and that's where they belong, on Children. When I last went to Austin, T and I saw endless girls wearing baby T shirts with leggings and dress shoes. It's sort of embarrassing. A long shirt or sweater yeah, but one girl's shirt fell above the top of her leggings.
― JacobSanders, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:45 (twelve years ago) link
I worked in a University that seems to be particularly well known for its annoying students a few years ago and around 08-09 every other girl was walking around wearing tights as leggings (with nothing long over the top). They also wore PJ bottoms in the gym. I pretty much turned into my mother overnight.
I really hate the fashion industry for basically forcing me to wear leggings due to 99% of dresses in regular shops that I like being too short to wear without.
― kinder, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:12 (twelve years ago) link
They also wore PJ bottoms in the gym
lol that's nothing. I went to a stoner hippie school for a while and a lot of kids would go to class literally wearing what they'd gone to bed in. One of my professors actually had to tell a class that they needed to dress/wash themselves before coming to her class. NB - I never did this.
― ☆★☆彡彡 (ENBB), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:14 (twelve years ago) link
ha, I came v v close to the brink of going to the corner store in my PJ bottoms over Christmas to get hangover food. I had to have a long hard think about things after that.

if i can't go to the gym/store in my lounge pants, i don't even want to know what other rules i'm violating
― La Lechera, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:18 (twelve years ago) link
Oh, I think lounge pants are OK. Like, yoga pants? I've changed out of PJ bottoms into those when going out in public which really isn't that much of a diff but nobody needs to see my flannel PJs imo.
