Or if you want a dip for crudités, use a 2% or non-fat Greek yogurt infused with herbs or spices you like.

gonna freeze and puree bananas today, tbh.

am still skeptical tho. i think i am just a lot more ice cream sensitive than you all.

contenderizer, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 21:00 (eleven years ago) link

frankly i'm shocked that contenderizer would choose to pedantically point out that pureed frozen fruit could never taste exactly like ice cream

♆ (gr8080), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 21:02 (eleven years ago) link

there's a vegan ice cream place that does a really good facsimile of ice cream... unless the secret ingredient is ice cream.

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 21:04 (eleven years ago) link

and you will pay each of us $10 when you are proven wrong, contenderizer

pureed banana IS as good as icecream, u will see

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 21:05 (eleven years ago) link

coconut milk ice cream is vegan and v good

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 21:06 (eleven years ago) link

is it coconut milk that's the secret? (goes off to patent yoconanas)

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 21:07 (eleven years ago) link

ya prob

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 21:08 (eleven years ago) link

Vegan ice cream is pretty simple, because the creamy mouthfeel is just whipped & emulsified saturated fat. Coconut oil is about as saturated as dairy fat (and probably similarly unhealthy) and works just fine.

The Painter of Blight™ (Sanpaku), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 21:11 (eleven years ago) link

there are a few diff brands making coconut-milk based ice-cream-like frozen desserts now

despite having no dairy or soy they are just/almost as sugary and fatty as real ice cream so not really "healthy"

xpost

♆ (gr8080), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 21:15 (eleven years ago) link

i'm not all that sold on bananas being super-healthy either. like if you ate nothing but bananas i bet you'd get yonabetes.

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 21:19 (eleven years ago) link

most things you shouldnt eat nothing but

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 21:20 (eleven years ago) link

some friend of mine had a theory as to why the coconut fat was better than the dairy fat but w/e the sugar is the worst part even if its agave or whathaveyou

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 21:21 (eleven years ago) link

where is cutty when you need him

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 21:22 (eleven years ago) link

i heard carrots were like all sugar, too!

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 21:36 (eleven years ago) link

the sugar thats in fruits and vegetables is fine, stay away from refined sugar, is how its broken down to an extent

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 21:38 (eleven years ago) link

you need fiber w/ that sugar basically

♆ (gr8080), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 21:38 (eleven years ago) link

Coconut milk is one of the most fatty, caloric things on the planet. I don't know about coconut-based ice cream, but when I cook with coconut milk I always use the low-fat version and it still adds mucho calories to a meal. It's delicious though.

Virginia Plain, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:00 (eleven years ago) link

coconut milk is of the gods. is super rich & fatty though. a friend of mine who was crazy about it once wanted to eat just the "cream", the solids that separate out if the can sits for a while. was delicious, but we both felt kind of sick after just a bite.

contenderizer, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:40 (eleven years ago) link

Every time I eat something with coconut milk in it, I'm full for minimum 6 hours

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:42 (eleven years ago) link

My favourite snack these days is avocado with soy sauce on it

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:44 (eleven years ago) link

Tho tbh I don't really believe in snacks

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:44 (eleven years ago) link

what abt only snacks

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:45 (eleven years ago) link

It's a belief that sometimes causes me problems... blood-sugar-related anger problems... so I try to remember to put some almonds in my purse or something.
xp

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:47 (eleven years ago) link

lunch is usually what some might consider a snack. Like half an avocado and some cheese/meat. It's a meal! Calorically/nutritionally.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:48 (eleven years ago) link

Lunch is truly the most boring and utilitarian of meals imo so might as well make it a snack.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:49 (eleven years ago) link

really though, snacks and non-sustainable resource extraction are the downfall of western civilization

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:52 (eleven years ago) link

if only we could snack on greenhouse gasses

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:53 (eleven years ago) link

snacks are life

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:56 (eleven years ago) link

Snacks are for little kids and bored people on airplanes

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:58 (eleven years ago) link

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:59 (eleven years ago) link
