phthalates

n/a, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Huh, Schoolyard is apparently a "Marquette bar" -- was Julia aware of this?

jaymc, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Phthalates are also frequently used in nail polish, fishing lures, adhesives, caulk, paint pigments, and sex toys made of so-called "jelly rubber." Some vendors of jelly rubber sex toys advise covering them in condoms when used internally, due to the possible health risks. The Dutch office of Greenpeace UK sought to encourage the European Union to ban sex toys that contained phthalates.

n/a, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Phthalates are controversial because high doses of many phthalates have shown hormonal activity in rodent studies. Studies on rodents involving large amounts of phthalates have shown damage to the liver, the kidneys, the lungs and the developing testes.

the developing testes

Look out, John!

There is also trivia at Ginger's Ale House on Thursdays.

jaymc, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Also the Globe Pub (a couple doors down from Silvie's) on Tuesday.

jaymc, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:30 (seventeen years ago) link

I should wear headphones more here, but I do kind of enjoy that clockwork response when I listen to Xiu Xiu. "What on Earth are you listening to?" It never fails.

kenan, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I've been to the Globe once. It was for a futbol match and it was infuckingsane.

Oh, what fools these mortals be.

kenan, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm getting bored with lunch options around here. I really want a samosa right now.

kenan, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:58 (seventeen years ago) link

I am eating so many girl scout cookies today, but mostly THIN MINTS OMG.

KitCat, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:02 (seventeen years ago) link

I HAVE NO GIRL SCOUT COOKIES. THIS IS A PROBLEM.

I have home-made mac, though, and it's pretty darn good.

Laurel, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:04 (seventeen years ago) link

ts: thin mints vs. samoas

You know what side I'm on.

kenan, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:05 (seventeen years ago) link

PEANUT BUTTER PATTIES

dan m, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:13 (seventeen years ago) link

It's all good.

I had a great lunch. Yay for TJ's: salad with avocado, blackberries, and lowfat ranch with a side of butternut apple soup (and tons of cookies).

KitCat, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Don't be silly, you can't "take" "sides" when there's only one right answer.

Laurel, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Why is it so hard to find a maintenance person to come out to our office to clean the boss's computer? Everyone says they either don't make house calls, only service their own machines, or just simply do not service 0KI printers... I went to the 0kidata site for a list of repair places, but everywhere I called only looks at the computers, not printers. Bastards.

KitCat, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:21 (seventeen years ago) link

to clean the boss's computer?
I meant printer. My brain is sugared up.

THOS IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO TELL YOU PPL

kenan, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:24 (seventeen years ago) link

And the answer is Thin Mints. Next question!

Laurel, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Peanut Butter Patties? I like those ones, too!!!!

dan m, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Speaking of chewing headphone cords and developing sexuality, looks like no new iPod for awhile 'cause spaying kittens is $$$.

Jordan, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Thin mints are most popular, and you get more in a box, but I would just feel like part of the herd if I picked them.

Although I am kinda dreaming now of eating some thin mints along with a bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream. Mint overload!

kenan, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:27 (seventeen years ago) link

(peanut butter patties OTM)

Jordan, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:27 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't think I've ever had Peanut Butter Patties. Where do you people get Girl Scout cookies? Are there Girl Scout moms in your office or something?

jaymc, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:34 (seventeen years ago) link

My officemates are all about the new lemonades. BO-RING. Gimme some chocolate or peanut butter or both.

KitCat, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:34 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, there are Girl Scout aunts mostly. Also, people in my office buy cookies from their friends kids and then bring them to the office to share (most notably the owner who gave us like 15 boxes to share).

KitCat, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:35 (seventeen years ago) link

I like Thin Mints but Samoas are better.

n/a, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:37 (seventeen years ago) link

There are ... NEW lemonades?

Actually, I'm sort of addicted to Bolthouse Farms Mango Lemonade.

jaymc, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:37 (seventeen years ago) link

I haven't had a Girl Scout cookie in a long time, but I still know what I like, and that is Peanut Butter Patties. Frozen. Goddamn.

dan m, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:37 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm trying to decide if I should go to Momphis to surprise her for her bday. (Yes, I typed it that way on purpose.) Well, yes, I definitely want to go. It just sucks, besides the money part, that I realized I'll only have a half day left after this trip and the honeymoon for Christmas/Thanksgiving/other out of town shows. NOOOO!

KitCat, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Thinking about going to Seattle in April for the EMP thing...

CRUMBELIEVABLE

kenan, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Remember CD singles? I had that song.

dan m, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:52 (seventeen years ago) link

I had the cassingle of that song.

kenan, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Sarah swears that the sample in the chorus of that song says "What the fuck waaaaaas that?"

n/a, Monday, 26 February 2007 20:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Check it:
UNBELIEVABLE
EMF

You burden me with your questions
You'd have me tell no lies
You're always asking what it's all about
Now listen to my replies
You say to me I don't talk enough
But when I do I'm a fool
These times I've spent, I've realized
I'm going to shoot through
And leave you

The things, you say
Your purple prose just gives you away
The things, you say
You're unbelievable
You burden me with your problems
By telling me more than mine
I'm always so concerned
Download MP3's
With the way you say,
You've always go to stop
To think of us being one
Is more than I ever know
But this time, I realize
I'm going to shoot through
And leave you

Seemingly lastless, don't mean
you can ask us
Pushing down the relative
Bringing out your higher self
Think of the fine times, pushing
down the better few, instead of
bringing out the clues, to what the
world and everything anger to, brace
yourself with the grace of ease,
I know this world ain't what it seems.
What the fuck was that,
its unbelievable

KitCat, Monday, 26 February 2007 20:11 (seventeen years ago) link

That 'seemingly lasteless...' part rules because it's all angsty and rap-like. GRR!
I LOVED that song.

This panel looks cool:

Erica Easley, “ReDressing History: Rock T-shirts and The (re)Creation of Rock Mythology”
Katherine Meizel, “Making the Song Your Own: Nostalgia, Authenticity, and the Cover in American Idol
Daphne Carr, “Selling Sad: How Hot Topic Made the Mall (Safe for the) Miserable”
Michaelangelo Matos, “A Matter of Trustafarians: Behind the Bob Marley Poster on the Dorm Room Wall”

From my 1991 mixtape:

For better or for worse, this was the pinnacle of the Madchester sound in the U.S., reaching #1 on a blend of dance beats and shouts, busy cowbell, and the "hard rock" preset on my Casio. Me, I liked imitating James Atkins' accent while replacing the mush-mouthed "your purple prose gives you away" with "your Hans and Franz impression blows me away." Did I mention I was twelve?
