Definitely the worst game of the tournament
― Nessun Biscotto (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:36 (eleven years ago) link
terrible game really
― Ismael Klata, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:36 (eleven years ago) link
how can that not be a penalty?
― irrational angst that makes me innocuously thingy (darraghmac), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:36 (eleven years ago) link
france/england mb shaded it for slow motion edge of penalty area exhaustion
― ogmor, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:38 (eleven years ago) link
didn't see France-Sweden but it sounded pretty bad too
― Ismael Klata, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:40 (eleven years ago) link
yeah, even missed first goal, so 70ish minutes of abject tedium
― I'm not going leftfield on you... (hypehat), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:42 (eleven years ago) link
Great among a sewer of a game. All QFs have been so one-sided, hopefully tomorrow will be a classic.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:44 (eleven years ago) link
just j/k btw
Haha, just logged into Facebook and my old English teacher's posted a photo of him with Xabi Alonso from a few years ago, titled "Well done Xabi!" Two absolute legends.

Forget vuvuzelas there is surely no more irritating sound in football than Clive Tyldesley's pronunciation of "Clichy"

How about when he said: "And who were the last team to beat Spain? England!" in this weird, strangled voice?
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 24 June 2012 10:07 (eleven years ago) link
Well, there's Adrian Chiles for a start (xp)
― Too Busy Thinking About Mr. Abie (Tom D.), Sunday, 24 June 2012 10:17 (eleven years ago) link
LOL Keano, "Spain v. Germany, that's the final we all want to see"
― Too Busy Thinking About Mr. Abie (Tom D.), Sunday, 24 June 2012 10:18 (eleven years ago) link
Chiles was particularly awful last night. The perplexing thing is that it's essentially the same banter I used to like on motd2.
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 24 June 2012 10:31 (eleven years ago) link
His "Ooooh Roy Keane, you are scary" shtick is particurly irksome, a second after the final finishes Kean should tell him to stick his bollocks up his arse and walk out
― Too Busy Thinking About Mr. Abie (Tom D.), Sunday, 24 June 2012 10:37 (eleven years ago) link
before it starts, you mean?
― irrational angst that makes me innocuously thingy (darraghmac), Sunday, 24 June 2012 10:52 (eleven years ago) link
that France Spain game was like some kind of inter friendly, like neither team really seemed to care at all.
and yeah a definite penalty, why the commentator seemed to think otherwise is beyond me.
anyway, watching tonights game indoors so i might be able to finally watch a full game with no interuptions.
― PSOD (Ste), Sunday, 24 June 2012 10:56 (eleven years ago) link
I've never seen a team look so unbothered at going out at the QF stages as France did last night. Either applaud the fans who supported you this far or look like broken beaten individuals but don't just walk off.
It seems grossly unfair that players like Zlatan and Ronaldo get tarred with this "not a big game player" brush because I've genuinely never seen Ribery do anything of note in a big game. He must tear up the Bundesliga beause otherwise his reputation is largely unwarranted from what I can tell. It was funny failing to put his shirt on properly I suppose.
― Matt DC, Sunday, 24 June 2012 11:14 (eleven years ago) link
oh ribery can join zlatan for all i care.
― irrational angst that makes me innocuously thingy (darraghmac), Sunday, 24 June 2012 11:26 (eleven years ago) link
Ribery was awesome when France beat Brazil, in 2006 I think. He doesn't look right at all currently.
― ooooiiiioooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaoooooh un - bi - leevable! (LocalGarda), Sunday, 24 June 2012 11:27 (eleven years ago) link
Ribery was excellent in the CL SF 1st leg vs Real Madrid this year. Scored as well I think.
― pandemic, Sunday, 24 June 2012 13:01 (eleven years ago) link
yeah no england player has been as good at a tournament recently as ribery was in 2006
― dis civilization and its contents (nakhchivan), Sunday, 24 June 2012 13:06 (eleven years ago) link
even in the first game he looked the only threat france had but hansen was still 'this ribery kid showed nothing'
― dis civilization and its contents (nakhchivan), Sunday, 24 June 2012 13:08 (eleven years ago) link
what a great player he is in 2006 that time
― irrational angst that makes me innocuously thingy (darraghmac), Sunday, 24 June 2012 13:31 (eleven years ago) link
My memory of the Brazil vs France game is a bit hazy due to having spent most of the preceding afternoon in the pub and Zidane kinda stole the limelight afterwards. Ribery's done nothing in this tournament.
― Matt DC, Sunday, 24 June 2012 13:37 (eleven years ago) link
i don't mind chiles tbh. he's enthusiastic, which is more than can be said for lineker. itv have been way better than bbc.
― Chris, Sunday, 24 June 2012 14:09 (eleven years ago) link
i know that's not saying much but whatever
― Chris, Sunday, 24 June 2012 14:10 (eleven years ago) link
Not in commentary terms they haven't.
― Matt DC, Sunday, 24 June 2012 14:14 (eleven years ago) link
No, Peter Drury has single-handedly seen to that.
― Temporarily Famous In The Czech Republic (ShariVari), Sunday, 24 June 2012 14:15 (eleven years ago) link
well yeah ignoring the commentary cos they're all awful. but itv have had keane daring to offer an opinion, martinez with his shirts and eagerness to talk tactics, southgate's decent(he understands zonal marking ffs!), strachan's harmless, carragher looks like he gives a fuck. bbc? hansen, shearer, who else have they had in? dixon's not as interesting as i thought he was when he first started. and lineker.
― Chris, Sunday, 24 June 2012 14:24 (eleven years ago) link
argh those bbc shorts with hodgson and rooney looking into the camera and that shitty voiceover telling them "it's your time". lineker saying 'sick'. hansen. lawrenson. lineker. shearer. lineker.
― Chris, Sunday, 24 June 2012 14:27 (eleven years ago) link
Lineker > Chiles
― Nessun Biscotto (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 24 June 2012 14:34 (eleven years ago) link
of course the very best coverage has been eurosport's with rafa ;)

