I wanna take you back...
Indie guys with trucker hats....

baaderonixx, Thursday, 15 January 2009 16:39 (fifteen years ago) link

trucker hats, giant white brick ipods, "skinny" jeans, the strokes. more innocent days. that's "early 2000s". what makes this the "late 2000s"?

burt_stanton, Thursday, 15 January 2009 16:42 (fifteen years ago) link

well, burt_stanton, i would imagine that the years just following 2000 are early, and those getting towards 2010 late.

thats awesome we should try to bump all hipster related threads today - today is hipster day on ilx

ice cr?m, Thursday, 15 January 2009 16:43 (fifteen years ago) link

I meant, what's stereotypical about now? Seems like everything's so fragmented, even compared to 2001. Weird.

burt_stanton, Thursday, 15 January 2009 16:43 (fifteen years ago) link

ahah lol @ hipster day
this should go global !

I guss wayfarer sunglasses, super duper skinny jeans, lumberjack/hunting shirts, people listening to dance music again that is related to dance music and not post-punk. hippy dippy crap.

burt_stanton, Thursday, 15 January 2009 16:45 (fifteen years ago) link

the skinny jeans thread started in 2006 : ilx was soooo behind the hype it hurts !

AleXTC, Thursday, 15 January 2009 16:46 (fifteen years ago) link

Skinny Jeans Mk. 1 in the early 2000s were like straight leg jeans ... shit was so baggy back then nobody knew the difference. Skinny jeans Mk. 2 got popular in what, 2004? I remember all my "scene" friends wearing beards and their sister's jeans back then ... when nobody even made "skinny jeans".

What do you think the new thing's gonna be? Back to baggy?

burt_stanton, Thursday, 15 January 2009 16:47 (fifteen years ago) link

really baffled by the strong anti-hipster sentiment i find on the internet/ ilx. if they're indeed that horrible, the offended should move to any number of mid-sized metropolitan areas where one can still enjoy most of the ammenities of the big cities (except decent public transit, of course! lol!), and you'd only have to contend with, like, 14 of these dudes.

EG I know some really outspoken anti-hipsters for whom clothes/fashion seems to be the big hatred point they tag to hipsters, who aren't actually into clothes/fashion themselves at all.

― Local Garda, Thursday, 15 January 2009 14:35 (2 hours ago)

I think both sides are actually into fashion, though - just different takes on it. Kaffiyehs/skinny jeans/wayfarers/v-necks/girls that dress like Rita from Arrested Development/headbands/whatever (I know I'm like 3 years behind) are totally trends, you can't really say they can't care about fashion. But one side kinda combs for weird unidentifiable stuff/jeans/whatever, and the other side really hates them for it.

throwbookatface (skygreenleopard), Thursday, 15 January 2009 17:45 (fifteen years ago) link

what abt people who say "im more into style than fashion" theyre the worst right

ice cr?m, Thursday, 15 January 2009 17:47 (fifteen years ago) link

i mean "timeless style" wtf is that even

ice cr?m, Thursday, 15 January 2009 17:47 (fifteen years ago) link

they are the worst. i just hate everybody instead, unless they wear white t-shirts and relaxed fit blue jeans

she is truly timeless, until she hits 18 and looks like an alien with a wig (hipster fashion of 2011?????)

Apparently this is "timeless style" for men:

lol my moms (x-posts) she was always on about trendy vs. 'classic style' when my sister was coming up. pretty sure she was just tryna keep sis from blowing her meager school clothes budget on bullshit, tho

not looking where you are going and being run down by something fatal is timeless yah

I can think of much more apt bands for the "internet" label though
