Has he ever played against type? "All the Real Girls" seems like the most "against type" Danny McBride performance and that was like his first movie.

not yet. doesn't really bother me tbh. Feel like Observe & Report role should've been his too.

Yeah I'm fine with him just doing his thing. I can't really imagine him being good at much else. Even at the beginning of the last season of Eastbound where he was the mild-mannered family man, it didn't really work.

he was originally going to be the cop iirc but then something came up (tropic thunder i guess) and he wasn't able to do a part that big

He's in the Franco version of As I Lay Dying which I imagine might be slightly outside his comfort zone. Not that I'll ever watch it

He kind of plays the straight man in Clear History

i think he pats clooney on the back and says something like 'family is more important than money man' to george clooney in up in the air.

weird reading all the nitpicky 'this episode isn't as good as the last one but the one after is 10% better' stuff above. just watched the whole thing and it all worked as a piece. midway through s1 hit amazing heights and pretty much stayed there til the end. couple of blips with the bizarro will ferrel/geisha thing and ali g's dismal performance in the last ep but 99% flat-out brilliance.

a pox on anyone who dissed the music too, greatest use ever.

my qu though, how much of danny's performance was improvised? some of it seemed so natural and off-the-cuff it *had* to be. and not in that wearying CYE way where it ends up with two people shouting at each other for way-too-long while trying to hide their smirks.

outtakes seem to indicate quite a lot of the dialogue was improvised

ah great, i'll check out those outtakes. i've only got a bunch from s1 though, are there any from the other seasons?

I don't know if I ever posted about this on ILX but I befriended a temp at my old job who once told me (TOTALLY UNSOLICITED that her husband liked to fuck her from behind while wearing a Jason mask and positioned in front of a mirror so they could both watch).

I caught a part of the movie where all the apatow dudes are in franco's house during Armageddon recently and was reminded of just how much I love McBride. I mean, sure, he sort of always plays the same dude (give or take a couple variations) but he plays that dude so well that I can't help but love him.

he is the best. he even shows up in that bizarro as i lay dying movie franco made (which is not good and also not half as bad as people probably imagined it) and is completely convincing as a good ol' boy of that time period
