I'll take a UPenn Shake Shake and raise my GWU Whole Foods. Dear god in heaven. I started working at the GW hospital over the summer and had No Idea what it would mean to have like a whole university arrive in the 'hood overnight. Nothing like a whole university arriving overnight in oh I dunno Bethlehem, PA
xposts see Stevie I luv you tons but Stephen is your Trashy Mexican go-to 94/7. I'm kinda like Legit Good Mexican or else default to good burger any day of the week. But man, does that man love him some srsly trashy Mexican.

― Gay Fire Beautiful Dong (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 5 September 2014 02:13 (nine years ago) link
Dunno if it's 'worth the trip' but def worth stopping by if you're in the area
There used to be one in the city right by where I played Little League
RIP the only Nifty Fifty's in the city

can someone who has had the shakes tell me what is so magnificent abt them and which is the best one to get? Like caramel shake sounds v good too, maybe after I've already had the coffee shake once

I had a jury summons this Tuesday in downtown Brooklyn, and I had Shake Shack for lunch, which I ate outdoors, on a bench, by myself, wearing a suit, sweating, and quickly too.
― chinavision!, Friday, 5 September 2014 02:16 (nine years ago) link
The coffee shake, malted
― 龜, Friday, 5 September 2014 02:16 (nine years ago) link
I mean I ate it quickly. I didn't sweat any faster than normal.
Looks like there is a nifty fifty's in northeast Philly now but one of my rules is never go to the Neast

I don't usually fuck with ice cream because apparently I hate america or something, but if I have to mess with it it's gonna be a coffee milkshake or a chocolate soda with peppermint ice cream. Both rather rare. I have yet to try a Shake Shack Shake but I'm gonna soon. Coffee, for sure. Malted sounds like a unusual but worthy plan, thanking u dayo
― mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Friday, 5 September 2014 02:20 (nine years ago) link
People who get a plain shake when a malted is on offer are disgusting savages imo
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Friday, 5 September 2014 02:25 (nine years ago) link
Well tbh I got it malted because I was using my friend's coupon and by malting it I got maximum value
I'm gonna try the burger again over the weekend tbh
― 龜, Friday, 5 September 2014 02:26 (nine years ago) link
As for Shake Shack, I challopically deny it is fundamentally different from e.g. Five Guys
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Friday, 5 September 2014 02:26 (nine years ago) link
omg its soo much better and different than five guys
― lag∞n, Friday, 5 September 2014 02:27 (nine years ago) link
Agree
― 龜, Friday, 5 September 2014 02:29 (nine years ago) link
five guys is good but its basically just a big sloppy burger with tons of toppings, shake shack is all abt the flavor of the meat and the meat grease and how it seeps into the bun, much more primordial burger tbqh
― lag∞n, Friday, 5 September 2014 02:30 (nine years ago) link
Had Shake Shack on UWS of Manhattan in 2009, it was plenty good but I certainly wouldn't have said it stood out as, for lack of a better word, tasting like meat! In fact I would have described it exactly as "a big sloppy burger with tons of toppings." But that was a long time ago and they may well have perfected the formula between then and now!
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Friday, 5 September 2014 02:42 (nine years ago) link
if I malt my milkshake it will taste like Whoppers and that is SO FUCKING GROSS imo
― Gay Fire Beautiful Dong (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 5 September 2014 02:45 (nine years ago) link
shake shack is the real deal, they make an outstanding burger. the calorie count on a shackburger isnt completely outrageous; just dont get fries or, if you must, split them with a friend.
five guys isn't worth it on any level imo.
― call all destroyer, Friday, 5 September 2014 02:50 (nine years ago) link
in a million years it wouldn't occur to me to get a malted coffee shake but totally want to try it
― hook up with a townie! (rip van wanko), Friday, 5 September 2014 02:53 (nine years ago) link
Treesh do you want to get the malted coffee one and give me a sip?
― Gay Fire Beautiful Dong (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 5 September 2014 03:52 (nine years ago) link
sure, that sounds amazing honestly.
― Treeship, Friday, 5 September 2014 04:17 (nine years ago) link
lol i was only kidding, you can get whatever you want. My ex used to call me a #foodDom because I would always like tell other people what they were going to order.

One recently opened up at King of Prussia, much to my delight.

UK shake shack is such a disappointment - just terrible in comparison to the manhattan original :-(
luckily five guys opened about the same week in London so i just gorged myself on their fries and cried myself to sleep a bit to get over it
― jamiesummerz, Friday, 5 September 2014 13:53 (nine years ago) link
I can't wait for the Chicago Shake Shack to open up. Got to try it when I was in Connecticut last summer and the burgers are so much better than Five Guys.
― Bus Sex Teen Busted After Queef Beef (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 5 September 2014 15:20 (nine years ago) link
there will be a shake shack opening here soon. five guys sucks
― am0n, Friday, 5 September 2014 15:23 (nine years ago) link
The biggest problem with Five Guys is the all the goddamn SHOUTING the employees do. "ONE IN THE DOOR", "GOT IT", "TWO PATTIES", "GOT IT", "BYE YOU GUYS" (the last one shouted from the opposite corner of the restaurant as the door. It's fucking obnoxious.

loud talking no bs efficient counter service employees are either great or terrible, there's a fine line.

I had a small thing of ice cream from the london one once. It was underwhelming and overpriced. But I'll prb go back to try a shake at some point if they're recommended. It's difficult to find good milkshakes in the uk.
― salsa shark, Friday, 5 September 2014 17:45 (nine years ago) link
I really want to have shake shack someday. So bored w/in and out burger.

Having revisited shake shack and 5 guys this weekend can confirm shake shack clearly superior
― 龜, Sunday, 7 September 2014 17:12 (nine years ago) link
Toasted butter bun a thing of beauty, although the working class essence of a Five guys double bacon cheeseburger with 'all the toppings' is something I can appreciate if never eat
So clear which chain got their start in DC and which got their start in NY

man alive OTMThe longer each location is open, the more oily and greasy and disgusting the interior becomes, the effect of which is just compounded by the hoi pilloi clamoring for napkins and soda cups and annoyed at the wait for their food
― calstars, Tuesday, 28 May 2019 23:49 (five years ago) link
I was a skeptic from the beginning as this thread shows, but always basically liked this place -- I'm with man alive, though, the last couple of times I've had their burger, it was just... not that great. Not bad! But not great. In particular, this from man alive
it was the kind of business that needed excitement and scarcity to thrive, like it was this "special treat" thing that people would go out of their way to stand in line for. Once it's everywhere, it loses that excitement
feels right to me, I enjoyed it more when they didn't have it in my local mall and it was an "I can have this because I'm traveling" treat.
Or maybe the food has actually gotten worse, which is not an unreasonable thing to expect for a rapidly expanding chain.
The shakes are still good.

I love Shake Shack and In'n'Out, but can't even imagine going to mobbed hamburger restaurants at this moment
― Dan S, Monday, 7 December 2020 03:04 (three years ago) link
I mean, you order on the app, you pay on advance with your credit card, you're in there picking up the stuff for like 2 minutes, there's an indoor mask mandate where I live. If it were actually mobbed I might feel different but there were like four people in there.
