An old co-worker used to quote Martin Short all the time, but really obscure SCTV skits, so I didn't even realize it was all stolen from Short until months later. They were frequently hiliarious, tho.

Wow, this thread started in a really strange manner.

Anyway, I just fell down the Martin Short rabbit hole on youtube and found this one I'd never seen before.

A friend and I used to quote Irving Cohen incessantly--"the vaud-e-ville" and "Miss Sophie Tucker." I came across this guy a few months ago:

A shame:

http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2010/aug/23/martin-shorts-wife-dies/

Martin Short's wife, Nancy Dolman, has died. She was 58.

Short's manager, Marc Gurvitz, said Monday that Short's wife of 30 years had died but provided no cause of death or any additional details. Short, best known for his comedic roles on "Saturday Night Live" and in the "Father of the Bride" franchise, married Dolman in 1980 after the pair met while working together in a production of "Godspell."

They have three children: Katherine, 27, Oliver, 24, and Henry, 20.

this happened in 2010 btw. from vanity fair:

Short flatly described his wife’s death as “awful” and admitted that in the two years since her passing he has spent an inordinate amount of time on the road, taking sundry TV jobs and touring a one-man show—variously entitled Sunny von Bülow Unplugged, A Party with Marty, and If I’d Saved, I Wouldn’t Be Here—because “when you’re putting on your suit in Boston, Nancy wouldn’t have been there. So life is normal. It’s here that it’s not as normal.”

His book came out last week. Anyone read it yet?

No.

He's been getting great reviews for his smallish part in Inherent Vice btw.

A friend and I used to quote Irving Cohen incessantly

This is the character directly based on Irving Caesar, right? "A bouncy C!"

he was entertaining (as usual) on letterman.

he is one of those guys that nobody has anything bad to say about IIRC.

I dunno. (amateurist), Wednesday, 12 November 2014 17:44 (nine years ago) link

If it turns out anyone hates Martin Short, I'll be very saddened.

He's great on Mulaney. He's also the only tolerable thing on Mulaney. But it's worth watching just for him.

If you like Martin and can tolerate Chris Hardwick, this is worth listening to: http://www.nerdist.com/pepisode/nerdist-podcast-martin-short/

It just this second actually sank in that he inadvertently cannibalized a dude in Innerspace.

I don't know why I was thinking about Innerspace.
