I don't know if "greatest runway ever" works, because it was definitely carried by Kini and Sean. If there were only one winner, I'd have given it to Kini, I think the reason being that his model didn't wear a bra, but also because of the flashier construction. Still, Sean's definitely earned the wow.
I liked Fade's (leaving aside the construction), but there was nothing avant-garde about it. With Veg on that tacky vinyl offense of Amanda's. I think Sandhya is getting the Patricia treatment (maybe she'll call Nina a Republican?): the producers are trolling us with the weird craft-worker (kraftwerker!) who's getting positioned as the undeserving and insensitive finalist.

On one hand, FINALLY, Sandhya is gone.
OTOH, OUCH. Maybe it was the editing but when she announced that she was eliminated and like, two designers out of eight got up to hug her, that was so harsh. Was she that bad of a person?

oh sandhya that pink. it made me sadpepto bismol ahoy
i like her a lot. i think where she tripped herself up was her continual expectation that everyone was going to throw a parade over her designs every time. her confidence was so dependent on everyone around her, and when that wasn't given back to her it just started to seem more like delusional stubborness. idk
but i think it's also endemic of this kind of show. soft hearts are just skewers for the stiletto heel of fashion :)

OMG VegemiteGrrl, you watch PR too?You really are my twin.
I just started watching it again after boycotting it when it moved to Lifetime. Nobody knocks me out although I miss Fade's little Sprockets persona.
Season 2 will always always be the best and they will never ever top it.

Sandhya's wasn't the only designer with a onesie (ahem Sean "jumpsuit"), but gods, the peplums (pepla?) and the pink and the snaps in the back??
I personally didn't like her, but I do think that she was ostracized partly for cultural reasons. I also wonder how much of Tim's "I don't get you at all" comment dug at her.
Bothered more than a bit about some of the girls getting super-glammed up hair -- a real uncomfortable child pageant vibe.

amanda & alexander had more problems with tailoring & construction than anything their models brought to the table
amanda's proportions were terriblealexander's was just generally poorly made all over

If this was one of the early seasons, she would have been the clear winner, or Kini
i am starting to deeply resent what this show has become, and what the judges are holding up as good design now
zac seems the lone holdout for finishing & construction, and even he can be wishy washy week to week

So very, very OTM.
Those first couple of seasons were so fabulous. Santino! Jeffrey Sebelia! My pretend boyfriend Daniel Vosovic!
It's really pretty crappy now, I remember why I haven't watched it since they moved from Bravo. UGH that they think that they have to pander to the Lifetime demographic. I WANT TO SEE SPECTACULAR CREATIONS, not crappy outfits that I could make myself.
I do really like Emily and Kini, I thought Fade was pretty cool, and Sean has come up with a few good things. And Sandhya's stuff was at least interesting and thoughtful until she made that onesie.
After Season Three, Tim Gunn and Angela Keslar did a promo tour of Macy's and they displayed a bunch of the winning designs from that season. Remember that striped green dress with zippers that Jeffrey made? OMG, you should have seen that thing up close. It was a work of art. It was SO masterfully constructed. It's a shame what they're doing now.

I always think of Jay's knitwear collection from S1, there's no way we'd see anything like that now
― difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 28 September 2014 02:56 (nine years ago) link
LOL @ the designers who had trouble finding muses on the street. Stop asking people with blurry faces you idjits! (I wonder if they could've dragged Tim along, or promised the muses the chance to meet him, I'm sure loads of fangirls would've jumped at the opportunity.)
There were a couple of other lulzy moments that now completely escape me.
I appreciated Nina's disclaimer at the beginning of the judging -- I always feel so terrible when non-models are up there wearing things that are torn to shreds and/or having their taste levels ridiculed. Same thing with Tim's decision to give Char another 10 minutes to fix the zipper: when you bring in non-models, really, they're doing the show a favor and should be treated with respect.
Anyway, is it any surprise that the designer with the skinniest, prettiest model won it?
I've watched a zillion reality shows and they all seem to follow a similar trajectory: if they last long enough, their aims start drifting away from their representative industries and develop their own insular cultures, and the judging begins to cater to the show's values, not the industry's.

Korina's model said she was from Louisiana but I swear she has the German accent that Heidi's managed to lose.
― cichleee suite (Leee), Sunday, 28 September 2014 04:28 (nine years ago) link
She DID have a German accent! She said she lives in Germany now.
Lol at how much bitching they milked out of Char's extra ten minutes. They could have just stated that they all wanted an extra ten minutes. But then they wouldn't have anything to bitch about.
Season One Jay's knitwear collection was so so fabulous.
Alexander should have ignored Tim and went with that crazy assed combination of prints, it was bizarre but he should have just went with it and defended the shit out of it to Posen. Sean almost got the auf last week for taking Tim's advice and dropping the fringe. Char went with her gut, ignored Tim, and was in the top.

And according to the preview for next week, we've got more Korina drama coming because those bastards at Bunim/Murray apparently decides to pair current designers with eliminated ones, Char's being Korina, of course
Anyway, I almost fell off my couch w/:
Korina: You shouldn't be here! You got eliminated!Char: Don't point your finger at me! I'm still here!K: This isn't about you, okay?

god she is the WORST
if you want to show what a good designer you are maybe show how well you can use an hour by being efficient & not do a 16 piece pattern jfc
i wish emily had bailed on her in disgust
― difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 3 October 2014 16:54 (nine years ago) link
Here I was convinced that she was getting the redemption arc! lol whoops. TBH I liked her and Emily's mini-collection, but then I guess the producers wanted to inject MOAR DRAMA and got what they wanted.
LOVED THIS. I pray that it was real because it's just too rich.
The soccer ball dress was overpraised IMO -- the triangular bits that were glued(?) on cheapened the look. I liked the Frank top on Amanda's, though.

Heavens, I mean this is beyond producer trolling (Tim Gunn save PLUS extra 10 minutes that one time PLUS going back to make another dress) I mean come onnnn they really do NOT want to send Char home and it's at the point where it's really kind of hysterically funny how ridiculous and obvious they're being about it and also how hard they're really digging into Korina.
As much as I'm delighted w/ the outcome bcz it made such great television (and also PR has not-all-that-much to do w/ rewarding ppl for making the best clothes), does Korina not kind of have a point that it's sort of insane for Char to still be here when her shit really is pretty inferior to Korina's?
― rad het chilly poppers (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 5 October 2014 17:18 (nine years ago) link
She has a point that's relevant to a competition where contestants advance on merits rather than dramatic potential. Of course, that's not what Project Runway is.

100% of my problem with Korina is/was her level of trashtalking/attitude measured against her output
She never had nearly the level of talent she said she had, she was nowhere near Kini or Sean for repeated wins. Every other week she wrote checks her mouth could not cash, and we're still waiting to see the ~amazing~ designer she's supposed to be
If you are going to come in with your ego on blast you better be pulling blowing judges minds every time a you're up there or else stow the verbal touchdown celebrations & smacktalk until you *actually* win
I mean she's bringing Jeffrey-levels shade & she's barely up to the standard of christing Daniel Franco
― difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 5 October 2014 20:21 (nine years ago) link
Ok now that Char is at Fashion Week, the judges can stop pretending thet love her stuff, right?
― cichleee suite (Leee), Saturday, 11 October 2014 21:22 (nine years ago) link
the last 9 designers or something go to fashion week anyway, so the whole thing seems kind of pointless (ie: Korina showed at Fashion Week. And everyone shows anonymously).
