Cat and Girl is about 100x better than that other shit. Comments about Dom's ex otm

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Sunday, 17 June 2007 01:51 (seventeen years ago) link

besides daybyday I think the other answer to this is http://www.little-gamers.com/

I mean it's all well and good to bitch about penny arcade, but their competition is so horribly lame it beggars the imagination to conceive of a person so lame as to put this shit up on the internet on a regular basis

guy who does PVP is clearly talented and works hard at it but his material is pretty standard soap-opera-for-nerd-alerts (cf sluggy freelance, scarygoround, etc) which gets old as hell after a while IMO- which is another reason I favor stuff like PA or even achewood, where continuity is treated as optional from week to week etc

there are seriously hundreds of webcomics that could probably be objectively rated worse than the ones pointed out on this thread so far

I've read far, far too many of them

TOMBOT, Sunday, 17 June 2007 02:07 (seventeen years ago) link

should read "competition is so horrible" nix the adverbial suffix and redundant use of lame

TOMBOT, Sunday, 17 June 2007 02:08 (seventeen years ago) link

The only way I can make any sense of this one is if it's a They Might Be Giants reference

OMG it is too, how did I not realise. Still sucks though.

Trayce, Sunday, 17 June 2007 02:14 (seventeen years ago) link

river wolf otm, I tried to read qc for a couple of months and it's just 'aren't my characters adorable omg'. dude designs pretty good t-shirts tho.

wtf, the questionable content t-shirts fully reflect dude's lack of drawing ability and unfortunate aesthetic sense

A B C, Sunday, 17 June 2007 02:53 (seventeen years ago) link

haha, man, i'm discussing webcomics

A B C, Sunday, 17 June 2007 02:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Tombot otm about penny arcade mostly... at least they don't have pretentions of being anything other than a cheetofingered circle jerk. Achewood has its moments of greatness.

GOTCHA xpost

Dimension 5ive, Sunday, 17 June 2007 03:11 (seventeen years ago) link

I just tore my own head and shat down my neck, reading those.

Dimension 5ive, Sunday, 17 June 2007 03:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Wow thats TERRIBLE. And I like some of the XKCD strips!

Trayce, Sunday, 17 June 2007 03:14 (seventeen years ago) link

"lol i use linux i am cool" wtf that joke wasnt funny in 1995.

Trayce, Sunday, 17 June 2007 03:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Some of them are ok. A lot of the "nerdy in jokes" are really pretty surface level references meant to make Joe Dorito Breath feel better.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Sunday, 17 June 2007 03:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Although maybe I should try my hand at this as my cute programmer/indie rocker ex-girlfriend from 2001 seems to get moist for XKCD etc

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Sunday, 17 June 2007 03:17 (seventeen years ago) link

I like his whimsy ones that arent nerdy, like his one about a whole part of his brain being devoted to building the greatest treehouse ever. I liked that.

Trayce, Sunday, 17 June 2007 03:19 (seventeen years ago) link

I think my webcomic tastes are more of a pokey the penguin / tim @ kfc.edu / jerkcity flavor though.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Sunday, 17 June 2007 03:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Jerkcity is awesome.

Trayce, Sunday, 17 June 2007 03:24 (seventeen years ago) link

I avoided Achewood for a long time because I hate the artwork, but the writing is winning me over.

Rock Hardy, Sunday, 17 June 2007 03:30 (seventeen years ago) link

I kind of like that one.

This is crazy. Cat and Girl is fantastic. Part of XKCD's charm is that it's more like a blog with random thoughts than a "webcomic" like most of the rest, so even though some of the ones you posted are cringy, it's all good in the end.

Nothing beats Pokey of course.

GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD!!! HELLO SEXY WORLD!!!

Casuistry, Sunday, 17 June 2007 05:20 (seventeen years ago) link

fuck you, corny indie web comic fuck

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Sunday, 17 June 2007 05:50 (seventeen years ago) link

I hadn't noticed that the time+date on that xkcd hasn't happened. Are his avid readers meant to turn up and propose to him or something?

Anyway, uh, as a corny indie webcomic-reading fuck with a Cat and Girl t-shirt (and I don't read SARC but I used to read Mitch Clem's old comic Nothing Nice To Say, probably more because I like the way he draws characters than anything else, but it had its moments), I have to wonder if there are any webcomics you don't hate, Dom?

Really though, you want to see worse comics, go to keenspace or drunkduck and click on one at random. And if you think you've found the worst webcomic ever, just go through the archives until you see the words "guest strip", and there you'll have a link to an even worse one.

(I am really tempted to link to a friend of a friend's apparent attempts to recreate Love Is... for the Warcraft/livejournal generation, with every other strip being "hiii I was in the pub and Lisa asked me to draw her so here is some unrecognisable Photoshop-daubing with the word Lisa underneath and here is Lisa's gerbil and Lisa likes dolphins so here is a picture of a dolphin lols" "my boyfriend made me a cup of tea he is really nice and i like tea!!" "this strip was late because i am busy lol work sucks huh here is a cartoon of a pile of books and me looking sad!!! :( :(", but I could see them getting upset enough to go through the whole of ILX to find out who I am, so you'll just have to imagine that delight. Also they've improved a bit and taken the really lousy stuff down, but I'm sure there are even worse comics out there which haven't reached that stage yet.)

Dinosaur Story, Cyanide and Happiness, most Natalie Dee.

Dom Passantino, Sunday, 17 June 2007 11:36 (seventeen years ago) link

Can you explain the appeal of Natalie Dee?

robertwolf8080, Sunday, 17 June 2007 13:56 (seventeen years ago) link

when did it get popular to draw as if you were an eight-year-old, and can we please get to the next stage of what's popular please

Let's see what Natalie Dee is 'taking on' today. Baby Penguin? Making a noise?!? GENIUS

lolol cyanide and happiness

Glad to hear it. It's perhaps my favourite strip both online and off. The blogs were pretty good as well (when I had time to keep up with them), it's amazing that the characters are so 'credible' and have such distinctive voices.