Bashar al-Assad > Chiles
Have yet to hear anyone tip Italy to win tonight, even the bookies are backing England, sweet!
― Too Busy Thinking About Mr. Abie (Tom D.), Sunday, 24 June 2012 14:53 (eleven years ago) link
Oh yeah, just this minute heard Rafa tipping England to win
Italy will win
― Nessun Biscotto (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 24 June 2012 14:57 (eleven years ago) link
You'll never get a job in the British media with that attitude
― Too Busy Thinking About Mr. Abie (Tom D.), Sunday, 24 June 2012 14:58 (eleven years ago) link
I think England will win, but it's no more than a hunch on a 50-50 - and I only get to the 50-50 by assuming England will be organised, have several levels they can step up to, and will be clinical, while Italy will be disorganised, fearful and a bit wasteful.
Goodness knows where all this expectation is coming from.
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 24 June 2012 15:08 (eleven years ago) link
what roy learnt from his time in italy: the players will be under presure and they like tactical fouls. like every other country then roy? such a bullshitter.
― Chris, Sunday, 24 June 2012 15:12 (eleven years ago) link
i dunno why i get pulled on my v fair hatred of the bluffer selfserving lying spaniard when chris gets to tackle woy for the most spurious of reasons long after his spited time at lfc ended

― irrational angst that makes me innocuously thingy (darraghmac), Sunday, 24 June 2012 15:38 (eleven years ago) link
England will go 1-0 up early on, probably through a setpiece or penalty, get battered for the best part of an hour and then lose. Feel this might be the occasion for John Terry to disgrace himself in an England shirt as well.
England under Roy haven't yet had to play an attacking side with both quality and commitment and I reckon Italy will beat them pretty comfortably.
― Matt DC, Sunday, 24 June 2012 15:40 (eleven years ago) link
Italy being a wee bit underrated by English pundits. Just a tad.
― Too Busy Thinking About Mr. Abie (Tom D.), Sunday, 24 June 2012 15:42 (eleven years ago) link
it's the way he thinks he's imparting pearls of wisdom every time he opens his mouth. he is doing a decent job indeed, not denying that. he's being hodgson. i'm even convinced england are gonna win the thing! but the love fest is making me sick.
― Chris, Sunday, 24 June 2012 16:17 (eleven years ago) link
think that quoted sentence fairly answers itself.
― ooooiiiioooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaoooooh un - bi - leevable! (LocalGarda), Sunday, 24 June 2012 16:18 (eleven years ago) link
i wonder if gary neville makes those sex noises on the bench when england score.
