I am in Glasgow this weekend. It is going to be exiting, for me. And maybe for you too if you chose to come out and play. So, this weekend's feature is 'Lara in Glasgow: Arriving Friday, Leaving Monday and Open to Suggestion'.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:08 (eighteen years ago) link

Watch Ally wiggle his arse and sing some songs!

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:09 (eighteen years ago) link

Lara, did your phone die? Or did the phone company just cancel your account when the call reached €100?

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:13 (eighteen years ago) link

it'll be nice to meet you, lara

: )

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 21:39 (eighteen years ago) link

oh and haha well done to rangers!!

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 21:39 (eighteen years ago) link

(not that the call was long, I just mean international mobile to mobile)

Rangers are funny.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 21:49 (eighteen years ago) link

I agree; a bunch of weirdoes

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 21:59 (eighteen years ago) link

YES.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 22:08 (eighteen years ago) link

Lara, one of your Friendster photos is shocking.

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 22:38 (eighteen years ago) link

fucken football fannies

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 22:49 (eighteen years ago) link

Ally, I had a selection of comedy Rangers-related text messages all ready to send you tonight. Sadly, I never got to use any of them.

Right now, on VH1 Classic, they are playing the video for Wide Boy by Nik Kershaw. This is, right now, the greatest thing in the world.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 00:03 (eighteen years ago) link

Yesterday, I tried the following things in Glasgow -

Coffee in Tinderbox on Byres Road.
Exhibition at the CCA
Burger & Ginger Beer in Mono
The Necropolis at Sunset
Ku Klux Klan Exhibition at St. Mungo's Museum.
Awesome cider at Babbity Bowsers.

hmmm (hmmm), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 10:42 (eighteen years ago) link

not bad!

what did you make of the KKK exhibition?

heads up: free cinema tonight

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 11:00 (eighteen years ago) link

... and of the dali?

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 11:04 (eighteen years ago) link

Generally, I really hate Dali. I find it all really contrived. This one, I quite liked as it wasn't quite as silly as his other stuff.

The KKK exhibition was very interesting from a documentary/political point of view. The photos themselves were pretty boring.

hmmm (hmmm), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 11:10 (eighteen years ago) link

The Necropolis at Sunset

good work. i love it up there.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 11:53 (eighteen years ago) link

It's even better in the snow.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 12:06 (eighteen years ago) link

Most things are.

hmmm (hmmm), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 12:10 (eighteen years ago) link

I think "contrived" is the wrong word, for once

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 12:25 (eighteen years ago) link

the beach

x-post

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 12:31 (eighteen years ago) link

I burn really easily in the sun, find sunbathing boring, don't like being too hot and don't like sand in between my toes. Hence, I would say that the beach is better in the snow.

I think "contrived" is the wrong word, for once

I find his work to be too cerebrally weird. It's all too well thought through and lacking in viscerality for my taste. His excessive skill, 'look at how odd I am' persona and ideas frequently get in the way of him doing anything that's actually worth more than a freakshow.

The christ painting works because he is working in a manner oppositie to his usual one. Rather than distorting things to create a surreal and freakish effect, he is correcting the use of such effects in historical paintings of the crucifiction. In removing the blood, nails and horror from the image of christ on the cross, he asserts his view of christ's role as a force for good, rather than an object of pity. His distortion is a return to reality, rather than an escape from it.

hmmm (hmmm), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:02 (eighteen years ago) link

And my point is that the christ painting works because, although heavily considered, all of it's distortions and effects are there for a purpose rather than being there for their own sake.

hmmm (hmmm), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:08 (eighteen years ago) link

It is one heck of a striking angle. Even better than Holbein's, I think.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:12 (eighteen years ago) link

A great bunch of stuff for a day, of which the Necropolis shades it. Good job.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:53 (eighteen years ago) link

All done in time for tea too.

hmmm (hmmm), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 14:09 (eighteen years ago) link

for christ's sake

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 14:10 (eighteen years ago) link

http://www.talyandruss.com/graphics/cds/cd-jc.jpg!

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:11 (eighteen years ago) link

I find that a little contrived.

hmmm (hmmm), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:40 (eighteen years ago) link

not at all like his other stuff

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:40 (eighteen years ago) link

He is cycling in a direction opposite to his usual one.

hmmm (hmmm), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:48 (eighteen years ago) link

In the cycle path of righteousness is life, and in the pathway thereof there is no death unless some twat in a lorry doesn't see you.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 17:40 (eighteen years ago) link

I like his big yellow helmet.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 21:38 (eighteen years ago) link

I haven't forgiven you Jesus.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 22:12 (eighteen years ago) link

Shut it, Cozen, or I'll make you sick again using the power of snuggling.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 22:18 (eighteen years ago) link

: )

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 8 December 2005 13:29 (eighteen years ago) link

Did you really snuggle, like Homer & Marge?

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 8 December 2005 13:33 (eighteen years ago) link

I was really sick

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 8 December 2005 13:39 (eighteen years ago) link

I once puked after being hugged too vigorously. Poor Cozen.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:24 (eighteen years ago) link

Yo, dudes, fancy a pint on the 18th? It's my birthday and I plan to spend the part of it after sbout 4pm in the 500 Club at the bottom of Byres Road, drinking cheap cocktails and playing board games and eating nice food. I shall be doing this anyway regardless of ILX presence, but please feel free to come and join me.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 8 December 2005 20:58 (eighteen years ago) link

as long as they do pint-sized cocktails made of beer and, er, beer, i'm there.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 8 December 2005 23:38 (eighteen years ago) link

If any of you Glasgovites are at a loose end tonight, Dead City Radio are appearing in Stereo with some other undoubtedly quite good bands.

scotstvo (scotstvo), Friday, 9 December 2005 17:36 (eighteen years ago) link

Aw, I have the lurgy or would love to come out. Next time, I promise!

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 9 December 2005 17:37 (eighteen years ago) link

i'm working late, then going home to mentally and physically prepare for ALEX v SIMON v KEITH: THE BEER WAR in edinburgh tomorrow.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 9 December 2005 18:51 (eighteen years ago) link

Poor Ailsa. The other bands were quite good too, but we were throttled. Must drink less. A giggle nonetheless.

I might pop past the Winchester tomorrow to see Dot to Dot.
