I'm glad none of you were here to witness my way too enthusiastic response to that news. (It included calling out to my coworkers, who also responded enthusiastically.)

There's an interactive vanity plate selection page and guess what? DINGUS 6 is available. (Which means five other Illinoisans have license plates that say "DINGUS" on them.)

Are you serious? Ha. I actually am pretty excited too, but then I thought you might tease me about my excitement. But it's nice that we are both so equally extremely lame.

They are cleaning out the sewer trap in the mechanical room next to our office suite and I sincerely think I am about to puke everywhere. This is the foulest stench ever.

That happened at my work once and it was worse than the day the culinary dept made what has been dubbed "hospital soup."

what has been dubbed "hospital soup."
I don't think I want to know.
I may be able to do pub quiz next week.

Oh jon, I am sympathetic.
I've been following the comedy poll results thread for some weird reason and it's making me feel like I am an alien who developed a sense of humor on a planet with a completely different set of neurophysics than we have here.
― carl agatha, Thursday, 29 March 2012 20:13 (twelve years ago) link
tell me about it. there are some awful awful people on that thread.
― future worm food (n/a), Thursday, 29 March 2012 20:14 (twelve years ago) link
Also a lot of movies that aren't funny (and I don't mean Network).
― carl agatha, Thursday, 29 March 2012 20:15 (twelve years ago) link
i voted in it and thought it would be fun but there are just so many wrong opinions and aggro people on there. i should just put my top 5 or 10 here and then stop reading it. but i probably won't.
― future worm food (n/a), Thursday, 29 March 2012 20:16 (twelve years ago) link
man i haven't even clicked once on either the voting thread or the results thread because i knew it would annoy me to no end

I laughed till I died at Something With Regard To Mary.
Nick mentioned getting a drink and I'm lazy and sleepy and for about a full minute I was trying to figure out how to ask one of the partners if he minded if I drank beer at my desk. But then I was like WTF am I thinking?
But yeh, there are a couple shitballz on that thread.

i don't care about people voting for bad movies, i just hate the people who get all aggro about other people's choices

That's what I meant. Really I've only noticed one person dragging down the conversation - as usual - the rest are fairly good natured with the occasional overstated outrage or whatever.
xp !! Yes!! awesome dan!

Ha! That picture is aces, Dan. I haven't seen that old asshole in forever. I wonder if he died and finally found out whether homosexuals get to go to heaven? I hope his heaven is like Clark's in Clark at 3 am on a busy Saturday.
I'll be honest. I felt p aggro about some of the choices (and a couple of ppl endlessly defending terrible movies that have no defense beyond "I saw it when I was a kid and have happy nostalgia feelings for it") BUT I'm not posting I that thread bc I get no joy out of pooping on other ppl's opinions. To their faces anyway.
Also the mean posts are a bummer.
However, there are quite a few old films on the list so far that I am excited to see.
― carl agatha, Thursday, 29 March 2012 20:47 (twelve years ago) link
I can't think of anything I'd rather do less on ILX than read/post in a film thread tbh
― dan m, Thursday, 29 March 2012 20:50 (twelve years ago) link
Haha true but again - the final list has some pretty intriguing movies on it that I wouldn't think to see otherwise. But if it is like the action movie poll, there will be a separate results only thread.
I guess I'm just bored.

I got into the best-of-the-'00s film poll, but I don't have much interest in the genre-specific ones.

― carl agatha, Friday, 30 March 2012 12:29 (twelve years ago) link
Fela! was enjoyable. I will say that I'm not sure how well it worked as a piece of theatre. The conceit is that Fela is directly addressing the audience as though we were at his club in Lagos, Nigeria -- complete with expected call-and-response and dancing/singing along -- but the venue doesn't quite work for that. (Maybe this was taken into greater consideration on Broadway?) The narrative of his life also becomes a series of anecdotes without much dramatic force. But the music was obviously awesome, and there's some creative staging and set design, too.
― Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Friday, 30 March 2012 13:17 (twelve years ago) link
Thanks for the update. It sounds worth seeing just to hear the music in a setting like that.

So the owner of R's company bought everyone lottery tickets last week and someone who works there won $10k. That person is now bringing in a tattoo artist on Friday and everyone who works there can have a free tattoo. Very strange.

$10k each? How much cash does R get? Also what tattoo is she planning to get?
JESSE and anyone else really - if there is a horror movie nomination thread and I miss it (v likely) would you post a link here? TIA
