word. and i think dave did a good job of coming off legitimately pissed + dignified, rather than a vulgar grab for attention/controversy.
― will, Thursday, 25 September 2008 16:22 (fifteen years ago) link
I love that you meant this as some sort of slam.
Eric, not necessarily. There are things about Obama I admire, and I voted for him in the primary to stop the Pantsuited Thing, but as his FISA vote/Likud bows/silence on civil liberties/pick of MBNA Joe etc show, O is still a politician and they all tend to be lower than whaleshit. I hope he wins the election and I hope (foolishly) progressives never stop pressing him to do the right things in office.
The last compelling TV I saw was Sandra Berhard daubing between her legs with a sponge and sending Dave bolting from his desk.

silence on any issue during election season is not a sign of disinterest

lol, that's exactly why Dems expected Clinton to suddenly become a liberal in his second term.

thx, that makes me feel like shit.
Eric: ditto. That's why only a power-crazy man, or a dick like McCain, would want the job.

is morbs talking about the same obama who said "I think there is a strain within the pro-Israel community that says unless you adopt a unwavering pro-Likud approach to Israel that you’re anti-Israel and that can’t be the measure of our friendship with Israel. If we cannot have an honest dialogue about how do we achieve these goals, then we’re not going to make progress." to a group of over 100 jewish leaders earlier this year??

getting olbermann to fill mccain's guest spot was a nice little fuck-you. (also olbermann is more genial and less annoying on letterman than on his own show.)
anyway, i thought the contempt was bracing. you don't often see people on national tv exuding such complete i-just-dont-give-a-fuckness.

more McCain zings:
David Letterman drilled McCain at length for a second night in a row for canceling on Wednesday, saying at the top of his monologue: “Paris Hilton is on the program tonight -- unless she needs to rush to Washington to fix the economy. … Paris Hilton was actually McCain's first choice for running mate … I was thinking about this: John, here's how it works. You don't come to see me, you don't come to see me? Well, we might not see you on Inauguration Day. That's how it works. You see?”
