poliopolice = modestmickey??????

This is a red herring. Fluoride is put into treated water, not dumped indiscriminately into an untreated water supply.

Does treatment of sewage and wastewater remove fluoride? Are you saying that all fluoride put into treated, drinkable water is either metabolized by people or removed from wastewater?

What I meant by the fact it's a huge body of water is that there is the tiniest, tiniest fraction of green food coloring in the water. Which is, to our knowledge, completely nontoxic.

How about you read up about fertilizers spread inefficiently on frozen fields, pesticides, poor use of natural watersheds as filtering agents due to the draining of wetlands, and the wholesale sewage and toxic waste that gets into the watershed, and then tackle a stupid cosmetic trick that uses the tiniest amount of food coloring later?

☠ ☃ ☠ (mh), Sunday, 17 March 2013 18:11 (eleven years ago) link

Dumping one human corpse into the lake, which the mob probably has done a zillion times, would put more pollutants in the lake than a few gallons of food coloring

☠ ☃ ☠ (mh), Sunday, 17 March 2013 18:12 (eleven years ago) link

we should use radioactive isotopes to trace groundwater, people can't see them because they don't look all green, so no worries

Mark 6, 49-50
49 But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:
50 For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.

Sorry, mh. You'll have to try again.

one year passes...

almost time to revisit this retarded annual ritual. Reading over this thread, I'm kind of floored at how many people are defending needlessly dumping dye into our precious water supply because "it's not the worst thing we could be doing" and how apparently it's ok because there's pollution occurring elsewhere in the world. Holy shit, no wonder this world is fucked.

No one is asking you to swim in the fluorescein. On shore you should be safe from nausea, vomiting, hives, acute hypotension, anaphylaxis and related anaphylactoid reaction, cardiac arrest and sudden death due to anaphylactic shock.

The tradition started when parade organizer Steve Bailey, head of a plumbers' union, noticed how a dye used to detect river pollution had stained a colleague's overalls a brilliant green

poliopolice is ok (although neither of those things is) and everyone should have a good time dyeing rivers amazing colors

it is, actually! it's usually really helpful in determining whether to pay attention to them or not. like people who use slurs, for instance. or like me, for instance, who can't make a coherent sentence for shit.

brimstead, Tuesday, 3 March 2015 05:23 (nine years ago) link

poliopolice's staunch dedication to this issue should inspire us. here we are with St. Patrick's day still weeks away, a moment when most of us remain blithely inattentive to the coming horrors that are peeping at us from just over the horizon of time.

but not poliopolice, he is johnny on the spot, ready once again to take up the cudgels and batter away at his sworn foe for as long as it takes to beat it into the earth for another year. I have no doubt that we may look forward to many similar revivals of this lonely crusade, heedless of the odds, intent only upon the victory he alone believes will be his reward. it kind of makes my heart swell to contemplate it.

didn't go north of 14th Street in NYC, but i don't get the green Mardi Gras beads shit; poor repurposing.

Did see a guy in a green t shirt pissing next to a real-estate office basement in the West Village, so the holiday was official.
