I am in favor of the deficit. We're all Keynesians now. Specifically, we all keep track of the boys we fuck in a secret journal.

I think the day you make a cartoon sympathizing with "The Rich" is the day you have sold your soul to the devil.

bunch of x'sp: 5% Obamacare surcharge at Denny's? Yeah, I have no problem with that at all.

Metal Archies (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 18 November 2012 04:29 (eleven years ago) link

I like it too because it implies that women in general have taken the goth diet of speed + Denny's and subbed the dexadrine for beyaz. FOR FREE.

batshit really only in all the small, strange details that make me wonder what the conservative stereotype of washington might be - - - they hang up frames containing blank white canvases? they have frozen, manic toothy grins? swarm-of-bees wallpaper? everybody there has a different-sized head? what?

At least, I think that's what's going on there. It's not always easy to tell.

oh, and i checked in with Mallard Fillmore, but apparently Tinsley is dealing with the post-election blues by running an ongoing story about how the duck is having trouble getting his computer back from the Geek Squad....

not touching the abundance of Pillar of Defense cartoons because they just depress me too much but meanwhile, amazingly, the doubling-down on benghazi continues and continues:

not that batshit but really i think this theme encapsulates how distorted the Republican talking-point world-picture looks from where I'm sitting. WTF are they even talking about here? What is it that Republicans imagine they're oh-so-generously putting on the table?

Also have seen at least two cartoons mysterious casting Obama as Wimpy from the Popeye cartoons. So one of those has to be just an obvious shameless rip-off, right? How do you look yourself in the mirror doing that?

Doctor Casino, Friday, 30 November 2012 22:41 (eleven years ago) link

I choose to interpret the first one as the republican party desperately grasping for the real world, symbolized by Obama, yet failing, and tumbling down into the darkness. It's probably not meant that way.

Seriously squinting both my eyes and my brain to parse this out. That monolithic iMarket and its Hal 9000 eyeball look pretty sinister to me - but the other one has BUREAUCRACY and BIG GOVERNMENT written right on it. But why are we campaigning to "FREE MARLEY"? One too many inspirational Facebook posts?

there's been about a million "fiscal cliff with Greece at the bottom" strips, and more than a few Christmas-themed ones (Obama as Grinch looking down at us, etc) but leave it Asay to propose a world where Santa Claus is real, but his reindeer can't fly

I was worried by the Dark Knight Rises poster, dead cops and "hos," NWA cap, but what really should have alarmed me, in hindsight, was that little Billy was collecting the skulls of children on his nightstand.

Little Billy does like football and baseball, and has patriotic sheets, so there is hope for him.

nickn, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 18:35 (eleven years ago) link

prohibition kind of worked. people drank a truly grotesque amount pre-prohibition, most people abided by the law during it, and drank way less after, even now.

before and after broscience (goole), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 18:45 (eleven years ago) link

Billy should show his mom the Firetruck and Paramedic missions.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 18:45 (eleven years ago) link

Gotta say I do appreciate the effort put into things like accurately drawing the back of a computer monitor.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 18:46 (eleven years ago) link

goole, that's interesting - is there a book or anything that discusses this? I've always sort of bought the myth that it made no difference/impact beyond "turning ordinary people into criminals" and providing a foundation for organized crime, etc. But what you say makes a ton of sense.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 18:46 (eleven years ago) link

like, for example even in that cartoon, the bar only has one customer.

DC: haha i'm half-remembering the ken burns doc tbh

before and after broscience (goole), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 18:48 (eleven years ago) link

I know that a lot of business associations were in favor of prohibition because workers had a tendency to show up drunk, which is anecdotal support for the truly grotesque amount of drinking people did. Also the temperance movement was largely women because of the link between drinking and domestic violence, plus men being too drunk to work and financially support their families.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 19:02 (eleven years ago) link

(Learned that at a lecture on prohibition at the Chicago History Museum, so I can't link to anything.)

carl agatha, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 19:02 (eleven years ago) link

36,000 dead cops is pretty good. his mom should get the hell out of his room and let him play.
